PM Skerrit calls for national effort in preparing for 2022 Hurricane Season

As the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season approaches, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has called on the general public to be part of a national effort to assist in preparations for this season.

“It is the responsibility of every single citizen to assist in preparation for this Hurricane season,” he said. “We all have to play our part, we all have to look at our surroundings to ensure that there are no hazards and if there are hazards we seek to eliminate them,”

He continued, “It has to be a national effort…”

According to the Prime Minister, his government is preparing with the notion that the country can be hit at any time, during and after the Hurricane season.

“We have been preparing, there have been several meetings of the various committees,” he stated.

He believes that it is important for everyone to play their part in national preparation.

“We are in a much better place than we were last year and the year before,” he stated.

Skerrit indicated that his government will meet with the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) next week to ensure that all the bases are covered.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has precdicted an above-normal 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

I listened to the debate in Parliament of Dominica on a bill put forward by the Dr Dr for the borrowing of money for Disaster and Covid mitigation and it was most disconcerting to listen to the DLP “klep.to.ma.ni.acs throwing mapwey in their usual vulgar style as compared to the Opposition members who said they supported the bill but were asking for transparency and accountability. It is so sad and unacceptable for a recalcitrant Government when asked to account for the peoples money spent on their behalf can reply “look around” only in Dominica which we were told by PM skerrit, is not a real country; and we can all “go to hell!!”

Yours truly will be preparing to flee Dominica when he realizes a major hurricane is going to strike like he did before Maria hit. He was in Florida monitoring all the activity making believe he was on the island during the hurricane.

A proactive and astute leader would have had the necessary meetings, plans, resources and all his ducks in a row by this time of the commencement of the hurricane season.

Let’s hope that the predictions of the NOAA will not hold true and Dominica will be spared of any natural hurricane this season.

The country is already being battered on a daily basis by Hurricane Roosevelt. Dominicans are well entitled to a break from all man-made and natural disasters.

Skerrit, are you going to play your part or are you going to abandon the island again when the going gets tough? Or maybe the palace you occupy was constructed with a private hurricane shelter. I wouldn’t be surprised. BTW when are you moving our. I think you overstayed already?

PM Skerritt, why dont you come together with the merchants and come up with a solid plan to pass some legislation in Parliament speaking to the preparations for the annual hurricane season?

One good initiative would be to declare the first weekend in June every year, Friday to Sunday a VAT FREE WEEKEND on ALL food supplies AND hurricane supplies including Trois Piton water? (keep the local supplier happy) Building materials can get a 10% off, because we know some persons would use that time to buy building materials for houses they just start to build and not to repair/strengthen what they have already lol.
This would give consumers more spending power, to purchase larger quantities of food and water to stock up.
Just a free idea; your Economists sitting down in Ministry can fine-tune it. Lol
