IHG TO TAKE OVER FROM KEMPINSKI’S MANAGEMENT AND OPERATING TEAM

February 9, 2023 PORTSMOUTH, DOMINICA – Following a periodic review Range Developments announces the change of the Kempinski Group as manager and operator of Cabrits Resort & Spa in Dominica to InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (IHG). The changeover will take place at the end of March 2023by agreement with both operators.

No Dominican jobs at the resort will be affected by the switch, while all staff will be given training sessions by InterContinental to bring them up to speed with the company’s values and culture. IHG® Hotels & Resorts is one of the world’s leading hotel companies, with 208 InterContinental properties employing about 325,000 people in 100 different countries. InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts was the world’s first international luxury travel hotel brand, pioneering new international destinations for decades. Each of its hotels is a destination in its own right with a distinctive style and ambience, from historic buildings to city landmarks and immersive resorts in every corner of the globe.

“We are delighted to welcome InterContinental Hotels & Resorts to Dominica, which has established an unparalleled legacy in the luxury hospitality space,” said Mohammed Asaria, Managing Director and Board Member of Range Developments. “InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa will offer experiences that suit play, adventure and relaxation, and we look forward to extending our relationship with IHG to bring this stunning property to life. We acknowledge and appreciate the dedicated hard work and professionalism of all the Kempinski team who have contributed to the success of Cabrits Resort & Spa since its opening four years ago.”

The newly branded InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa will mark the brand’s third Caribbean resort hotel. Located along Douglas Bay on the island’s northwest side, the revitalized 151-room InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa will offer a unique and luxurious stay experience to travellers seeking to unwind, seclude and discover the island’s natural beauty. The resort’s four outdoor pools, expansive spa, fitness center and beach access support a relaxing tropical getaway, while its 8,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space and onsite business center accommodate corporate events and blended travel. Additionally, four on-property restaurants and beach and swim-up pool bars provide refreshments for guests following a day exploring nearby Cabrits National Park or Dominica’s various hot springs, waterfalls and canyons.

Beyond revamping InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa, Range Developments is also developing two IHG-branded resorts in Grenada – Six Senses La Sagesse (projected to open in Q4 2023) and InterContinental Resort La Sagesse (projected to open in Q4 2025).

What now? I hear Kempinski hired Rudolph Karam from Beirut as their new marketing and sales director only in August last year. He worked previously also for Intercontinental. Will they let him stay or let him go. Good luck man.

Isn’t it true that this place is on life support since it’s opening and a recipient of additional passports to keep it ticking over.

It’s the Chicken and Egg question all over again. Without reliable access to air travel, how do you fill these rooms? American Airlines’ subsidiary showed us that they can land an airplane from Miami to Dominica with an aircraft that suits our current runway, however the demand for our tourism product doesn’t exist. It requires filling 60 out of 76 seats or 80% seat capacity to maintain the route and we can’t even get that done. This administration has been a failure and a total disaster! There’s nothing for tourist to do after 6:00pm. When humans travel away on vacation, they want to be engaged!

How do you all expect a 1* star country to offer the services of a 5*star resort? Not possible but keep on trying! Bring the country and society standards up!
You attract who and what you are! Just look at the riff-raff from Guadeloupe, Haiti, Antigua and neighboring Caribbean that we keep attracting during our carnivals and festivals, and they are always involved in crime; drugs, people trafficking, kidnapping, murder!

A nice way of announcing that the Kempinski brand has left Dominica!

And can we get figures to back up this statement: “The hotel has transformed the economy of Portsmouth and surrounding areas, providing jobs to hundreds of people, and bringing thousands of tourists every year to this beautiful country.”

What has been the annual guest count at this hotel and has it shown year on year increase or decrease? Are its guests more Dominicans than foreigners? How do they arrive in Dominica? What has been the annual turnover and profit or loss of Kempinski over the years? How many staff are employed there? Apart from being located in Portsmouth, what has been its financial contribution to the Portsmouth economy? Give us hard facts and numbers! I thank you.

The most frequent guest at this place is Austrie, Skerrit and a few members of the cabal that reside in the northern part of the island.

This is going to be the next white elephant in the Portsmouth area. The place is already on life support. Another example of how well the CM manages Dominicas state resources. How long can we afford to have this incompetence coupled with corruption?

So, this is what happens when an idiot of a country utilizes national funds; money giving it to foreign rogues in the premise of building hotels on an island; in addition to giving such people an additional twenty million as pocket change for keeps weather the hotel operation fails or succeed.
If someone gave me as in this case free land, accommodated with a building or how many buildings, swimming pool; and say operate it as a hotel, take all the profits as long as you are on my island, I could care less if one or a hundred guess registered, or if the crap remain empty year-round!
This is the case in Dominica, with twenty million as a take free, this will continue to happen, the take over management is going to request a twenty million up front too; and as the former management leave the (the idiot me) holding the bag!
Only in Dominica where idiots are heads of anything that can happen.
Simply to say there we have hotels you give and pay billions to people for nothing?

Surprising really. The Kempinski brand is normally rated more prestigious than Intercontinental. This change means that Kempinski, who opened the hotel in Oct. 2019, will have run this establishment for only 3 1/2 years. Perhaps the numbers did not add up and they decided to terminate their contract early. Who knows, but something is awry here because this is not normal and would indicate that that the operating results have been less than satisfactory and did not meet Kempinski’s expectations. Let’s wait and see and pray this change brings a better future for what was billed a top class 5- star establishment.

Of course the numbers did not stack up. From the start this place generated nothing but loses. Recently the government of Dominica (R. Skerrit) had to allocate additional passport to them in order to keep afloat. Only in Dominica!!!

Dahman, yes and no. All these places are not Dominica my friend and these hotels not under the control of Skerrit. Unfortunately that is the difference. At least three general managers at Kempinski at the Cabrits since it opened. Why? I hear Skerrit walking around the place as if he owns it.

My question is are you referring to the hotel named intercontinental or are you referring to the IHG group which are two different entities. There is a hotel named intercontinental, but there is also 17 hotel brands that make up the IHG group of which intercontinental is a part. So which one is it that’s taking over Kempinski. Also intercontinental is the worlds largest hotel chain so take that into consideration also.

So basically it was sold over to InterContinental. The Kempinski brand which has been in operation since 1897(worldwide) is leaving Dominica, because there is no demand to fill the rooms and generate enough income to be viable, yet multiple hotels and resorts are being built in Dominica every year! Interestingly enough they said no Dominican jobs have been affected, I know for a fact there are multiple non-Dominicans working in Kempinski…

Derp you know that the building does not belong to Kempinski or Intercontinental. It is just managed by them on behalf of the owners. Would you be surprised to find out if one of the owners may have a link to Hamas who are paymasters for Hezbollah. Now Kempinski who have their office in Geneva, Switzerland would not be too happy about that, would they.
