Community Support Needed to Help 140 Rescue Animals Leave Dominica for New Homes

St. Nicholas Animal Rescue (SNAR) is urgently calling on volunteers, truck owners, and drivers across Dominica to help make a historic Freedom Flight possible next weekend.

On June 13–14, 140 rescued dogs and cats will begin their journey from Dominica to rescue partners overseas, where they will have the opportunity to find loving forever homes. While the aircraft has been secured and international rescue partners are ready to receive the
animals, local community support is now essential to ensure the mission succeeds.

SNAR is seeking volunteers to help wash and prepare animals for travel, assemble and label crates, organize documentation, and assist with loading and transportation operations. Truck owners and drivers are especially needed to transport animals and equipment from St.
Nicholas University in Castle Bruce to Douglas-Charles Airport.

Any time you can offer to help is greatly received!

“This is not just a SNAR project,” said Dr. Golnaz Naderkhani, President of SNAR. “It is a community project. Every volunteer, every truck driver, every donor, and every supporter plays a part in helping these animals reach safety and find loving homes.”

For many of the 140 animals, this flight represents the end of years of hardship and the beginning of a new life. Many arrived at SNAR after suffering neglect, abandonment, starvation, abuse, or cruelty.

Their journey has mirrored the challenges faced by the shelter itself. Over the past eight years, SNAR has survived repeated relocations, eviction notices, and most recently a devastating landslide that destroyed the sanctuary's only access road and threatened the future
of the rescue operation.

Despite these challenges, SNAR continues to care for hundreds of animals every day. The Freedom Flight comes at a critical time as the Atlantic hurricane season begins, easing pressure on shelter resources by giving 140 animals the opportunity for a brighter future, and for the remaining animals at the Kalinago Rescue to continue in SNAR’s care.

SNAR extends its deepest gratitude to every rescue partner that stepped forward to provide placement opportunities for these animals during their time of greatest need.

Special recognition goes to Badass Animal Rescue, whose leadership and funding made this extraordinary mission possible, and to Wings of Rescue, which is generously providing the aircraft that will transport the animals to safety and new beginnings.

The Dominica Football Association has already pledged its support for the Freedom Flight.

SNAR now invites other sports teams, community groups, businesses, service organizations, and individuals across Dominica to join this island-wide effort.
