Stardom Calypso Tent to present ‘Mas Camp Meets Stardom’ show tonight

Reigning Calypso Monarch Jaydee (Stardom), Virtual Calypso Monarch Bobb (Mas Camp)

Executive member of Stardom Calypso Tent, Phael Lander made the announcement while addressing the weekly Carnival press conference held at the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) office on Wednesday.

“We have Mas Camp meets Stardom [tonight],” he said. “Usually we have somewhat of a separation of events but tonight we believe in collaboration and only in calypso you can see the love and togetherness that is calypso.”

He continued, “When I think about Carnival I think of Calypso, when I think of Calypso I think about Stardom.”

According to Lander, as Stardom celebrates its 50th Anniversary it will present the Clash of the Tents featuring calypsonians from both Mas Camp as well as Stardom Calypso Tent.

Performances are expected to come from  King Jaydee, Royette, King Bobb, Mighty D, Triumph, Shanice, King Dice, Joy, Luchious, Bingo, King Observer, Mask Eruption, Lady Esse, Explosion, King Daddy Chess, Checko, Trilla G, Tasha P, Trendsetter, Mighty Omee, De Healer and Soul Puss,

“Tenty-two calypsonians and it’s going to be a rumble of love and celebration in all things calypso, because calypso is back,” Lander stated.

He went on to state that there will also be some guest performances of calypsonians who did not make it to the eliminations, however are still part of the calypso family .

They are Intruder and Mystrie.  Calypsonian Sye will be singing the 2023 Calypso anthem, song of the late King Solo ‘Mas in the Cemetery.’

The show will take place from 8:30pm at Petite Miami formerly known as Anchorage Hotel.

Tickets cost $30.

Meanwhile, Lander revealed that on the 28th of January Stardom Calypso Tent will present ‘Sponsors Night’ giving sponsors of the event an opportunity to sing calypso.

“Calypso Stardom, just because we love you is giving you two installments this week and on Saturday the 28th of January we have sponsors night,” Lander revealed. “Another special evening where our sponsors will be joining the calypsonians on stage.”

He added, “Some sponsors are going to come on stage and will be singing their favourite calypsos, coming with their uniforms…”
