UPDATE: Road fatality and drowning among holiday incidents being investigated by police

Nicole Humphrey

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force is now investigating a road fatality in the north of the island and a drowning in the south.

According to information received from the police,  Nicole Humphrey, 49, of Dublanc who resided in  Savanne Paille , succumbed to injuries sustained in a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) in an area known as Tibay in the north.

At the time of the incident, which occured on June 6, 2022,  police say Humphrey was driving a black CRV registration number PZ478  in a northern direction with family members when her vehicle collided with Nissan Frontier registration number PZ541 owned and driven Shane Carriere of Borne, who was travelling in a southerly direction.

The accident which is said to have taken place at about 11:20 a.m. caused serious injuries to occupants of both vehicles who all had to be transported to the Reginald Fitzgerald Armour Hospital at Portsmouth. There Humphrey was examined and pronounced dead at 1:00 p.m.

The other occupants were later transferred to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH). Police say both vehicles were extensively damaged and their investigation into the matter continues.

Over the weekend, several reports of motor vehicle accidents were reported island-wide.

A collision under the Canefield cliff has also left one man nursing serious injuries at the DCFH.

Meanwhile, a body fished out of the sea at Newtown has been identified as Michael Charles of Roseau.

Sergeant Fixton Henderson of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reported that on June 6, 2022,  about 2:45 p.m., the body of 56 year-old Michael Charles of Cork Street, Roseau, was found submerged in the sea, about 20 feet from the shore near the jetty at the Newtown fisheries area.

“The unresponsive body was removed from the water by a fire officer of the Dominica, Fire and Ambulance Services. There were no apparent marks of violence on the body,” Sergeant Henderson stated.

He further noted that personnel from the Lynhurst Funeral Home were summoned to the scene and transported the body to the DCFH where it was examined and pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m. by a medical doctor.

“The body is being kept at the Lynhurst Funeral Home mortuary awaiting a post mortem. The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased Michael Charles,” Henderson said. “Investigations continue into this matter.”

During public holidays people are too excessive in their behaviour. Drink too much, party too hard, drive too fast. There should be a great presence of police on the streets checking for drunk drivers, speeding over the stipulated speed limits, etc.

Sincerest condolences to the families of the dearly departed. May the good Lord bring some respite to your aching souls.

May the injured have a speedy and full recovery.

“Over the weekend, several reports of motor vehicle accidents have been reported island-wide.“
What is very disturbing in Dominica these days is the lawlessness and carelessness we see all over on island, where the government has turned the country into a sewo country and the police is doing nothing to ensure road users are safely using the roads. So people drive drunk, charged, fast and careless knowing there is no police to stop them and police them more charged and more drunk knowing their job is to help Skerrit spread his corruption and illegal stuff knowing no one will hold them responsible . In fact on Saturday evening I was going to Vielle case and passed through Paix Bouche and what I saw less than a mile from the house of the parlrep. The road is very narrow and a deep precipice below. But somehow the police allowed a family to host a fete with the Cowboy nan named Reviere and cars are parked on the road itself and a very narrow path right above the precipice for cars

Based on what I encountered I must say we are lucky we didn’t have more fatalities this past weekend because that narrow road above that deep precipice could easily collapse with a car or bus load of passengers or just a little error on the part of the driver. In fact not to long we had an accident in this same area, when a bus entered in the house of an elderly man and luckily the man was in a different room that day. How could the police give permission for such activity in such a dangerous area? If they didn’t give permission then how could the police allow such an event to take place? I was told that the area is served by the Vielle case police and the Sergeant is from Paix Bouche and was there . If the opposition tried to have a walk around that area they would be surrounded with heavily armed military police presence. It’s just nonsense man

To the one reading this , if you haven’t yet made this decision to serve Jesus, now is the accepted time. You may never see tmr. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost! Repent! Before it is too late.

@Turn to Christ …folks don’t want to hear anything about the end times, the name “Jesus” is like a curse to them. It’s very chaotic and dangerous out there and all signs points to the second coming of our Lord. But the world don’t believe it. They keep blaming Roosevelt Skeritt for the fulfillment of Bible Prophesy, meanwhile, Skeritt doesn’t know what he’s doing because he was appointed (as was pharaoh) to strike and whip, and cause to suffer; those who are vain in their imagination. They have been blaming Skeritt for over 20 years with no relief in sight. The scriptures say, “light has come into the world; but man love darkness rather than light.” Let the call and cry out to Skeritt…Skeritt is as Baal he cannot hear. Russia is in Syria 🇸🇾 since after tRUMP ordered the withdrawal of the American troops. This is Biblical accurate predictions from the mouth of the prophet Ezekiel. Russia is at the doorstep of Israel. God is drawing them for the battle of Armageddon. Last battle
