The University of the West Indies Press (UWI Press) announced that “Reimaginative Leadership: Concepts and Applications” by Canute S. Thompson was named a finalist in the Leadership category at the Goody Business Book Awards. The awards, which were announced in November 2025, recognize outstanding publications that emphasize social impact across various fields including Business, Health, Leadership, and Technology.
UWI shared in a press release that each year, the awards honor over 100 authors, with approximately 50 winners and 50 finalists, highlighting significant contributions within their respective domains. The university also said that the recognition of Thompson’s work underscores its innovative quality and relevance.
“Reimaginative Leadership” challenges conventional paradigms of organizational leadership by proposing a reconceptualization suited to the needs of the 21st century, particularly within the Caribbean context. According to the release, the author advocates for a leadership model rooted in care, courage, trust, and accountability. The book introduces nine foundational concepts aimed at rehumanizing the relationship between leaders and employees, offering practical guidance for navigating the complexities of modern organizations.
Thompson expressed his appreciation for the recognition, stating, “I am exceedingly grateful and proud of yet another award-winning publication. This is my third publication through the UWI Press, and all three have won awards. This achievement is a testament to the Press's rigorous peer-review system and its ability to spot a manuscript with potential. In addition to my gratitude to UWI Press for this very fruitful partnership, I also thank the peer reviewers (who operated blindly) as well as supportive colleagues and friends, some of whom reviewed the manuscripts.”
UWI Press Director Christine Randle commented on the achievement, saying, “This finalist recognition reflects the exceptional quality and thought leadership embodied in this book. It's a well-deserved honour, and we are
thrilled to celebrate this achievement.”
“As a UWI Press-published work, Reimaginative Leadership is among a distinguished catalogue of Caribbean scholarship. UWI Press, a not-for-profit scholarly publisher founded in 1992, is well known for elevating Caribbean voices and perspectives across academic disciplines,” concluded the statement.
