UPDATE: Vehicle damaged by falling Christmas decoration on Bayfront

A vehicle was damaged on Thursday morning on the Bayfront in Roseau when a section set up for Christmas decoration fell on it.

The incident occurred at the entrance of “Santa Mall” around 8:15 am due to heavy winds in the capital.

The vehicle was in the process of turning when a heavy gust of wind came along, dislodging the contraption and sending it crashing with a loud bang.

No one was injured but an elderly woman in the vehicle was so badly shaken that she had to be assisted out of it.

The incident quickly drew a large crowd, including visitors from a cruise ship, who looked on with curiosity and bewilderment. Many snapped photos.

Many people on the scene expressed disgust, saying the whole thing should have been taken down already.

“Christmas pass, what that thing doing still doing there,” one onlooker said.

Another person said, “that thing should have been more secure. Suppose it was people who were passing. This is nonsense.”

“Thank God no one was hurt,” another said. “But this should have been gone by now.”

The different organs and departments of this government are practically impotent. If, in this case, the physical planning department were active and empowered, Melissa and her rogues would not be granted permission to construct that monstrosity.

Dominica, under Roosevelt and his foot soldiers, is a lawless place. No law, no constitution can prohibit this hoodlum from having his way.

Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state becomes lawless or corrupt. Rise up people en masse and take back your country from this self-centered, mean-spirited, venomous viper.

Did this vehicle have the right to be there, in the first place? Roseau belongs to the “First Family.” Period. All you beating all you self as though anything grand is going to come out of this vehicle which was trespassing. I’ll bet my 2 cents that the owner of this vehicle is a Poto Labor. Dominicans, all you too like to jump and carry on for nothing. I threw a few crumbs of bread in the river and mullets were all over it in a shake. Just a few crumbs of bread. “He” is the law, he rules in every affairs in de land even to the religious bodies. All you raised a monster and don’t know how to get rid of it? Hello Mullets!!!

On a serious note! Of all the places to erect such paraphernalia, why the Bayfront? It boggles my mind why the Bayfront is so casually put out of commission for so long when there are more suitable locations like a section of the Botanical Gardens, the Pottersville/Newtown/Bath Estate playing fields or the Lindo Park! Vendors would not have been prevented from making a living for this long and vehicle drivers would not have been so inconvenienced in finding valuable parking space. In addition, individuals and families would have been able to spend quality time in a location that has undoubtedly become the most popular ‘hang-out’ spot in the city! In future, more earnest consideration NEEDS to be given to finding an alternative location so that as Dominicans we do not continue to be short-changed and taken for granted by those in authority.

You need to understand that this is not only a little money spinner but also a vanity project for Gucci. Nobody dares to speak up against her for fear of being reprimanded by the guy in charge. Those to remind me of another infamous pair: Bonny and Clyde. But Dominicans don’t care!

The Bay front is open to the elements. This was an accident waiting to happen. This could have been so much worst. Such is the island’s custom, act first and think later. Health and safety rules, guidelines or even laws simply do not exist. If they do, they are not enforced, known or followed. The damage to the vehicle will be settled long before the hurt of feelings and trauma to the occupants. Such is The Commonwealth of Dominica that is now known for its normalization of abuse to the vulnerable, abuse and murder of women in all sectors of its society, degradation of women in the lyrics of its music and through all this those whose job it is to protect and serve are largely silent. #where is Kernisha?

The decorations should be down by now. Traditon dictates that the dec’s go up the fourth Sunday before Christmas ( Advent ) and must come down by the latest the sixth of January, which is the three King’s date. I am amazed that parking spaces ( which there is a lack of ) are being used for this folly when there is an empty stadium that could utilised for this.

Unless the people revolt against this present administration, they will continue to suffer. What used to be “Lovely Dominica” is no more due to this corrupt regime. When the people continue to support Skerrit with his hand outs, they will never find their way and move forward. He continues to squeeze the juice out of the people amd so they have become victims and are intimidated. My people, you MUST rise against injustice or you will continue to suffer. This administration does not care about you. They are concerned about greed and power. It is sad when a leader does not have any vision for the people. He has used his vicious psychology against the people for so long that they believe that is normal. Awake my people, out of your slumber before it is too late.

@out of south city, why is it that people like you cannot wait to call for revolt against the Government, claiming the suffering of the people, as the reason for you all’s senselessness. What are the people suffering from?

If every time you all call for a revolt and the people revolt, Dominica would have turned into a war-zone, of which the World would want nothing to do with. Is that what you all want for your own country?

I am not saying that it was not carelessness to keep this kind of decoration standing at a time when it so windy, especially that the reason for its installation was many days gone. But no one was injured, no one died–God is Love!

However one revolution, as you are calling for, could end with people losing their lives; how many, no one knows–is that you want?

It is good that the majority of Dominicans are peaceful people; so you all can call for revolution until your tongues drop off, they are not paying attention.

Can somebody PLEASE let me know who is/are the persons(s) responsible for the ShantyTown-ization & Ghettorization of the Bayfront?

It is an absolute disgrace what these people have done to the Bayfront. Roseau already has limited parking space yet some dunce person(s) decided the best place to put huts & further reduce the parking space is the Bayfront. Now the tax paying public is struggling to make use of the Bayfront as a proper relaxation & parking spot as per its original design & intent.

The collapsed contraption and its contents had no relance to what used to be the Dominican concept of Christmas. It was a commercial import.

Perhaps it was God’s wrath that blew it down.

I’m happy that no one was seriously injured. This poorly assembled structure, the brainchild of Melissa, could have easily fallen on a passerby – a child, elderly lady, anyone.

What I have observed with the Roosevelt admin blitz and glitter is given priority over safety of the people. This specific incident gives credence to the aforementioned assertion. Safety and security of the people should always be the prime concern of any government.

By the way, does Melissa do anything other than decorate the Bay Front for show on specific occasions? Is she capable of representing the country home or abroad in any meaty discussion?

When there are competent people in government manmade problems of this nature hardly ever occurs.

From the pictures shown, the structure remained intact after falling, which tend to indicate it was well made. Also, the welded points did not break or separate, neither did the tubing twist or break. The likely problem is that the structure was improperly anchored to withstand the force of the wind on the Bay Front, thus the failure.

“But this should have been gone by now.”

I truly agree with this observation. This is January 05, the so-called “Christmas celebration” or “Festive Season” is gone.

January is a time to start moving onwards again, what should be the reason for those displays, which may have been so costly, while many Dominicans may have been in need during the Holidays?

But thanks to God that no one was injured. And the owner of that car will have no difficulty getting compensated for his or her damaged vehicle.

Bwa-Banday, I have said it over and over, that I am not a person of politics, like you, otherwise you would be reading a comment from me every day on DNO.

Most of the time I don’t even read the News article, if I sense that it is about politics. But if I see that it is a social issue that need steadfast attention, I will say something.

So is that news article above, regardless of whoever is responsible, it was a case of carelessness and so I shared my views.

I have no god in this World, but I have a God, The Almighty Father of Heaven and Earth in Christ Jesus. I will continue to live by His Will, as I have done so for as long as I know myself. He taught me how to express His Will, through my thoughts and by my speaking and writing.

Dominica and the majority of her people have never been out of hope It is the minority like you, who is calling for hopeless, an so it will be for you all, regardless of who belongs in authority. Too bad!

God is giving us all the “little” signs that it’s time “we the people” take control and get rid of the RESET Cabal. It is sad and no one wants or advocates for violence but when you walk around and hear people openly talking about kidnapping officials and or their immediate family until the government resigns it is very very frightening indeed.
