The 12th annual Jazz n’ Creole event has recorded a 59 percent increase in attendance this year.
This was according to Tourism Minister Denise Charles.
The event took place at the Cabrits National Park in Portsmouth on Sunday, April 30.
“We are delighted to report the successful conclusion of the 12th edition of Dominica’s Jazz n’ Creole,” she said. “The festival saw an impressive 55% increase in revenue and a 59% boost in attendance from 2022, attracting visitors from the region, the French West Indies, the United States, and Dominican nationals abroad.”
According to Charles, the heightened economic activity estimated at triple the government investment benefited local businesses, designers, makeup artists, accommodation providers, restaurant owners, tour guides, and local artists, to name a few
Charles extended her gratitude to all who played their part in making the event a success.
“As we applaud the patrons, partners, and stakeholders of Jazz n Creole for their support, we eagerly anticipate the upcoming World Creole Music Festival,” she stated.
Charles describes events like these as crucial economic drivers for Dominica, “generating employment opportunities…”
She encourages everyone to continue supporting these events as they contribute significantly to Dominica’s growth and development.
Charles called on all to unite, in order to position Dominica as a leading ecotourism destination, creating “extraordinary experiences that gather local recognition and admiration.”
FYI they weren’t playing any jazz when that picture was taken. Signal Band was playing that annoying song about “man”. The Jazz fest has become a sh.. show. and has lost all its value and purpose. just another jam but here people get to PLAY sophisticated.
I would want to support what Roger has written btl. I am a jazz fan and understand that not that many Watians are … but this need to put Bouyon into everything the the DFC is involved in is somewhat annoying especially at Jazz and Creole. Its like thay are scared that we cannot appreciate something a little sophisticated. That last session at the even put a downer on the event for me… destroyed the whole ‘cool’ vibe of the afternoon Which is what is so enjoyable about the event. I don’t mind if a band want to include 1 bouyon tune in their set but that band must be able to play the majority of their set in a genre that is recognizably jazzy
Good news, then. And the 59% figure seems perfectly reasonable, especially as the pandemic recedes.
Are you the new spokesperson for the government of Dominica? I just hope they pay you well and don’t expect you to publish this twisted propaganda free of charge.
Please. I have a long history of calling things as I see them, and this is no different.
Sure Steve Forester, say it as it is, that lots don’t like the truth because they are losers and idiots.
What makes you believe the 59% is perfectly reasonable. Do you have info to back your assumption up? Info that others don’t have?
What is your statement based on, oh clever one? Just thought it’s a nice looking number, because that’s exactly what Mamselle thought.
I sure have not seen the impact of this 59% increase in our economy. In fact Possie even looking more brokes since the event. But 59% increase is not far fetched and hard to understand since we all know a lot of people got free tickets and even Dominicans residing abroad were given free travel tickets and jazz tickets to attend
If you Batty bou know the 59% increase is false then give Dominicans the true figure. That is all lying people do,they say things they cannot prove.GOSSIPERS.
Exactly, that’s what the lying CM and minister do every single day of the week. But worse, Numb Heads like you swallow and even defend it. Now go away and sit on the naughty step for at least 2 hours.
How many tickets did the government purchase and distributed free of charge to their voters. Nobody tell me this is not true. So far 12 people told me who I knew could not afford to buy a ticket. So, Mamselle Charles what say you now?
Here we go again. 59% increase in what? This is how this government and its agencies operate, giving us either figures that are untrue or don’t mean anything at all. That bags the question – why do they do that on an ongoing basis? Why?
Batibou, I am sure you have the right figure please give it to us, and that will proof Pm.Skerrit, government is lying to the Dominican public, as you said in so many words.
Who in their right mind would want to engage into a conversation with YOU? If you want accurate figures, I guess you need to ask the man in charge, your Superhero Double Doctor… After a bunch of stuttering and splattering he might tell you, it’s none of your damn business.
Yeah and why cant you do that smart A**
Instead of seating and scratching your b***s talking nonsense.
At least I’ve got something to scratch which is more than can be said for you. Now get out of here!
In terms of attendance and income, the Dominica Festivals Committee could do even better by changing the name of the event.
May I suggest: “Dominica Popular Music Festival + All Else”.
This would definitely draw the crowds big time and at the same time prevent the genre of jazz being dumbed down into something it is not.
With a separate event devoted to jazz and its creole influence we could begin to foster an appreciation for one of the world’s most profound art forms, and moreover, an understanding in young Dominicans that this art form was created by those of African and Creole descent.
Such an event may not initially draw the crowds but it would in time appeal to the cognoscenti, as the success of real jazz festivals throughout the world have proven.
i support that. Because By and large Dominicans dont appreciate Jazz. At All. Soon as signal Band came on that is when they all wanted to dance and act like they enjoying themself. hypocrites. you really cant buy class. the dan dan and flowered shirts made no difference.
… ‘attracting visitors from the region, the French West Indies, the United States, and Dominican nationals abroad.’ How does she know this?
William, stop making monkeys out of yourself, I guess you haven’t heard of something called Data,if so look it up you might learn something new .
I will not doubt n increase in arrivals but i believe it should be backed up by statistical data. Having said that this event has significant growth potential
