Our attainment of National Independence should be a time of great pride and rejoicing. Everyone should be spiritually buoyant and in a celebratory frame of mind.

But, who’s in the frame of mind to celebrate the unprecedented state of joblessness; the widespread and deeply entrenched poverty; the injustices at the court; police brutality and killings; the complete demolition and extinction of the once thriving Middle Class; the victimization and persecution of law abiding patriots, and I can continue ad nauseam.

Presently, under Skerrit’s stewardship , there is only one thing we can celebrate, that is, some of us still have life. Once there is life there’s hope. There is hope one day, perhaps sooner than later, that Mr. Skerrit and his enablers would be forced into oblivion and Dominicans would shout to the top of their voices, “FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANKS BE TO GOD, WE ARE FREE AT LAST!

What did independence bring us but bondage by our own.

What we have right now parading as government is Plantation Politics. Only the complexion and the nationalities of those now in power have changed. The more things change the more they remain the same.
