Massive water project slated to bring ‘vast improvement’s to water service reliability in several areas

Grant addressing press briefing

A number of communities in Dominica will benefit from a water project amounting to the tune of over US$30 million.

The information was disclosed by Public Works Minister, Fidel Grant during a press briefing held recently.

The project forms part of the government’s Water Sector Strategic Development Project.

“The areas include, Roseau Valley which includes Trafalgar, Shawford, Fond Cani, Copthall, and Wotten Waven, the West Coast to include Coulibistrie, the East Coast which stretches from Morne Jaune to Castle Bruce, the Calibishie water intake and the Jimmit sewer system,” he said.

In addition to the US$30 million, another US$8.5 million is expected to be spent by the Government of Dominica and Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO).

“This project will result in a vast improvement in the water service reliability in the respective communities as well as create significant economic activity throughout Dominica,” Grant stated.

Meanwhile, Grant mentioned other large projects undertaken by the government.

This he said includes the Layou River Road Project estimated at $23 million.

“This project runs from the Hillsborough Bridge to the Yorke Valley Bridge and is divided into two phases,” he noted. “Phase one is currently being implemented.”

Grant continued, “The scope of work for phase one has been amended to include sections of the road carded for phase two.”

Furthermore, he explained that this allows four kilometers of rehabilitated roadway.

“This was made technically feasible by realigning these sections of the road away from the river’s edge, thereby reducing the vulnerability…,” Grant explained.

He explained further that what remains under this phase is the river protection and drainage work to be done under phase two.

“To date, phase one has been substantially completed. With the recent paving of the road, road marking and signage will be completed soon,” he revealed.

Regarding the section of road from the Yorke Valley Bridge to the Sultan Warner junction, Grant pointed out that the government is currently undertaking estimates and assessments for preparation for rehabilitation of that section of the road.

Me self I don’t know who the L it was that came up with the “Myth” that Dominica has 365 Rivers. People are crying for water everyday in some parts of the little Island. When a drizzle of rain falls then there’s no portable water in the homes. I want to see how those tourists are going to flush their poops in the Skeritt International Airport when it rains. Look a country, ehh??? Even the Haitians are decrying Dominica – Think about that.

Perhaps the “vast Improvements” could also extend to DOWASCO’s accounting.

For over two years have have been getting reminders that my account is overdue and that I am liable for disconnection. However, I’ve never had an account with DOWASO. I pump our water directly from the Antrim River as it flows through our land!

I continue to ignore their monthly reminders because unless they divert the river they cannot terminate my supply.

The most important thing is the majority of Wesley people and Dominicans support the building of the airport.Chi-chi Bang Bang can say whatever he want, this country is his country. He(Skerrit) built it after Maria.Where were you?Fidel Grant has nothing to say to crooks and traitors. This airport will be built by Skerrit and the Labour party in Wesley.Go to the UN tell them Skerrit is in Dominica committing crimes against humanity.TRAITOR.

But this article is very vague about this massive project. Exactly what is being done?
One area they need to seriously address is water filtration before it is delivered to people’s homes. That idea of having brown, silt laden water coming through the pipes every time it rains is something we need to improve. This ought not to be the case in these modern times. It just tells me that Dowasco is not concerned about the quality of water it delivers.

Zandoli, just so you know Dowasco is 100% owned by the government and I agree with you. We should not have that problem the way we do. Almost every day I hear Dowasco apologise for interruption in our water supply system, very often unscheduled. Makes me wonder if our lines are secure enough to prevent people breaking into them.

Yes! Your lines are very secure if you don’t use the water.

Interestingly, Laudat is also part of the Roseau Valley but is not listed here. A village with so much water yet there are sections of the lake road with no pipe borne water where residents are at the mercy of the rain.

Another futuristic, fanciful undertaking that will fizzle out just like so many others before. I’m left to wonder if incumbents of the ruling kakistocracy suffer from hallucination.

This article, as usual, is to mislead the public in thinking that Dominica is abuzz with economic activities. Some local media houses gladly embraced the daily diet of disinformation that is perpetrated on members of the unsuspecting public.

When will the people receive tangible projects and not just toothsome concocted pledges? Enough of that DNO. Be of much better value to your nation. I say this unapologetically.

I thought as Public Works Minister, i would be hearing from you re this international airport development, which is already shrouded in so much commess.
Does the airport have a plan Fidel?
Has it (the plan), been seen by the Planning Division?
Have you done the geo technical study Fidel?
    Where is the report?
    Is it at your home?
The public needs to hear what it says.
What about ESIA (Environmental and Social Impact Assessment)??
Have you spoken to Dominicans about it?
    If not, why not?
Why are you so MOO MOO about Dominica’s biggest infrastructural project Fidel?
Why is only Chi-Chi Bang Bang talking to us about the project, and not you?
    Has someone “castrated” your tongue?
    Have you abdicated your responsibility?

Whilst the minister mentions areas that will benefit from the project, and the funding agencies refer to medium to long term “interventions” for upgrading the water supply, nowhere can I find information on the work that will be done to achieve those ends.

In the long term, are we to continue relying on the problematic supply from direct river catchments, or are we finally moving towards the dependability of reservoirs?

LYING Athie said the government did not give him and his business a license to export water. When he was given the license, his last statement was, the companies he was supposed to export to did not build water storage tanks in the ground. The BARON used monies from his father water bottling company to finance the blue bugs political campaign, and koolay the company, just like they koolay the one in the Antilles.Instead of talking BS IBO,Francisco,Matt,Gabriel Christian,Dale Dangleben,Irvin Andre and Loftus Durand should form a company to export water from Dominica.Make the semi- lunatic, dictionary eating Jacka from St.Joseph manager.A bunch of blue bums bumping their gums everyday, and doing nothing to develop Dominica.
