19 Indians to spend two months in prison for overstaying in Dominica

Nineteen Indians appeared before the Portsmouth Magistrate court on Monday, April 19, 2021, where they were fined $3000.00 each for overstaying in Dominica.

According to information from the court, the non-nationals arrived on island legally via the Douglas Charles Airport between February 21, 2021, and March 21, 2021, and they were all granted permits to stay in Dominica for a period not exceeding three weeks.

However, on April 17, about 11:30 a.m., the Indians were intercepted on the E.O Leblanc Highway at Dublanc on a passenger bus by members of the Border Patrol Unit and officers attached to the Colihaut Police Station.

During the interception, law enforcement noticed that the bus was loaded with luggage and each of the Indians had their passport. An amount of US currency was also found in vehicle.

There were also three Dominicans aboard the vehicle which was travelling from the Southeast of the island heading in the direction of Portsmouth where the men intended to board a boat to leave Dominica illegally by sea.

They were arrested and later charged with overstaying.

At their court appearance, the Indians all pleaded guilty to the charge and the prosecution presented the facts and tendered their passports as exhibits in the case.

Following plea mitigation by their Counsel Wayne Norde, Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette- George imposed a fine of  $3000.00 against each defendant to be paid forthwith and in default, two months imprisonment.

Further, the prosecution presented an application to the court to have the Indians removed from the State which Norde objected to.

Following arguments by the prosecution and the defense, Magistrate Carrette-George granted the repatriation order and the Indians were ordered to be removed from Dominica after they had paid their fines.

However, Dominica News Online (DNO) has since learned that the Indians were unable to pay their fines and will therefore spend the next two months at the Dominica State Prison.

Maybe the Indians came to start an IPL cricket franchise in Dominica but changed their mind after losing their uniforms and equipment. Seriously though, this story has more holes than a block of Swiss cheese.

Government officials need to consider the fact that Dominicans on a whole are a very skeptical lot and are not as gullible as they assume. As such, they need to “wheel and come again” with a more detailed narrative concerning this matter. The public need to know if this was a one-off occurrence or part of a larger smugging problem.

Absent of the full “411”, folks will continue to put their own spin on what’s being offered up.
My two cents worth of gray matter tells me that the Indian contingent had no interest in enjoying our local tourist attractions but were very much hell bent on some illegal island hopping.

First time I reading a police report or court report of a crime that was committed and a passenger Bus or private vehicle was involved in the crime, but somehow they did not give the license plate number or the drivers name. So am I to conclude that the bus in question was either owned by a government minister or friend of the government? Boy I don’t believe that movie at. There is just something missing that they hiding from us

Be on GUARD Dominica, you’re dealing with a Conniving RACE, if left to ferment, will definitely end up in the quagmire that presently envelopes Guyana and Trinidad. Criminal activity in all it’s forms, plus their Racist CASTE system, makes them a people of non Credence. From Africa, England, Canada and USA, these people are willing to take extreme positions to better their position at the expense of all. In Trinidad, these people supported Trump’ breaking of International Laws against Trinidad’ 6 mile neighbor Venezuela, Guyana “meme Baghai”. Division, Land and Money is their MANTRA, when fake degrees and diplomas are added, a SNAKE with many heads or Leaches with many colors will create havoc on Dominica’ so-called Nature land. A treacherous people your part of the world are not acquainted to, is trying to build a bulkhead, be on your GUARD. In truth, Martinique and Guadalupe is their destination, their KIND have been there in numbers since the dawn of INDENTURESHIP. Take…

You may be right about Guadeloupe being their destination. That place has plenty people of Indian origin that went to work there after slavery was abolished. Normally they would need a visa to to Guadeloupe direct so I suspect they planned to go backdoor via Dominica. They could be easily absorbed by the Indian community there.I think Ghardakan family has its roots there also and see how he has prospered from his business with Dominica. Maybe these Indians going to work for him, who knows.

I would be shocked if Alibaba is not somehow connected to this story one way o r another. This story reminds me of Alireza Monfared, the friend of Skerrit and Nanthan. I personally don’t trust the police, the magistrate involved and that Portsmouth connection. To me it just smell like a well cooked story. Let’s not forget a few things that happened recently:
    1. Where did PM get his fake doctorate again? Was it India?
    2. When PM got rid of Ross wasn’t an Indian School supposed to replace Ross?
    3. Wasn’t PM powerful enough to get vaccines from India to the point that he could even share with Antigua?
So now 19 Indians came to Dominica legally but overstayed? And as a result Candia George gunned them $300 each? We’ll understand it better bye and bye

I don’t understand. Why you put them in prison here in Dominica at our expense. They don’t have money to pay their fine. Why not expel them straight away and save money. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Who is the bus driver? Who hired him? Or was he simply flagged down by the indians from the roadside? Remember bus drivers from MAHAUT (Blackmore territory) had a meeting with blackmore and Skero after the protest of last week.

I applaud the police unit for their good work this time in apprehending these illegal entrants into the country. Is Dominica a major illegal transshipment point for people and other things? When the head is rotten the whole fish is gone bad, example “Bin bobbol”.

Two months in jail means they are going to further over stay their time. lol , funny and the state is going to pay for them to stay now. (they have to be fed etc ) we can calculate the amount the state is going to pay based on the quarantine fee or a little less because i guess jail conditions wont be guest house conditions. The law and court system can be very interesting . sometimes the state punishes itself more when attempting to dispense justice.

    Makes no sense
This is the same as arresting someone for breaking Covid rules and putting them in a prison where there are certain to contract Covid
You fine them they are unable to pay and now the State has to incarcerate them for two months at the expense of the state
Food, clothing, medical and a responsibility to keep them safe
The Country of India should revoke the ceremonial doctorates adorning the name of the current Prime Minister which he wears so proudly

Wow the Indians are here for real. Don’t know what is behind that story but something fishy about that. We had that fake new medical school at old Ross which turned out to be really a CBI operation by people from India and we also hearing on the vine that allegedly Indian money was put into Fort Young through a company by the name of Gems. Then we learn India giving Skerrit vaccinations for Covid free of charge. I’m happy for that but India desperate for vaccine themselves. But of course Skerrit have a Dr. degree from Punjab in India and a lot of Indians living in Dubai also. What is really going on as if we don’t have enough trouble already.

These people are not the problem, they are the victims of people smuggling, trafficking. Dominica’s problem is the Dominica boat owners in the North; Portsmouth, Tanetane, Calibishie, Vielle Case, Thibaud, and Grand Bay in the South, who are involved in illegal people trafficking right under the noses of everyone and we all know who they are. If the police wanted to do something about the crime of people trafficking in Dominica, they would have waited for the people to board the boat, intercept, and arrest the boat captain and owner. They have been monitoring the movements of these people so they knew the operations. But that is not their aim. Their aim is not to stop the real Dominican criminals. Their aim is to make some money by the State fining people who are the victims while the criminals continue to wait for the next batch of people to smuggle and traffic. Welcome to Dominica Green and Blue economy!
