50 houses to be constructed in Kalinago Territory

PM Skerrit. File photo

Residents of the Kalinago Territory will soon see the construction of 50 homes which will benefit  families in that area.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement during a handing over ceremony held in Bataca last week.

“We got some monies from the European Union and as Minister of Finance, as Prime Minister, I am responsible for indicating along with the European Union, how we spend that money and where these monies are allocated for,” Skerrit said. “I decided to use an amount of those monies from the European Union for housing.”

He said he took a further decision as Prime Minister “to indicate that I want all of the money spent in the Kalinago Territory and that is how we are getting the 50 homes in the Kalinago Territory for Kalinago brothers and sisters.”

The Prime Minister revealed that the contract has gone out to tender and the bids should be in and hopes that a contract can be awarded “in the next few days.”

Construction works are expected to begin in July 2021.

Statement 1: “I decided to use an amount of those monies from the European Union for housing.”
Statement 2: “that I want all of the money spent in the Kalinago Territory and that is how we are getting the 50 homes in the Kalinago Territory for Kalinago brothers and sisters.”
First he decided by himself that “an amount” would be spent for housing at the KT, and then he wants ALL to be spent in the KT. Complete incoherent ramblings of an apparent deceiver.
Last week I challenged a Labour party supporter to name one (1) foreign investor that came to Dominica in the last 20 years to open up shop and create at least 100 Jobs in Dominica. He’s still working on that Homework.
Even Rich countries do not give away houses for free. Systems of transitional housing for persons in between employment. Rent to own and so on. Skerrit’s Governance style is creating allegiances/dependencies to secure votes and of course enriching himself. His approach to development mimics his speech,…

Dominica made a huge mistake asking for and getting independence from Great Britain, the country was much better off with its citizens as British subjects. When you have a clown running the country expect a circus with the people always begging for help. Yours truly minister of finance needs to give the up and up as to what happened too all those millions of C B I money for the last 15 years. He is fooling a lot of voters with hot steam from his power plant.

“Dominica made a huge mistake asking for and getting independence from Great Britain, ”

Whosoever you are, you do not know what you are talking about; because I was born, I was there a young boy when all of the colonies of the Caribbean, from Guyana in the South, to Jamaica in the North, and Dominica in the middle became independent.
For you information, and a lesson learn; none of the island nations ever asked; demand or fight for independence as some of you in Dominica claimed!

It all started in the 1950’s when the British encouraged a West Indian Federation; with Trinidad becoming the capitol of the West Indies.
(Review the Mighty Sparrow Calypso) ” People Want To Know Why Jamaica Run From The Federation.”
It ended in 1962/1963 When the late Dr. Erick Williams developed his mathematical formula 10-1 = 0.

When the Federation did not stand Britain gave the individual  Caribbean islands what the term State Hood with Britain.  They demand all of the islands become:

When the Federation did not stand Britain gave the individual  Caribbean islands what the term “State Hood in association with Britain.”
They demand all of the islands become responsible for their internal affairs while Britain “England” took responsibility for the islands external affairs.

The gave Dominica and the rest of the islands absolutely no alternative; they told us we were to manage our country internal affair: success or failure, at the end of five years, the British Government said they were cutting us from their coat tail, by giving us our independence.

        Which they did!

You know that is the sort of history that should be taught in our schools from elementary, to college; and not the damn lies as Skerrit told about Carib lived in hole at the waters edge at Marigot Bay in Wesley!
The British kept Montserrat, and Tortola which are smaller and less populated.
No island people in the Caribbean fought, fight, or wrestle for any independence!

The ambiguity in this statement. Why cant this guy say exactly how much was received and for what the EU said it can be used. This guy cannot help himself and shows every behavior of a thief. Disgusting!!

With regards to building of homes in the Kalinago Territory, someone needs to say that the political discrimination must stop. The red people are getting homes because of their affiliation and support of the red flag while the blue people and those with no party affiliation are told that they did not support red in the last elections, so the benefit is not for them. The last time I stopped by the builders in Concord, a red crony volunteered to tell me “look at what Labour is doing” rather than see how our government is looking out for its citizens. So, it’s not about those in greatest need. Some are getting houses to use as investments to rent while others who are really in need are living in makeshift shelters years after Hurricane Maria. Hypocrisy. Watch out, the PM will soon be coming to a funeral near you to play the plaster saint. Concerning the roads, for 20 years the KT has been promised better roads by the current PM and gang. It’s more than time that they do it.

The people of Dominica are more dispossessed, hungry, hopeless and divided now than under any other prime minister. Skerrit’s brand of voodoo economics has deprived many thousands of Dominicans from designing, building and owning a home for themselves.

His carefully crafted policies of deprivation and discrimination should be branded as ECONOMIC TERRORISM as the economic survivability of both local businesses and residents looks grim.

I suspect a very hot potato has been placed in your lying and corrupt mouth since he, Choksi, was allegedly kidnapped.

This one rogue, Mr. Skerrit, pops up intermittently and conveniently strictly for photo opportunity to hog media attention.

Instead of excoriating him for dismantling democracy in Dominica, the media, to the chagrin of many right thinking citizens, willingly and others unwittingly, contribute to this destruction of most democratic norms.

The announcement of fifty (50) hushes to be built in the Kalinago territory is invariably done to change the trajectory of the prevailing negative publicity that Dominica is receiving at present.

Until this man starts the restoration of our democratic practices and processes he should not be given any favorable publicity.

So all Skerrit can do is go to different villages to build houses then? Dominicans are not good enough for Skerrit to work and earn a living so all the people good for is to vote for a house?
So when they hungry will they eat the house? Can they pass it on to their children as an inheritance? It’s alright to give them house but what Skerrit is doing and the way he is doing it is a perfect recipe for poverty and putting the people under more curse

  18. Ibo France
    June 7, 2021

Exactly the kind of distraction Skerrit orchestrates and DNO is happy to oblige. He says NOTHING about the ongoing Choksi fiasco that is a tsunami which is further destroying the country’s already tattered image.

When journalists and the regular media fail to flush out excesses, corruption and illegality of a government, they have neglected their sacred duty. They are therefore complicit in giving succour to the ills and wrongdoings of that particular government.

Journalism is at its lowest ebb in Dominica. The ruling kakistocracy gets away with fraudulent elections, abuse and misuse of CBI monies, victimization, having innocent people arrested and dragged before a corrupt legal system for falsity.

The people and the country are being burgeoned by the iron fist of those in political power. Yet, the local media, just report precisely what the villainous ruling plutocracy wants them to.

The media houses are part of the problem and not the solution.

ADMIN: Certainly, DNO and by extension the media has a role to play in good democracy and we agree there is need for improvement. We have, and will continue to report on stories that are viewed as pro-government and those that are viewed as critical of the government.

However, the media alone cannot effect change – we do not decide or enforce the laws or elect the government, we can only report on those things.

Ultimately, any change or solution must come from society.

This Labour Government is visionless, Incompetent, not known of any meaningful concept of Socio-Economic Development and Child and Families Development.
Over 20 long failed years, since independence we have to be reminded that we have had as a Failed Labour Immature visionless Prime MINISTER, a highly Incompetent PM who it appears from our observations that this PM should have never been Prime Minister it our country, despite having the most ministers in his Government. It’s pretty obvious that Skerrit must get the hell out of our government who has failed our Dominica and our Suffering People. Rather than create Jobs and opportunities we have seen and witnessed Devious loyalty behaviour referred to as the ” Red , Clinic” where our Suffering unemployed people and families have been reduced to begging and then shout Out “We Love our PM Wi” How Disgusting, Shameful Treatments.
