I met Pershing and his mother Ruby in 1967 while in the Peace Corps. They took me in when I needed somewhere to stay for a while. I’m sorry to hear about his passing; I have never forgotten his kindness and honesty. A beautiful person.

I always referred to him as “Mr Pershing” or “Mr Waldron”. A exemplary family man, farmer, professional banking financial services executive, Honorable Speaker of the House of Assembly, church deacon… humble being, well loved by all. May He Rest In Peace.

Speaker of the House of Assembly under the Prime Minister, Honorable Patrick Roland John led Dominica Labour Party government, and stepped down as speaker after the PJ government was overthrown by the likes of Charles Savarin, then CSA General Secretary.

Mr Pershing was also the DLP Candidate for Portsmouth in the 1980 General Elections contesting against Honorable MIchael Douglas of DDLP/ DemLab (who won) and Charles Savarin of the DFP (who called the people of Portsmouth Black Caribs because he lost) and Titus Francis of the DLM Alliance Party.

Mr Waldron, a true Dominican Patriot. God be with you whereever your eternal journey takes you my brother. You will be missed
