31 year-old Cheadair Mellow of Pichellin has died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident which occurred at Jimmit on Sunday afternoon, according to the police.
Mellow got trapped when the Nissan car in which she was travelling ran off the road on the section of the Warner Road where it bypasses Jimmit and connects with the road leading to Petro Caribe. She was eventually freed by police, fire and emergency services personnel who got to the scene fairly quickly, according to Loftus Durand who was at the scene of the accident and spoke to DNO shortly afterwards.
The firemen were able to remove Mellow from the front of the car where she was trapped, by cutting out one of the front doors of the damaged vehicle which had flipped over.
Durand said he was informed by a nurse who was at the scene, that the injured woman was still alive when she was removed from the vehicle and taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital. He said that the three other people who were in the car when the accident occurred, were also taken to the PMH for medical attention. As of now, Dominica News Online (DNO) does not have any information on the extent of their injuries.
The police have promised to provide more information when it’s available.
It’s easy for everyone to say something and don’t know what happened.. yes speeding is an issue in this country but speeding wasn’t the cause. The vehicle brakes gave out cause the accident.
I cannot comment on this accident as I don’t know what happened. However, many vehicles don’t have lights, are overtaking for no real reason, are not watching the road, talking on the phone and even playing videos. Many people are not using indicators. People are driving too fast.
Where is the head of traffic? What professional and useful action is that person taking other than spending his time to call Q95?
I sympathize with her family and friends. Sad news indeed! Too many traffic fatalities and hurting families!!!
May her soul RIP!!
Our Police service and by extension the Traffic Department should realize by now that the number of traffic accidents occurring in a week are hyped up on week-ends.
Have the traffic department been doing enough in terms of data analysis of this subject as well as heightened patrol by police bikers 24/7. let this be a start in assisting the reduction of theses frequent weekend accidents.
If this will assist the police, these issues should be taken into consideration
-that some civilians are aware that police patrol is week on the weekends
– unlicensed vehicles and drivers on the roadways
-careless driving giving way to ignoring of traffic signs.
-more persons consume alcohol on a weekend
PATROL PATROL AND MORE PATROL 24/7
Sorry to hear that but our drivers need to pay more attention to the roads and slow down the problem is not the vehicle is the driver the life you save might be your own the roads are better now than 10 years ago and no need to have all these deadly crash we need to come up with a drivers education after one have an accident so they might know what they did wrong and they could avoid it next time
ah this is sad man
May her soul Rest In Perfect Peace with those of the ancestors. To family and friends hold strong in such trying times.
So many accidents resulting in “serious injuries” and death these days we just can’t seem to get over the hump. May god mercifully look over our people.
