That’s ridiculous – the driver cannot prevent anyone from taking photos. So many people were at the scene taking photos on their phone and cameras. There was a traffic jam caused as a result of the incident and from where I was sitting in a bus I also took a photo on my blackberry phone. the driver was behaving belligerently and had to be cautioned by one of the officers at the scene. (The taller one who was carrying the rifle across his back)

with the news roads now, one would think that there would be an increase in police presence around the place. As far as I see it, the quickest way for Dominica to generate some revenue is to start giving speeding tickets and to put tickets on cars which are badly parked on government roads. If we are welcoming developments we need to be prepared for the consequences and that is, the issuing of tickets. So please, tickets tickets tickets.

There is an officer under the canefield cliff and every morning i passed, he has his head down in a book or something. Not sure his purpose, remind me of the dummies that they put in the police cars in the USA.

  9. Reckless Actions
    March 11, 2012

First of all, yes the resurfaced roads give drivers the disadvantage to drive recklessly however people should have the common sense to drive cautiously and if they don’t they are irresponsible. And this issue is far beyond reckless driving the two vehicles involved in the accident were drivers/passengers were firing shots at each other and fled the scene when the incident occurred.

There is a course called Defensive Driving & Road Safety. I think we definitely have to introduce this into our system.
For people who already have their license they should be required to do this course before renewal.
The ones applying for a license should complete this course before receiving it.
Bus drivers and other general public vehicle operators, example taxi cars, should be required to sit through this course and be tested afterwards. Failing would render them lacking and therefore unauthorized to carry out public transportation for hire.
The course takes only one (1) day, but it may save the lives and cost of injuries of hundreds of us every year.
I don’t think the government should pay for it. It should be part of the cost of a license, especially to new drivers.

a suzuki escudo falls under a jeep category just like a toyota corolla falls under sedan.a dumper falls under truck,a honda crv, toyota rav4,suzuki escudo, toyota harrier, suzuki samarai etc etc they all fall under jeep as vehicle type. so one is correct to call a suzuki escodo 4×4 a JEEP

OMG.. all this fuss and name calling about the use of the word jeep? We really must learn to be more civil towards each other even when disagreeing and under the cover of anonymity. X C U S E me for interrupting your comment, but was skerro in the drivers seat on this occasion? When I drive and I do drive on Dominica’s roads….Skerro is not even in thought. How come you people are so ignorant in a civil society like Dominica. Because I would hate to think that there are students on here making such ridiculous comments. You have a computer at best access to the internet and in every day life you are still unable to distinguish between what the Prime Minister’s role is in this country? And even that he can’t possibly be responsible for you being on your mobile phones while driving and having a beer in the other hand…if you have a third arm that would be interesting to see cause you need both hands on the steering wheel to control the vehicle. And that’s precisely what caused the accidents people on their mobile phones and not caring that there are other drivers on the road whatever the time of day.

From time to time we Dominicans say things which make no sense. It is 2012 and we can do better than that! Especially news reporters and journalists because they have an influence on the reading public. The other vehicle in the accident is an SUV – Sports Utility Vehicle and NOT a Jeep! SPEED LIMITS SHOULD BE IMPOSED ALL OVER DOMINICA, AND OF COURSE,TRAFFIC POLICE WITH BIKES ON THE ROADS, TOGETHER WITH REDAR DETECTORS, DRIVE SAFELY D.A !!!

    • dominican
      March 10, 2012

the government needs to put speed radars and speed limits so when the radar detects one over speeding just send them a summon to come to court and present the evidence. these are the issues the opposition and others should look at . things that can change certain aspect in the country.there is so much work to be daone to make this country a proactive one instead of a reactive one so government and opposition needs to do more.

    • Student Love

A Lot is in a Name cause if you share similar name with someone and they do something unlawful with your name and address I am certainly sure you will jump all hoops to make sure that it is not you. You understand don’t you? With names there’s such a thing called Trademark laws and copyright laws so Dominicans never mind what the Americans do just get your intellect right yeah.

first of all the process of obtaining a drivers licence is very poor. how can your dad teach you to drive on his own vehicle? there must be laws and proper school with qualified instructors and appropriate vehicles. persons must first seat in a class for months before they can go on the road with a vehicle. man this whole country and all systems needs to be rearranged. for cryingout loud we are in 2012 not 212. our licence systems should be on a points basis each time you are founf wanting on the road you should lose points untill you have to return to driving school. this will make people more respondsible cause driving school will be expensive.imagine we do not even have breath tests and so many young guys driving especially during the weekend when they come out and sewo. government please take control of your populace and save the country lives and resources in the long run.
