The government should consider introducing speed cameras, it will increase revenue which should be used for road improvements and will eventually reduce speeding.

stupid drivers r every where. In the US they just like D/a. But i must say dominicans too like to b late and rush to get there on time. some of them never make it. Live ur dam house early and make time for traffic. just adding my 2 cents.

somebody please tell the people in power to place a speed bump before and after every village… Drivers know they supposed to slow down when entering a village but knowing is not enough… if you supposed to slow down anyway, then put a speed bump to ensure that it happens

Accidents happen all the time all over the world, good or bad road, we just have to drive carefully. We have to basically drive for each other. One thing I find and looking at the pictures of the road, while the roads look good, I think the contractors should give a nicer finish. The sides are so untidy. Stones and rubbish around the edge and it takes away the beauty of the road. Nice work but nasty finish takes away the beauty of the prject. Contractors please clean up the mess when the project is complete.

I hope no one was injured in this accident. Accidents always hold up traffic. This happens and all drivers must exercise patience at such a time. It is bad enough in a big country and in winter when it is snowing or if there is a snow storm.
When accidents occur, consider being held up for hours. It depends how bad the accident is and how many vehicles are involved. The road and highway may be closed. This is a worst dilemma for drivers who must go out of their way and make a detour. They arrive late for work, to their appointment and at home in the evening. Yes, it is annoying and disappointing but they have no alternative but to exercise patience. This is a way of life with a greater and growing population and many more vehicles. Today, Dominica has many more vehicles than in former years. Some of the roads are narrow and so drivers should exercise caution when driving if they are to avoid accidents and arrive at their destination in one piece, including their vehicle, other drivers and their vehicle and occupants, if any.

My people are getting more ignorant by the day. How could building houses for individuals be more important than having decent, motorable roads?? The road on the west coast was in such dangerous and deplorable condition, how quick we forget, we really have “memweh poule”.

@ da to the bone…..most of he accidents i see a happen in America…the vehicles were diverted…they were directed to another route…. in some cases you do not have a choice …..you do not have to live in America to know that…as long as you have a tv or Internet…so stop taking about America

If the government had done their job in the beginning, and relocated these dwellings, before the chinese started the road, like they were supposed to, we wouldn’t be having all these accicents and traffic jambs.

with all the millions wasted on the airport and the west coast road renovation…..thin of the housing renovation it could have created….the government would be receiving an income from home owners……

i think i should be the prime minister of Dominica

i would have cleared every body living on the beaches….created better beaches for tourists…cleared away numerous ghetto areas…

Would u create ur own printing merchine to print money?

Thats the only way I can see u could achive ur goals

  26. tiny
    August 21, 2012

why i getting all these thumbs down…the people who benefited the most from the renovation were the Chinese workers……………100 million dollars…correct me if I’m wrong…like i said before the money should have been used to complete a section …quality is better than quantity……

or like i said above they should have build homes in new areas for the underprivileged or even the ones who can afford to pay and tear down some of the ghettos that we have……….skerrit need to come better than that…………….stop making the Chinese dictate….

      August 22, 2012

      @ tiny

I will neither give you thumbs up or down. :) You must exercise patience. New homes were built and some more are being built for the needy in certain areas. In time, more homes will be built. You know the saying, “Rome was not built in a day.”
To be fair, the Chinese have done their best to build those roads and widen them. Drivers must be cautious. They should not drive close behind another driver. They must leave some space so as to avoid an impact and accident. Blame the drivers and reckless and impatient ones for the accident.

      • August 22, 2012

@ justice and truth ,, it’s the drivers to be blamed ,vehicles down move them selves and with patience and consideration for others who use the streets , there would be less incidents like these .

this renovated road is a waste of money…they should have build housed instead for underprivileged individuals……and charge them affordable rent…rent to own

What a load of BS. In NY, you travel on 6 lane roads, well build ( BQE, GRAND CENTRAL, SOUTHERN STATE) and when there is an accident, we all have to wait for hours.

This I can imagine happens in all 1 st world countries with much bigger and better roads but tiny, you just showing your true colors…..the size of your brain…tiny

        August 21, 2012

…. and leave the roads the way they were right ? There weere no need to re-build the road right? With gas prices going up and the roads getting un-repairable how do we belive building homes for people is de way to go. How do Dominica gain from that ? we say PM give to many hand out but we want him to build houses for everybody. I know government roll is island infrastructional development, homes, cars n more are PERSONAL development.

        @ tiny

Rent to own makes good sense. In this way the government will receive some revenue which can be utilized to build additional homes and yes, Tiny, wider streets and roads.
By the way in Canada there is Habitat, a non-profit organization. The government also donates money to this organization. This is through taxpayers’ money. They build homes for needy families. While they are being built, the future occupants help in constructing them, painting them, etc. It is mandatory (a requirement) that they give some of their time to complete building them. The houses are not given for free. They belong to them but they still have to pay something for them, as a small affordable mortgage for some years until they complete paying for the house. It is a real bargain, if you know what I mean. The occupants are ever so grateful, finally being able to have and to live in a decent home. In order to get something, people must give something and put something, be it their time into it.
I agree with you on this one. Housing should not be totally free. Some people are not grateful and humble when they receive everything free. They should also not depend totally on the government for their livelihood. God help those who help themselves.

      @ tiny

They are fortunate the roads are wider. You know how hilly and mountainous Dominica is. It is difficult to make some roads wider especially in some villages, where the homes are close to the streets and above the roads are hills and rocks. Drivers must settle for what they have. Thank God the roads are wider today than they were in bygone years. The bottom line is drivers must be careful.
