Accident in Tarreau

Three individuals have been injured in a serious accident that occurred  in Tarreau this afternoon.

According to eye witnesses report, the accident involved a Suzuki Helly Hansen Jeep PK992 driven by Lincoln Powel of St. Joseph and pickup truck #PB878.

Fire officials are currently at the scene attempting to remove the truck driver whose legs appear to have been crushed as result of the collision.

His passenger is also lying unconscious on the ground, the eyewitness said.

Powel received minor injuries but appears to be conscious and moving about.

Both vehicles are extensively damaged.

DNO will continue to follow that story.

These newly assplated (Ha)roads is sure tempting for those who think they now have road to speed, rather than being careful.
Last evening I drove under the canefield cliffs, this stretch is accidents waiting to happen…carnival around the corner-SMH. It was raining, the road is very black, no markings, drivers were still speeding and overtaking. Govt. should realy think of putting up a couple lamp poles down there to light up the road.

All u people just like to run all u mouth. Driving fast have nothing to do with it, Is driving stupid that is the problem. U can drive fast and be cautious. All u doesnt see when Skeritt and his gang passing how fast they does be. Why all you doh tell them not to drive fast too

      @ Dont Matter

Don’t Matter? It does matter! Whenever drivers drive fast, they are always exceeding the speed limit. This is what it means to drive fast.
Therefore what are you stating? What is wrong with you and your manner of thinking? Are you mad/crazy or what? What type of mind do you possess? You are the one is running your mouth and in vain  You are not utilizing your basic common sense if you have any.
Put on your thinking cap. Driving fast which exceeds the speed limit is an offense. If caught by the Police who will be patrolling the area, that driver will receive a ticket to appear in Court and a fine will be imposed. Who knows, imprisonment as well. The driver’s license could be revoke. Bad enough some drive with expired driving license or may not have a legal driver’s permit or license.
Give this a further thought. If a driver is driving fast and an animal, a child or adult run across the road and the driver puts on the brakes quickly to avoid an impact, what do you think could occur? It would be a miracle if that driver does not get into an accident which could result in injuries and death, even his/her own.
If a driver is driving fast and another driver is approaching from the opposite direction and is driving fast, exceeding the speed limit and could be on the wrong side of the road, believing that there is no oncoming traffic, also while turning a corner, what do you think could happen to both the drivers and passengers, if any?
Driving fast is not the answer.
If others drive fast, it is at their own peril and that of their passengers. Better to be cautious than sorry. Slow and steady wins the race.
Where it pertains to drivers and passengers, whoever they are, the driving laws should always be adhered to, morning, noon and night with no exception.
The Police should not hesitate to stop, either warn or ticket drivers who are driving fast who exceed the speed limit whether they are driving important people or not.
In Canada/Toronto, we are always advised to leave early whether it is for work or to attend a meeting so as to avoid the rush and to get to our destination on time. Furthermore, it will be less nerve-racking and less anxiety. It appears that humanity has not yet learned to slow down and also to drive cautiously. If they continue this, someday they will pay the price and by their lives.
Drivers as well as pedestrians have been injured and/or died when rushing and trying to beat the traffic; pedestrians, when running for a bus and trying to beat the street lights. Those are useless injuries and death.
Before you blame and criticize others for providing sensible advice, give this a good thought.

I am sorry to read of this accident and injuries.
Dominica has had some very bad accidents in the past few years. Some people have lost their legs, been injured otherwise and some have died.
One would think that those DA drivers who continue to get into accidents and some fatal ones by speeding and not obeying the rules of the road FOR COURTESY SAKE to other drivers and passengers, including their own, will they never learn a lesson?
You are putting your life, your passengers, other drivers and their passenger at stake. WAKE UP! DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY! If nothing happens to you, it may only be a matter of time that it will. Think of your life, your well-being and that of others including your family. LEARN! LEARN! LEARN TO DRIVE PROPERLY AND ROAD COURTESY AND SAFETY!
YES! They need to utilize seat belts. This is something that the government should consider and implement.
Dominica is progressing and becoming like a little City. Therefore, it is time to think big as a City and know about its Laws of the roads which will benefit all.

It Is just sad that we are there talking about brand of vehicle and what it should or should not be called i mean people you need a little bit more compassion. The stupid transport no matter what you want to call it is metal. Our focus needs to be on the ones injured an pray for their speedy recovery :-x

They need to be fined heavily for speeding, there must be a law implemented with a speed limit immediately.

stiffer penalties …that’s what i say we need. then people will think twice about the way they drive. this has always been a problem in DA and will remain so until something drastic is done.

  11. January 27, 2012

Have you not heard of the expression “never see come come crazy”? We now have Highway as overseas so they driving like they on a true highway, jackassess> You see them race pass then you see them a view vechiles ahead of you, where they going. Just want to show off

    • Justice and Truth
      January 27, 2012

      @ Zabocca

Yes! To my knowledge I recall it is never see come see, come crazy. Of course, there are always other ways of putting it. :)
They speed and they will eventually pay the price either by their lives, being injured and badly too and causing others likewise. They have no regard for also their passengers or other drivers and those who have passengers. They would not want to die, or lose a leg, arm, etc., or that others are injured through their fault. Yet, they will continue to speed recklessly. The very same thing they never consider will happen to them, will happen to them. Some mortals are fools. I hope they have adequate insurance when they and/or their estate are sued. It is said do not sue their assets. Sue their principle. That is, what they derive from their assets which may be more than their reported assets. Hope they have some.

You made me laugh. You have made a good point. They may not be able to speed and will drive more slowly. They appear to have too much road to drive on. On a humorous note, “when they see the wide and smooth roads they get excited and speed up” as if they are protected from getting into an accident. They deceive themselves.

we just have to take it easy on the roads and be mindfull of what is happening on the road when we drive,be very observant and also lend a listening ear, once you are on the road it is expected for accidents to take place, what one can do is try to decrease the high rate of accidents.

After a review of the recent west coast highway work being undertaken I am of the firm opinion that we are better served with the road being two lane than a 3 or 4 lane.

The speed at which these people drive its almost unbelievable. We drive too fast in Dominica.

Maybe some “speed bumps” or “sleeping policemen” will have to be placed on the long stretches of resurfaced roads, like Tarreau, Canefield, Jimmit etc.

    • Roz
      January 27, 2012

They will have to put speedbump every 100 feet and around all corners, if that is the case. And that still will not work. Man overtaking on speedbump and all.

    • Bram
      January 27, 2012

Are you a retard or what? How do you expect to put speedbumps or sleeping police on a highway? You got to be crazy or something. What are you on????

    • Justice and Truth
      January 29, 2012

      @ Senior Citizen

A good point for “speed bumps.” We do have some in Canada. Also radars and cameras. All for drivers’ and pedestrians’ protection.
Are your also a resident of Canada or in the U.S. or Europe?
The government is making a mint. Those tickets are mailed to their place of residence.
The problem is some drivers do not pay up. It is stated that when they go to renew their license, they will have to pay up prior to obtaining a license renewal. Good idea. The DA government should adopt this policy.
We must also consider the cost of insurance, higher cost for those who have caused accidents and insurance benefits paid out to those who are injured and the family of victims who died.
All this cost, pain, suffering and grief for all concerned. If only drivers would consider this, they would drive cautiously. This is in addition to not drinking prior to driving.

  29. January 26, 2012

I always say that dominica need to put in place raders to watch out for those dangerious driver who don’t respect the driving limit, once caught you have no right to drive again untill the police give you the right
