Dominica News Online has received information that there was a motor vehicle accident on the Castle Bruce stretch last evening at approximately 6:30pm.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when two vehicles, a four-wheel-drive Toyota pick-up, PK911, and a double-cab two-wheel-drive Nissan pick-up, 9852, collided on of the bridged section of the stretch.
Bernard Laurent, 57, a passenger in the back of the Toyota Pick-up, also known as ‘Sweet Daddy’, was thrown from it into the river and the vehicle landed on him.
Laurent managed to survive with a broken hand and a deep laceration behind his left ear. He is now at the Alford Ward at the Princess Margret Hospital recuperating.
Neither driver was seriously injured in the accident. The driver of the Nissan pick-up left the scene of the accident, but subsequently returned.
The Castle Bruce Police are currently carrying out investigations into the matter.
Dominica News Online will bring more information as it becomes available.
the devil try his best …… but i prayin for u
My Mother Big bottom!!! God alone that save mister….i telling you…He got thrown and it land ON him…and all he got was a broken hand??? The devil tried But Jesus prevailed.
truth justice peace and whatever else …. its an accident not a crime so be a little considerate cause if it was ur father brother or son driving u wont be running ur mouth so…. charged do u know thats its an instant reaction to run away from n accident scene do ur research i was in an accident n the driver was so scared he left n ran like a mad man… yes he was injured no matter how careful u are inlife whatever has to happen to u will happen someone has to pay him yea sure do want to assist stop being one sided n thank god everybody is ok for now “”Always put yourself in the other person’s shoes/position” thats what u said but are u placing yourelf in my family shoes right now>????
The driver left the scene of the accident and returned, for what and for what reason? Mention was not made that he went to get help for his injured passenger. I hope he did. Otherwise he should be charged for leaving the scene of the accident. It is a serious matter and against the Law, in any country that we reside in.
In most cases drivers always get away unscathed. Passengers get the brunt of injuries and if they are fortunate to be live.
Once again, it appears that reckless driving was involved in this collision. They impacted head on. This is another traffic violation. Those drivers should be charged.
When are some of those drivers going to learn to drive safely and on those roads that are narrow and steep?
I feel sorry for the man who was injured. Fortunate for him he is alive. He is suffering. Pain hurts. If he is employed while he recuperates he will not be able to earn a living. If he has a family to support he will obviously not be able to do so. Someone has to pay him for this.
I pray and hope that in time he will recover from his injuries. May God assist him.
to DNO:
JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS::
keeping Dominicans away from home in touch with whats happening.
the driver did come back, unlike the bath estate lady who did not,but turned hersef in with her lawyer.the poor man from that accident died.why blame foreign drivers just because u had and unfortunate encounter with one.20 years ago i almost met my maker on that very same bridge.the driver was trying to get across before the other one.
i know what being crushed alive felt.
thank God everyone’s ok and it did not turn tragic like that bus from marigot.
speedy recovery to all involved.
PLZ GET WELL SOON AM PRAYING FOR U LOVE
Better traffic safety signs and warnings, and CCTV cameras in the more accident prone areas to help the police with vigilance in these areas and discourage drivers from being reckless on the roads. sterner traffic laws and penalization of those who run foul with the law may also act as a deterrent to dangerous drivers, also road safety campaigns put some nice big billboards (like the ones with Skerrit face that we saw around elections) in strategic locations along our road network, with graphic reminders of the consequences of dangerous driving and “wear your seatbelt” reminders, a little education and a strict legal system can go a long way in helping prevent accidents.
For God’s sake, this is an accident and not a political situation! This is a NO! NO! Why the reference to the Prime Minister?
Even though your heart possesses hatred for the PM for whatever reason which you should not, except that you do not support him and I am certain that he did you no wrong, there is absolutely no reason and is unnecessary for you to mention the Prime Minister’s name in your response of this article. It is uncalled for and highly disrespectful and rude of you.
Keep in mind, STICK TO THE ISSUE!
Always put yourself in the other person’s shoes/position. If it were you, would you like someone to lambaste you and speak ill of you, making sarcastic comments to you, your mother, father and other members of your family specifically when the situation does not call for it and on this Website? Put on your basic common sense and your thinking cap if you have any.
Offer comments for improving Dominica, decreasing accidents and how well you, too, can serve Dominica to make it a happier, peaceful and safe place to reside in. This is what God requires of you and others.
Be fair and just. If you do not support a certain Party, politician or the Prime Minister, there is no need to criticize him and utilize derogatory language about him and on a Website.
You need to learn love, consideration and tolerance. Learn to comment educationally that others might learn something from you. You have much to learn.
I Have my preference for a political Party and PM. I will not lambaste one whom I oppose in the Media especially when the circumstance does not call for it. You are just stirring up trouble.
How loving, happy and peaceful are you?
There are some comments as yours which do not apply to the article and which should be disallowed on DNO.
I urge you, if you are a Christian, a practicing one, to conform your will to that of God, namely His Ten Commandments and loving one another. This is a condition for living a relatively happy and peaceful lifestyle and obtaining God’s compassion, mercy, forgiveness and subsequently obtaining His Heavenly Kingdom. How Christian-like are you?
St. Vincent de Paul said: “Be kind! Be kind! And you will be a saint.”
This is one to be practiced and to live by while on earth and not when you may be sick and dying. It may be too late. Your heart, mind and soul need to be transformed to the image and likeness of God.
GET WELL MY FRIEND HOLD STRONG MY FAMILY, MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU
Thank you for fixing the grammatical errors.
we need to know what to say and when to say it. the things we say with that piece of flesh we have in our mouth is disgracefull are we not living in domimica? we say bad things about our country and we expect good we curse dominica so we will get nothing good. i think if we cant say something good about yhe country where we were born and raise we are not fit to be there.remember people what we say is what we get. so let us stop being fools and bless our nation. life and death is in the power of the toung ,always remember that. MAY GOD BLESS DOMINICA AND THE LEADERS AND THE PEOPLE. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR SOUL
pray for my daddy,Thank God he survived with minor injuries, wish i was home to be with him at the hospital…i have nothing to say about the other driver other than who ever you are you’re in God’s hands.
Am not suprise if is a medical student from all saints university dat do dat, because i was a victim of that just around the easter there ; a alsaints university student hit me and run but luckily for me i was able to see the vehicle colour, the make and the name of the rental agency so i was able to trace him and up till now he refuses to accept his liability; the matter is now in the courts. I say all that to say people must be very careful at nights with those crazy foreign drivers, they specializes in hit and run
Excuse you?? How can you be so sure that the driver from the accident od May 23rd was from All saints?? I am sorry to hear about your accident and I hope justice is served but you cannot go around blindly putting a name to this! I am a student at All saints and I am offended by this accusation!!! Stop trying to give my school a bad name!
Di he say the driver was from All Saints??? Or did he say he would not be surprised if it was one of them? You’re a university student and cannot comprehend simple English?
so is hit and run now….that person obviously maybe did not have drivers liscence or something for that person to see that type of accident he or her caused and fled the scene… no eye witnesses nothing, that person could have been dead the vehicle landed on him… what are we doing in this place the police need to not only put their efforts in drugs, but in everything, we need our laws enforced in Dominica..
i have already said i am giving Dominica 3 more years and the new road and we will see we will soon be called TI GWADA!!!
the way we moving, is right in that direction!!!!
There is nothing about upgrading:accidents happen in a flash.BE CAUTIOUS ON THE ROAD.IT’S NOT YOUR YARD
these are just simple accidents that could be avoided if we systematically upgrade our road networks…I’m disgusted at these one lane bridges in this year 2011!!
yout, you couldnt have said it better, one lane bridges on two way roads, so ridiculous
even on the six lanes bridges there are still accidents, my point, people should be careful when they drive.be conscious of their lives and the lives of others.
i already said the bridge on the stretch is to narrow only one vehicle can pass that does not make since the road is twice the size of the bridge i seen these accident happen before because both drivers believe that they can reach the bridge before each other with high speed we need a wide bridge what is johnno parl rep doing about that the next level we want it seems that govt is building bridge all over but they forget east coast like rosalie and castle bruce bridge what is ivor stepehson doing about the rosalie bridge each time it rain river overflows the bridge
The vehicle DID NOT land on him, and he DOES NOT have a broken arm!
are you at the hospital? we’re you at the scene?
As a matter of fact mr/ mrs corection (with one r), the he does have a broken arm and the vehicle landed on him. Now is not the time for this drama, just be sympathetic. Anyways daddy, praise God for a praying wife. we are praying for you. See you soon.
NOT AGAIN!!!!!!!! COME ON FELLOW DOMINICANS THAT IS NOT FUNNY ONE BIT……….THOSE WHO RAN AWAY….THEY CAN’T BE GONE FOR TOO LONG…AND NOT TOO FAR…AS WE ALL KNOW DA SMALL…AND DA PEOPLE KNOWS EVERY THING AND EVERY ONE MOVES….SOME PAPARAZZY WILL SELL THEM OUT…….
haitians alone that does do those things there because they do not have liscenece to drive..
so many dominicans driving without license
checking…….. stop blaming it on the Haitians
papamet what a story.
I pray for him and his family
But what is this?? The other party fled the scene?!! I think we are being influenced too much by the
American lifestyle now. What if the victim was severely injured? Man, whoever you are, you better face up!!
So hit and run wow heartless sad so sad.
.
Glad he is recovering. Could have been worst. He was very fortunate. For the other drivers and bikers out there: seat belts and helmets, please.
Boy d end of the days are hear, bath estate repent from your dirty ways, big up to baggio you large

speedy recovery 2 the victim…I know he is in pain but God Bless it wasn’t worse than that…Shame on the other part who fled the scene…but something is drastically wrong…soooooo many accidents 1 behind the other.
Point of correction Mr, Administrator, he was not the driver of the vehicle. he was on the passenger seating side. He’s nicknamed ‘Sweet Pappi.’
Castle Bruce again?!?! TOUT BAGAY!!
Hope the victim will be alright
HOPE U GET WELL SOON AM PRAYING FOR U LOVE
God be with you’ll!…
Wow, I pray for the victim, that the injuries are not that grave. God help us all.
