Confirmed reports reaching DNO indicate that manager of the Grand Bay Credit Union, Germaine Jno Phillip, died suddenly early on Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Jno Phillip had been at the helm of that organization for many years and her sudden passing comes as a “shock” to Grand Bay and the credit union movement in Dominica.
At the time of her passing she was involved in many activities in the community and the Catholic Church.
President of the Credit Union Board, Edward Registe described her as a stalwart in the movement in Dominica and said her death is a major blow to the credit union movement in Dominica.
“She was certainly a stalwart of the credit union movement for the past 22 years; she served and managed the credit union. She was well known throughout the credit union family in Dominica. She was very devoted to what she did and quite a bit of the success of the credit union can be attributed to her success,” he said.
Registe said her passing came as a surprise and shock to members of the credit union movement.
He indicated that some measures will be taken to continue her legacy.
“It has left a void in our operations. We are saddened by her passing and we will do something to ensure the continuation of her legacy and to commemorate her memory and contribution to the credit union,” Registe noted.
if u had a surgery on your breast u can and is allowed to have showers on your own and can be sent home the following day or two. with myomectomy hysterectomy this is different someone has to assist u.
a very huge sadness when we were told of that awful news…rest in peace dear madam Germaine;we’ll think of you.
all our condolence to her family, from FRANCE
Elisabeth and Lionel
I am very sad
Rest in peace
PMH may have little resources to treat its patients but to accuse the staff of neglect is insane. When an autopsy is performed on a corpse, especially if the patient dies in the hospital, it is to verify the actual cause of death because there is doubt as to the cause of death.
People die on the operating table. Some die immediately after surgery. People die with NO illness at all. You all think because PMH has limited resources that is the reason for death. Why are people dying in Broward General Hospital, University Medical Center, and all he top notch hospitals in America?
Va
They need to check out for a blood clot that travel somewhere in her. RIP mam sympathy to the family n friends
So sorry to read of her passing after a supposedly successful operation. I wonder what happened to cause her sudden death?
There are times some people feel well after an operation. Nevertheless, they should take precaution, not to overdo it and so soon. All the same it could not be helped. It was how she felt at that moment.
Someone should have been with her or remained nearby in case she needed help. I hope the hospital authorities take note of this, that in future such a situation will not recur, to other patients.
My heartfelt sympathy to her family. May God sustain you at this time. Take heart.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen!
Just about a week and a half ago I was introduced to Germaine and to hear her passing yesterday I was deeply shocked.. we are all here on this earth for a time and in this time we ought to make use of it and be good followers and stewards of Jesus Christ.. As far as I know she was a person of integrity, humble and helped everyone she could. my condolences to her entire family in Dominica, St Martin and else where RIP Germaine God has a better place for you..
Very very very SAD! May her soul Rest in Peace!!!
My deepest sympathy to her family and also the Grand Bay Community.

You will be miss in HAGLEY.. and when I come to DA, I will missing coming to see you in the credit union my friend
I am not sure about the cause of death, if she was dianosed and depends on the stage that she was in there is nothing much that can be done. Second she should have a nurse to help her bathe. I had surgery and my time spent at the hospital here in St.thomas was not the best. The day after surgery the CNA attendant came to help me take a bedside bath. When she came to me I knew her very well but she didn’t know me. I first asked her to give me a hand so I can get up. Do you know what she said to me? “I will force her” and I am just 140lbs. I was not asking to lift me. Afterwards I managed on my own. I felt nauseous, this feeling was just like I would pass out. Anyway after I sat on the bed and started taking a light sponge bath I started feeling better and afterwards I was told to eat and take a walk. Not critizing anybody but after surgery a patient needs assistance and has to be monitored and not left alone to take a bath etc. After this experience I am now studing to be an RN and knowing that this field is an areaa where people must care for people and not just for the money. I do not mean to critize anyone. My condolences to the family and friends. I met germaine in december not knowing this was the last day that I would see her and family. To the family may god strengthen you all at this time of bereavement.
rest in peace and may god continue to shine his light upon your family :
the sweetest manager ever could find on this earth miss you and will always have you inmy heart

“I will meet you up in heaven.”
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of my colleague in the Credit Union Movement of Dominica.
rip germaine… you will surely b missed…
I do not know her personally but to her family I say accept my sympathy. May her soul rest in peace. To those who are bringing down the health care system: from the comments I read she was suffering from cancer. You guys should know that once diagnosis with cancer and one decide to have surgery depending on the stage of the cancer that person is just Signing their death certificate. Cause surgery complicates things. Note I said depending on the stage of the cancer. Educate your all self before you all make negative comments and bring down the health system. Dominica has good doctors like Paul, Ferreira, Roberts, Pascal etc. But when that door is knock no matter where you there’s nothing you can do about it. Once again RIP seems like u were a wonderful person.
So sad….. She was such a quiet and caring person…. Knew her from school. May God give your family the strength to endure this loss.
This is a great loss for the grandbay community.Jermaine was well loved well liked by everyone in g/bay community. As manager of the credit union she helped alot of us throughout the years.I have never heard her name mention in any scandal and many including myself knew her to be very trustworthy (run’s in the family)where business was concerned.U will surely be missed cousin.Rest in peace Jermaine.
Germaine today is a very sad day for me as i know you personally. The Good Lord saw it fit to call you home. May you rest in his bossom. My prayers to mrs Julian and the rest of the family. Be strong and of good courage. The hardest thing is for a parent to bury a child. May God give your family the strength. Mom is home and will be there as she represent us, as we are unable to be there.
Very nice person you were indeed, Rest in Peace Mam!
Germaine,
I never thought in a million years 2011, in Dominica, would be the last time we would have the opportunity to wrap our arms around each other to share our last hugs and kisses. We sat in your office and talked about the good, the bad, and the ugly. We shared laughter; we spoke about some sad things. But I never imagine the last time I would see your face was on our Facebook video chat.
Your desire was to inspire, lead and to control other business affairs. You were are giving, courageous and bold, action oriented, energetic and strong willed person. You always wanted to make a difference in the world, and this attitude often attracts you to cultural interests, social issues, and the cultivation on of your creative talents at home and the office.
Your name Germaine has given you a virtual, reasonable, rational approach to life and a great deal of patience. You were the type of person that would try to move the mountain to help another; you would go beyond your limits to make people happy. Your boundless love and caring for your family was divine; you were efficient at what you do at work, and you ensured that your workers and customers’ needs were met. There were not many people like you in the world; you were a unique soul, God has greater purpose for you and may you soul rest in perfect peace.
G is for great, which described you.
E is for expressive, not one to hold within.
R is for respectable; I knew your mother taught you that.
M is for Magnificent, for the magnificent qualities you had.
A is for affectionate, you were blessed with many.

N is for natural, for your natural beauty
E is for ethical, you knew right from wrong
My Love and prayers goes to your family
You will be miss in HAGLEY.. and when I come to DA, I will missing coming to see you in the credit union my friend… wow..Marva
That is such a wonderful send-off Marvs, I can tell you loved Germain. Although I didn’t know her, she seemed a wonderful individual based on all these lovely accounts by everyone. May her soul rest with Father God. If she died with Christ, she is present with the Lord. May God strengthens her family.
Our deepest sympathies to the Jno Phillip family. She was such an intelligent person, compasionate and caring. She will be surely missed. Alvin hold strong. We are praying for everyone touched by this untimely passig of a great one.
my heart hurts… bye cuz. Breast cancer runs in our family, but i wished i had said bye.Rest in Peace, you have left your mark.
But the cancer didn’t kill her
from stthomas we will miss you you was a very good friend to us.
Very sorry to hear, Germaine was a very quiet and nice person. Pray that God comforts her family at this time.
R I P
Rest in peace. May God take care of the family
OMG! I saw someone saying RIP Germaine on my facebook account but told myself that it had to be some other Germaine. My heart is so broken now, I cannot believe that your are gone. You were definitely a good person, Grand Bay is mourning.
RIP Germaine…so sad
it was so sad hearing about your death ,my friend woke me up telling me about your death tears ran down my eyes. that pmh hospital we need to get better doctors form cuba and the usa because they know what they doing and that minester and ps they have they do not know how to run the hospital so get people that can do it.
you bad mind change u name shallow mind your comments have no sense.
buolay i couldnt agree more wif u
Oh shut up! Ignorant! The lady was diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery on monday. She died today. Does that mean the doctors are no good? PMH only people die? Yall just so darn critical of my country but go elsewhere and gladly accept garbage. Offer ur condolences and keep it moving.
rip germaine. Ma Julian, her sisters, husband and children, may God give you strengtg.
Death comes to all but this sudden passing hit hard. May the Lord grant strength to Germaine’s family, friends, co-workers and the community of Grand Bay at large. While she was diagnosed with breast cancer it is a bit difficult to believe that is the cause of death; something seemed to have gone wrong. That however is no reason to bash our medical system, Attention needs to be focussed on areas that needs improvement.
@mmm hmm,IT IS CLEARLY YOU ARE THE IGNORANT ONE HERE…
Why a surgery patient be sent home just days after undergoing a OP for cancer?…Why was she not kept longer for observations?…This to me is a totally negligence of the doctor or doctors at the PHM!
It is sad to see such a young woman depart much too early from this life..Way before her time!..
When the health minster suffered a stroke some months back,he was quickly rushed overseas for treatments…Why was he not attended at the PMH?…It’s because the hospital is uncomplete and have few less trained medical staff at hand..No up to date equipments..And if they do,no one knows how to operate them!! Most of the times you will be told the cat scan is out of order…
The hospital has never seen any renovations since after hurricane David!…It’s in a disgraceful state..The toilets are dirty and hardly have any running waters..It stinks from urine and traces of feces can be seen marked on the walls….Peoples are having to sleep on the floors of the hospital because of not enough beds…The sick is looking after the sick..Why?..Because the nurses who should be doing their jobs spends more time beffing…
It is sad to know that so many deaths have taken place at the hospital and the families of the deceased accepted the fate of their loved ones not seeking deeper inquire as to why?!!..Yes people’s die..Accidents do happens and doctors are not Gods..But your peoples of Dominica need to wake up…To many deaths!!!!..Yes too many deaths are taking place at the PMH and no one is being asked for a investigations as to why…You peoples just accepts the facts that your loved ones is dead and lets bury them…You are quick to tell others to hush up and that they criticize…Is it because you know the truths lays right before your eyes?..But you are to afraid to do something about it?..
Mistakes are made..But how many times should a doctor make one?..We hear of false medicament being given to peoples!!…We hear of wrong diagnoses!!…And many more sad stories…In a modernized world, don’t you honestly think that Dominica should have a fully equipped hospital with clean environments and happy staff members?!!
It is saddening and if nothing is done soon, you all shall make to suffer…Well, only those who can’t afford the overseas trip to a better facilitate hospital!!..Wake up peoples..Face the truths!!..Demand changes for your health system!!!..
Looking at the picture of this young woman, something tells me she did not have to die so young…
To her family and friends I’m so sorry..My condolences to you and may she rest in peace..She will be missed by many who loved her..God bless! you all!
at koko:
Where do you get your news from? She was sent home where? She collapsed and died on her way from taking a shower she was sent home?
@mmm hmmm, you just confirmed the negligence taking place at the hospital!…The woman had no right to be unattended taking a shower on her own after surgery!!!!!…It’s high time the hospital officials are made to pay for these negligence continuing crimes at the PMH!!!!!…..
I hope the family take a stand and demand some answers and inquiring the death of this young lady!..Enough is enough…To many deaths!…it’s frustrating to listen to the death announcements daily and hear how many people’s died at the PMH!…
If she had breast surgery/cancer on Monday and died on Wednesday it is apparent that the cancer had already spread, and cutting through it made matters worse. On the other hand, surgery may have been performed on a person days before her dying day.
Our Date of Death is already determined, and unavoidable. NOTHING can stop death. May her family be consoled, and may her soul Rest In Peace.
bad mind know exactly what she saying! because it was negligence that caused that death! AND the doctor WAS trained in cuba. whether that had a part to play in his negligence i do not know but it WAS negligence and i love how the article doesn’t mention ANYTHING about the circumstances of her death. where is the investigative reporting DNO??? ANY other country and the hospital and that doctor would be SUED!
RIP Germaine
R.I.P……..how old was she?
Excuse me what are you doing with her age????
Rest in peace my dear. Attended high school about the same time. The good Lord giveth and taketh away. Only he knows when and what he is doing
Rip from ashton and family condolancea to all the family and friend.
R.I.P Jno. Phillip. What’s going on in Grand Bay Community. It was leader of SHAKIS BAND now its the Manager of the Credit Union. This is very fishy.
um excuse me….people supposed to make an appointment with you first before they die???
Hehehehehhe..vetry funny
very fish?? that’s just ignorant. Death happens. Don’t imply that people are secretly murdering others.
Did you hear they were murdered? People die you know…it is inevitable and natural but to respond to your frat, they were both ill so nothing is going on in grandbay that isnt going on where you live
DJJ …I excuse you. Guess when people don’t know what to say and looking for attention, they come up with the weirdest things which cause others to raise their eyebrows. People die, once you are a living thing expect to die one day.
Death is every where we don’t know the time and place it is not easy to accept offer your help to the surviving family members the sick always die and even those who are not sick die to that’s a contract our parents gave to us. R.I.P Germaine
So what is that supposed to mean? High profile people not supposed to die in Grandbay??? There have been many other deaths in Grandbay and all around the island. Listen to your death announcements once in a while and think twice before letting your ignorance prevail.
Really, whats going? To me many things have been going on….Where were you a few Sundays ago? I heard quite a bit happened!
RIP Madam Manager. You’ll certainly be missed
oh my how sad to hear the passing off jermain its sad .pray for the family and friend s for comfort them .god bless .RIP
Rest in Peace Germaine! We went to high school together and I am very shocked to hear of your passing. It touched me deeply since we should be about the same age. Condolences to your family.
We cannot decide how and when a person dies but given the volume of responsibility that a nurse has in the after care of a patient, we may have to institute a bedside procedure; either a family member comes in to give bedside care or an agency is formed and organises bedside care where employees go through a 2-3 months training to give that kind of care and people pay for that 1 to 1 service, in that way patients can be monitored. Maybe the nurses are over worked and are too tired to give the individual attention. That’s my contribution to minimise some of the mishaps at the PMH>
What are you talking about? Here in the U.S nurses are overworked and maybe even more overworked than those in Dominica. Most times 1 nurse is on one section with at least 6 different patients to take care of for at least 8hrs or some 12hrs. In nursing homes are even worst. Stop being too quick to bring down the country. Nurses are overworked all over the world
AMEN! She was doing great after the surgery. Was walking around up to early this morning…collapsed coming from the shower…where were the nurses? knowing she had other common complications? They did nit take care of her so all of you outsiders implying she died from breast cancer, she DID NOT. The young girls and boys spend 5 years at all saints and cuba and come PMH talking about they are doctors when in america u need 8-10 yrs to become a doctor. Your passing is sad but it angers me Germaine!!!
So if my neighbor take 5 years to get her bachelors and I got mine in 3 years mine not valid?? How do you know what doctors or nurses were there with her anyway? I guess you were there too…
at anonymous:
you know exactly what I mean by what they said. And to answer you, I know cause it is extended family. facts
No amount of beside care or personal assistance can stop nor prevent death.
OH my friend!! I heard the news but never knew it was you. Goosebumbs all over. RIP dear one. Only God knows. Saddened!!
RIP dear, this troubled world is not our final home.
Some of us fly home, younger, than others

ANONYMOUS,give somebody a CHANCE. ALL U FREAKING DOING . STUPES
Was so shocked and sad to hear this horrible news coming in to work this morning. You did a lot of work with us and you were a wonderful person. Rest in eternal peace my friend.
May the Lord shine his light upon you as He paves your way towards him.
I am so saddened. Something is going on at the PMH! How is it possible that so many people die after having surgery at the PMH. Mr. PM and the health officials need to take this seriously.
@ Zane,I stand by you…..There have been too many deaths at the PMH!!!! The health authorities should take these warnings signs into serious considerations….Somthing is not rights…..The hospital is in a degrading state and needs renovations or a entirely new foundations….The surroundings environment both inside and out is in a unhealthy situations….it needs the attentions of the health minister and people’s involved in looking out fir the best interest of the Dominicans people’s….To many mysterious deaths are go uncalled for!,…
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased…My sympathy and deepest condolences to you…God guidance and strengths in this trying times…. May she rest in peace! ..
as men by Mr. Henderson, she was suffering from cancer. pmh has nothing to with it. in mighty America people die, even with all their expertise and equipment, they also die in cuba where we have good doctors. once something go wrong is to blame someone. yes some more attention need to be given on certain mishap, but is not all incident that happen to blame the hospital. a friend of mine left here to go make her baby overseas, because she felt our doctor is not good enough, and guess what! she lost the baby. what then the doctor did not do his job properly. when the door knock darling, no matter where you are it is time to open and go, and we do not know when that door will knock. May Mrs Phillip soul r.i.p and her family be hold strong.
I work with sick patients everyday and the doctors cant do anything for their medical situation they are transfer to the hospice program for comfort in their last days so people die any where even in the USA where you get the best in medical treatment and up to date technology
that is true but Zane is saying that because she knows the full story of this particular case. Everything you said is true but proper care and attn needs to be given after surgery…esp when people have issues like HBP/LBP or high sugar levels. Somethings can definitely be prevented

Yes, i do know the facts of the case. Germaine DID NOT have terminal cancer. She had stage 2 breast cancer and according to the doctors successful amputation if the breast (a very common and simple medical perovedure). She was so fine after surgery that the morning she died she was allowed by the nurses and doctors to go to the bathroom to bathe by herself. She collapsed coming out of the shower but there was no one to give her medical attention.
No one knows the hour of death, but dont say Germaine died of cancer cause she did not. If she had there would be no reason to have an autopsy on the body – which has been ordered.
I am not casting blame on anyone, but if you cant agree that our hospital in Dominica needs help, then in my opinion you are either blind, naive, too politically biased or you dont love Dominicans.
We need better health care at the PMH and in Dominica in general.
Do you know that the infant mortality rate in Dominica is 30% because of insufficient resources at the PMH?
I dont have the stats on other deaths at the PMH, but this year alone, I know of 11 people who did not leave the PMH alive because of inadequate medical resources. Not to mention those i dont know and we are not even 7 months into the year.
So yes, i demand more from Mr. PM and the health officials. .
May your soul rest in peace, and may God strengthen and keep your family.
My condolences to the family. Hold strong!
R.I.P Germaine…
