Investigators at the scene of the incident

Police say they are investigating the sudden death of 54 year old Wayne “Balou” Adrien of Pointe Michel.

Adrien was found dead in his house this afternoon.

Police had to shoot and kill a dog which belonged to Adrien to gain entry into the premises.

A source close to the dead man told DNO that his body did bear a number of scratches, however police have not concluded that the man was mauled by dog.

DNO is following the story and will bring you more information as it becomes available.

R.I.P my darling husband Wayne Hansen Dominique Adrien,I will always love and missed you. No one shall take your place within my heart for my heart belongs to you and you only. You was planning on coming up to St.Maarten to be with me, your wife, on the 2nd of July where we would spent our fifth wedding anniversary together on the 4th July but God had other plans and so he called you to his place of rest. Love you forever my darling .

My sympathy to his wife and family ,that he passed away . may god give you guys strength throughout your time of grief . you guys can have piece of mind now, knowing the the dog was trying his best to wake him , Dogs are Man’s best friend believe that .

I knew that the dog didn’t kill my husband because the dog was very protective when comes to my husband. When my husband and I leave the village and get into the home because I do not live in Dominica but comes down every time to visit my husband, he would have to hold the dog so I could get into the house. There was a bound between the dog and my husband.

we in Dominica most are all basically thieves. we must guard our homes with PitBulls and Rutweilerz. If u see what they did to the Coconut Bitch Hotel. they stripped the poor hotel clean like animals they are. we must keep ferocious dogs to guard our property. If not they will tief u an all. Poor wayne had to keep such a dog to guard his property from Volehz and dogs and tievess dogs tievess.

Something is telling me the dog was trying to wake it’s master up.Dogs are very loyal. It would have remained sitting there till that body rot,but it would never leave. The man may have died of natural causes and the dog was trying to wake him up.I have read similar stories.Just me saying.Dogs are smart animals.

    June 11, 2013

The dog died doing what it was being fed to do guard the yard. Maybe the stratches on de man was from the dog trying to wake him up when he died. If they had to shoot the dog to get near him I don’t think the dog killed him. The police officers did what was necessary to gain access to help the gentleman. Stop critising the police like that.

Its pathetic “truth offends”. Dominica and most dumbnicans are stuck in 70’s way of thinking. Some even further back than that. there is no evidence that the dog attacked its owner. Secondly how can you kill a dog to gain entrance into the compound. there was no other way. ya’ll need to wake up in this backward country. thats why we always take three steps backwards before we can take half a step forward. i have owned american pitbulls mind u all my life and not one ever attacked me. They play with my kids all the time. the youngest child being 2 years of age. unsupervised.. Never judge the dog before you know how the owner was taking care of that animal.

      June 11, 2013

i agree with you 100% , they could have brought a vet with them to tranquilize the dog or bring someone from the Humane Society to control the dog . Usually you have to capture the dog and do test on it to prove it was the killer and then you put it to sleep if it’s the case . i always say our police are trigger happy . I thought we had a canine unit here ? Dominicans on a whole needs to be educated about the treatment of animals . A dog is truly and really Mans best friend.

    • June 11, 2013

I understand you loud and clear. My husband had loved his dog very much, he used to talk to it like a child , he always feed it properly and his dogs loved him. Heba was very protective over my husband and no one not even me his wife Heba would want to come near him. Heba would never kill my husband but it was on the porch protecting the house for us. I understand the police had to kill the dog to get assest to get inside the house.

Thanks to everyone who sympathizes with the family especially who gave their comments about this dreadfully moments of the passing of my husband Wayne Adrien. I am still heart saddened by his passing and i know he did not just gie like this but I have gone and check and whoever did this will surely pay for it, the land, house and money will be there but they will meet with our heavenly father and ask him for his forgiveness. You and the others will die worst than my husband and you will speak loud for everyone to know the bad thing you have done to your own blood. Don’t worry the time will come when you will talk and everyone will know your dirty work. Wayne did not die of a heartache but obeah is one thing and God will is another. What is yours will always be yours and if you have to get wayne belongings and God says it is yours then no one can take it away from you. Don;t try to hate me because I am God’s child and I have no grievances against anyone,I am pure at heart and firm.

Yes it is so sad for them to kill the dog, my husband would never wants that but who would take care of it? only one person I know of and that is his friend Brian. I am afraid of it and my husband always tells me if anything give it to Brain or call the police and let them shoot it. Ilove Heba but I was too afraid to go near it when my husband wanted it to get accustom with me.The matter for me now is not the dog but I am worried and concern about my dead husband and that what matters for me right now.

Waw, waw, waw, Dominica police! Why did you kill an innocent dog? Did the dog commit a crime or it just shows pure lack of respect for life? That’s why I love the USA because life is important whether it is that of a duck or a cat. In fact not to long a famous football star was jailed for dog fight; yet in Dominica the police killing a dog the same day the owner was found dead in his house, just to gain entry? How sad! How unprofessional! You mean to tell me is bad the dog bad so? Ok, assuming the dog was barking at the officers, did they really have to kill it to gain entry? You mean to tell me there was no one in the neighbourhood or village the dog knew that the police could ask to hold it or tie it? It is sad that the owner was found dead and may his soul rest in piece but for them corps to kill his dog to gain entry into his premises, makes a sad situation even sadder. When I was growing up as a young star my parents would not let me kill a lizard because according to them, lizards carried water Jesus. We could not kill a dog because if we did, whether by accident or wickedness they would tell us that we would get gion (or be cursed). Maybe one of the reasons why so many evils are visiting our shores these days might just be because of the manner we treat innocent animals and people.

    • June 10, 2013

Truth, it is true that in the U.S. they “worship” their animals, but the opposite is true with respect to humans. They will treat a homeless and even foreigners like you like a dog. So don’t try to compare the good ole USA with Dominica in this case. I am not saying everyone in the U.S. is bad, but animals are more highly esteemed than people here.

De Humane society? Dominica have dat nah?

Oh boy, what a way to make my exit from commenting on DNO! Lot’s of thumbs down eh. I still hold to my view that a dog should not be short and killed just for police to go and investigate a death. If that’s what they had to do to save a life then I would understand; but for an investigation, sorry find other means first.
Anyways, thanks for all the good and bad things you guys had to say. I fully believe in freedom of speech and expression especially when we respect each other’s opinions, though we might not always agree.
DNO, thanks for the few comments from truth offends you published although you always rejected a good 55% of my comments especially when I tried to call it as I see it, particularly as it pertains to the government and their questionable corrupt behaviors. In fact is because of your many rejections I decided to call it quit on your site because like I said, I believe in freedom of expression as long as people’s rights are not being violated, cannot be sued, and respect for others which I was very careful about. So truth offends will not offend anymore.

What do you know? You say life is important in the USA yet millions of babies, future children, adults and citizens are aborted in the USA and more to come. Abortion doctors make a mint murdering them in their mothers’ wombs and Obama does nothing to protect the unborn. They love dogs/animals more than babies/human beings. This includes Canada and no doubt Europe. God will hold them accountable for this one day. Much more could be stated about that.
You have no sense. The police had no alternative but to kill the dog. It was a bad dog and it would be either them or the dog and vice versa. You should know that dogs know their owners. They will not bite them. When others visit, the owner would have to tell the dog to keep quiet and tie it up to avoid it biting and injuring them.
ho would go near that dog if it is a bad one and its owner is dead? It would have been difficult to catch it and muzzle it. Who would want it anyway? Did you not give this a thought? Does this not make sense to you?
Anyway the owner is dead he will not miss the dog. Who would have taken care of that bad dog?
It is too bad they do not know you, since you have such a bleeding heart for the dog, they should have called you to take care of it. See how far you would get with it.

I understand the sistuation to an extenet where the police had to get rid of the dog in order to effectively carry out the investigations but could it mean that the man had a heart attack and fell and the Dog tried to do something to get his attention so he could wake up.

Could it also mean that a thief entered the house. We need hear what the pathologist is saying. We also need bring back the days of police having dogs. The police dog would attract the dead man;s dog and in the process the police would catch the dead man dog and take it some place because Dominica does not even have the suitable place for dogs in such circumstances and our police officer these days are not even trained in that area anymore.

There are several things that could lead to the man’s death let give the dog the benefit of the dout

That sound suspicious. I was not there, but I don’t think the dog killed the man. Maybe he died naturally, and dogs are so smart trying to wake him up by scratching or biting him. Then when people came around it got angry that its owner is gone. SO SAD. Hope the examiner will give the family comforting answers, that it was murder and it was natural causes. Sorry for the loss of another young man. RIP.

    June 10, 2013

RIP Sir. We need to get our police officers trained in animal behaviour. People, we have all been mislead. The poor dog did not kill or bite its master, the man died unfortunately, but nobody does not know the cause as yet, any animal (i.e. domestic pet) would stand by its master especially in the case of the dog, the reason no one heard or saw the dog in the day in which the man was probably dead, was because the dog was at his side and it was probably even more protective when the police or people came into the house looking for man. Its master is dead, the poor animal did not know it was just determined to protect its master. To justify why the killed the dog, they will say it attacked them. People the dog did not maul or bite its master. Did not see the reason the dog had to be shot, trigger happy police offices smh. Poor dog!!!

“Man found dead police killed his dog.” They are both dead. Dog may have had clues to its owner’s death. Is his cat still alive?

The dog was the only ‘one’ that saw what happened, but now……it’s dead too!

    • June 11, 2013

IT appears that i am the only one who noticed breaking news; “dog kill man at point mitchel” only to come back a short while later to say police investigating sudden death of 54 years old wayne balou adriene of point michel i find that to be very unprofessional.journalism. in this day and age the whole world is watching your imput on the http://www.can whoever is responsible for reporting these stories must step up there game because mediocrity of there reporting before u bring out a story you should have the facts straight before bringing that out to the world and haveing us looking stupid.

Before this particular online-news reporters hear quack they running to report, not even taking time to clarify if it was really a duck that made the quack. They just don’t wait to get the facts straight. They tired get blows for that, yet they still not changing their style.

You must be an idiot….that is how it happens when there is breaking news or developing stories.

When they had the shooting at the school in the US, CNN and all the other news organization said the young man shot his mother at the school. Only in the afternoon was it revealed that he killed his mother at their home….when news are developing these things happen….there is confusion and even the authorities give wrong info.

That is why there are updates….think before all u speak

Very sad but I don’t believe that the man was killed by the dog. The dog was trying to wake the man when it saw that the man was not responding. Saw something just like that on Dr G medical examiner

Pitbulls are a dangerous breed and should be banned, like in the U.K., period.

Humans kill more humans than pit bulls in a single year ok. Pit bulls a very miss understood dogs . all dogs can bite and kill . Educated yourself .

This is rediculous. Why kill the dog. A non lethal means of capture – a tranquilizer.

Rip sir. you alone know what happened. Very sad situation. Stay strong family and friends. By the way, a dog is a man’s best friend so dont even try to think bout the dog having anything to do with it.

Well am hopeful that that the dog was not involved. Early statements had me really worried it was the dog’s doing.
No matter what caused his death he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family must hold on strong in faith
