CANEFIELD DROWNING: The search has not been called off – Weekes

Search continues for Micael Okwan Mitchel

Twelve days later and the search continue for 17-year-old Micael Okwan Mitchel of Fond Cole who went missing in the Boeri River in Canefield on the stormy afternoon of Sunday, September 19.

Police spokesman Claude Weekes said the search has not been called off.

The young man’s mother Bankley Cuffy remains at a loss as to the whereabouts of her son’s possible remains. Police spokesman Claude Weekes said the boy is presumed dead and that the search is ongoing by the police, coast guard, fire department and SSU and ambulance personnel.

Mitchel went missing while attempting to cross the Boeri River with friends. He was last in the line. His friends told his mother they watched him get swept away by the strong current after he lost his balance.

His mother was informed of the incident between 5 and 6 pm on that dreadful evening. She last saw her son alive about 11:00 that morning.

it is possible that he could be washed away by the river depending on the currant…tooo many of us think we know it all we cant sit there blaming the other kids for something that could be nature’s doing, we watching too much csi and all these crime shows…or could it be all the recent killings in DA have our minds working OT…take it ez on the police force they are human beings and the resources in DA aren’t as advances as all the csi shows we have been watching…no one but these kids and God knows wat really happened on that day, i am a mother of a boy to and if this news came to me abt my child i cant imagine wat i would do….jus pray for the mother that God will hold her hand and keep her strong thru this time…if the other boys did something foul..let them be judged by the Almighty…wat happens in the dark comes out in the light it can take a million yrs but something will come out….stop all the negativity and let’s jus pray for our youth and our land

This story doesn’t add up…And I’m sure this young boy mother is not at ease..unless his body is foundd then there is no question to her answer….matter fact of there is no saying what really happen…..he could have been killed and burried…it could have been an accident and the kids were afraid of what would happen and they made a story to cover it up….I honestly don’t believe this story..something about it isn’t right….I’m sure the police are working very hard to solve it..they always do down in Dominica..no matter how long it takes..I know they will solve it…..This mother needs to know how her son life really end……I’m not God, I don’t know what really happen, only God knows,he could have fall into the river but by now he’s body would have showed up, I don’t think his body could have make it to the ocean the river is very rocky. The police needs to get divers to search the deep parts of the river, search along the river banks…if they ain’t find him in there …then they need to change the subject of their investigation

And as if is all you alone that have brain…is all you alone that could think …”hmmm, I do believe this is suspicious.” As if Dominica police never see a classroom or their brain waves dead.

To really concern????? I started reading your blog and agree with you in part some how i dectect you mean well and you`re annoyed as most of us especially, the many, many former police officers residing abroad. But! let me remind you just because we read comments some for, and some against the police Department, which is evey body`s right to express themself ,for we still live in a democratic country,be mind ful of the fact unless we have proof that certain comments orginate from Dominicans living over seas we cannot assume such for there are even Police officers serving presently, and in some cases they too travel overseas and the possibility of those with grievances its easy for them to critize the very Department in which they serve remember its a dog eat dog World we living in therefore, bare in mind its easy for any body to hide behind their computer any where in the World and post blogs purporting to be writing from overseas just a word of advise to those who think like you. I cant resist but!;to say some of the crazy comments leveled against the police from certain people is their way of letting us know that some thing is bothering them in my days it used to be because most of my detractors lost their GiRLFRIENDS who left them and came to me obviously for protection and lots of wood i could not expect any thing good coming from them cause i felt their loss otherwise i had to watch for those who were on the borderline of becoming criminals or harbouring persons of questionable charter i hpoe “CONFUSED” is reading this. Take care and lets love Dominica and stop the hate play your part help the police so you can live in peace for when they come for them in Daylight they might come for you in the night. Who you gonna call? THE POLICE OFCOURSE!

It’s not only in Dominica things like this happen alothough it is very awkward how the child disappeared….it seems like alot of you guys watch too much CSI and Criminal Minds, I am sure the police are questioning those boys, not everything will end up in the papers if they are doing there jobs properly, to much speculations make people panic and judgemental.

It seems to me that some of you people leave Dominica and still behaving like nuisance overseas.

The Police in Dominica have one of the highest crime solving rates in the Caribbean. You all just sit where ever the hell you are talking as if the Police don’t know what they are doing.

Is that the first time all you see a computer? People are reading these comments around the world. You guys are acting like ‘air heads’.

If you have nothing good to say about your country, keep your long mouth shut.

How possible is it that the body made it to the ocean? considering all the rough terrain of the river?
How many miles away from the ocean were they?
It’s just not adding up. Who are these kids? Have the police ran a background check on them?
The police needs to work harder at this. Invest in a tracking device, make a dummie with the same height and weight of this kid, wait for a stormy day and release it into the river. See what the end results will be.

    October 1, 2010

    @Alicia
Have been thinking the same thing. But alas, I wonder if our law enforcement officers thought of that.I wonder if they even try to corroborate the story the young boys gave them.Nowadays you can no longer take things at face value.
WISE UP OFFICERS-PRICK YOURSELVES AND ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS.THERE SHOULD BE A WEAK LINK TO TARGET.
