Carbon monoxide responsible for Dominican’s family death in Guadeloupe

Autopsy reports have confirmed that carbon monoxide poisoning caused the death of a Dominican family in Guadeloupe.

According to Clayton Florent, Dominica News Online’s Guadeloupe correspondent, the French authorities are suspicious of the fact that an entire generator unit was inside the house.

The funeral of the three individuals is set for Tuesday.

A father, his son and daughter were discovered dead in his Guadeloupe home on Monday, November 8. They were partly decomposed to a point that the authorities placed time of death at sometime at around November 5.

The family hails from Lower Penville.

Dominica News Online understands that at least one of the man’s children had lived with their grandmother in the French island and was with their father on the weekend when the incident occurred.

I am saddened to hear about their deaths. May their souls rest in peace.
A generator should never have been in the house. It should have been outside, in the yard. He may have had one as an air-conditioner and it was faulty.
Generally, in Canada and to my knowledge generators are utilized in the event a bad winter storm occurs and the lights go off for hours even for days. Few people have them but they are necessary at a time as this.
There is also central air-conditioning which is installed in the furnace. Furnaces are necessary in winter for heating. Carbon monoxide could seep from the furnace to radiators throughout the residence. It is a silent, dangerous killer. The residents could be sleeping and may not be aware of it and not even if they are awake. This has caused some deaths.
A few years ago in winter a family who lived in a house died while they were asleep due to carbon monoxide poisoning which originated from their furnace.
It is the Law, mandatory to install fire alarms in all houses and apartments. Fire alarms are to be checked at least twice a year.
For those who reside in apartments, the landlord is expected to inspect the alarms twice a year. Those who reside in houses are advised to do likewise also when the clock is turned back and forward one hour in spring and in the fall – autumn. They are advised to change the batteries of those alarms. That is the Law. Protection of life is important and serious.
I recently heard that the government is in the process of making it mandatory that special carbon monoxide alarms be installed in every house and apartment in this city which will alert the residents in the event carbon monoxide seeps into those accommodations.
I have never heard that faulty air-conditions killed anyone.
There is a tendency in the islands to take these matters lightly and/or ignore them. I do hope that the French government investigates the cause of this deadly incident.
In fact, since the deceased are Dominicans, the Dominican government should contact the French government about it.

@Anonymous: My thoughts exactly. He may not have willfully killed himself and his children but is because of putting the complete unit inside. Why? Was his electricity included in his rent and that was a form of using more electricity and not paying for it? My condolences to those left to mourn.

Carbon monoxide is dangerous because you cannot smell it. I am aware of a police family and the children dying the same way.
MAY THEIR SOULS REST + IN + PEACE

This is serious. These days Dominicans and many people playing ‘fresh’ and prefer air condition versus fresh breeze. I am sorry to hear what happened to this family. We are hurting ourselves and we hurting the environment at the same time. Let us use this as an example.
