Dominican victim of violent mugging in Antigua recovering slowly

Azoo said to be recovering slowly in an Antigua hospital

Seventeen-year-old Jahhym Azoo, who barely survived a violent mugging in Grays Farm on Thursday September 5th, 2019, is said to be slowly recovering.

His mother, Odiel Furlong has been told by nurses at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) that her son is responsive. Furlong though, has not yet spoken with her son as he is mostly asleep.

At the time of publication, she was attempting to speak with her son’s doctors to find out whether any of his internal head injuries would produce long term effects.

On Tuesday, doctors removed Azoo’s bandages, revealing the 19 staples that had been affixed to his head by specialist doctors from Trinidad and Tobago when they attempted life-saving surgery over the weekend. Last Sunday morning, doctors operated on his head and were able to successfully control the bleeding in his brain. Azoo then underwent another surgery in an attempt to repair the severe damage to his face. According to his mother, the entire row of her son’s bottom teeth was knocked out.  Some of the teeth were discovered inside his nose.  Azoo’s nose and jaws also had to be wired during facial surgery.

The family of Azoo has already been given a hospital bill of $29,731.48 reflective of medical care from the day he was admitted to MSJMC to Monday. Furlong told OBSERVER the family anticipates more bills to come.

When the 17-year-old was taken to the MSJMC, he was reported as unresponsive and was placed on life support in the Intensive Care Unit.

Doctors had given him a 50 percent chance of survival due to the bleeding on his brain.

So, Ti Garcon, you think he should have given his slippers and phone to the muggers? Yeah, he could have done that but where would that get him? What would be next, would they continue to harass him and take his personal items whenever they felt like it? How many of them can wear one pair of slippers and use the one phone. They are just wicked evil young men who need the love of Jesus in their hearts. I pray that they would change their lives and that restitution would be made to the victim.

For the sake of my nephews in Dominica and young men, wherever they are, I pray that by God’s Will those five sons of the devil will be found and incarcerated miserably, for the rest of their days in this World.

Want to wish the young man a full recovery. The government of Dominica should speak up and out on this particular matter. Justice must be served. Those hooligans must not escape the hands of the law.

I know I will be redly battered for saying this – In Dominica, he would have stood no chance for survival, not even in the Phase 1/8 CDCFH

Anansi, you are perfectly right. Too many Dominicans are mortally afraid of the TRUTH. I hope the young man pulls through. He would have been definitely deceased in Dominica. The TRUTH is inconvenient for diehard supporters of the incompetent regime.

The government of Antigua has not spoken out, they should be paying for the bill not the family, and be compensated once the 5 cowards are caught.

the kid was willing to die for a pair of slippers and a phone that would go out of style by next year. Believe it or not, these kinda situations are normal. Young boys buying brand name clothing like Lacoste for attention from their peers or young ladies, but every now and then there’s haters who want to rob you of your stuff. Even slyders they stealing on man. And i know plenty fellas that gave up their stuff, to avoid problem and they learn how to roll or just not invest in attracting attention via material stuff. Every now and then kids are willing to fight back and get their beating.

I’m not saying the voleh had any right, i’m saying that every action has consequences and there’s no right and wrong. Is this kid, after months in the hospital, going to beat his chest saying he was right- given the costs? Too much dumb young boys willing to die for a gold chain or even worse- their ‘respect’.

Let his mother pay the bill.

        Padner are you hearing yourself???
So are you saying that for the sake of “voleh” everyone must wear raggedy clothes and shoes???
I like how you put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the victim (heavy sarcasm here).
You have yet to address the social problem of gangs or the thug/mob mentality today in our youth.
For that matter did it ever occur to you that the young man may have been defending his property because they may been gifts from loved ones? Or did it even occur to you that whether or not he had given up his belongings willingly, he STILL may have been beaten to a pulp?
So GTFOH with your BS about every action has consequences! You should be yelling for justice for the youngblood, not disparaging his solid defense of his belongongs!
        Chah man!

I so agree with you Amarossa!!! This fool is putting the blame on this young man, how dare him??? Maybe he has family or he himself is involved in this type of brutality. The government should pay for his bill until these beasts are found and then make them or their families pay!!!
