Police have confirmed that 36 year-old Valena Stoute of Marigot, died as a result of an accident which occurred in Marigot on Tuesday afternoon where a cement truck collided with a Honda HR-V SUV.
According to the information received, three other occupants of the vehicle at the time of the accident were seriously injured and have been admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).
More information will be provided as soon it becomes available.
Another accident also occurred at One Mile in Portsmouth today where a bus slammed into a tree. No serious injuries have been reported.
u doh notice that the hrv is driving UP THE HILL and the oil is below the HRV the oil u see flowed down from the accident scene to where u can see it that oil was not there before the accident its directly leaking from the truck and the HRV maybe you should listen to me i was there at the scene and that oil u see is from the 2 vehicles involved in the accident not from any other source . if the hrv was driving down the hill you would be right but rethink ur calculation and come again you kno oil flows down a slop not up it and the oil u se is from the 2 vehicles in the accident not from any other source
While accidents and fatalities will occur, we need to continuously examine road safety and road design on island. Looking at the bus slammed into a mango tree, tells me that there are no guard-rails on that stretch of road. Drivers have a much greater chance of survivability if their vehicles remain upright during accidents. Adding guard-rails diminishes the probability of being speared by sharp objects such as bridge railings with sharp protruding edges and solid objects such as trees.
Anthony, Am I to understand that you saying there should be guard rails on most of Dominica roads? To prevent fatal accidents, you must be having a laugh. I have driven on many occasions in rural areas in the UK and Europe without seeing guard rails around trees except on dangerous bends, having said that it is the drivers responsibility to focus on the roads . And that rubbish drivers having their vehicles windscreen and windows darken up that want to be addressed it’s putting people lifes in danger!!!!
I think rental vehicles, trucks over 10 tons, and buses/ taxis should have a governor installed. For those who aren’t aware, governors put a limit on the max speed a vehicle could go, eg 50mph. This is one solution to this speeding problem, which is particularly rampant with rental ‘HR-V’ users.
Another efficient solution would be police officers getting commissions on speed tickets and other traffic violations. As is, police never patrol the streets, and as we are a small society, no one police officer is gonna give their ‘friend/family/potential flex’ a ticket.
Written exams for drivers licences could also help.
Of course we can just continue to cry rivers whenever these fatalities happen, as its God’s will and the dead are always innocent. Or changes are made to increase safety on the streets- there are usually 2-3x more road fatalities than murders yet we as a people never point out as a topic of importance.
My sympathy to the family of Ms Stoute.
Let me just try to draw some attention to another “accident in waiting” with these large Dominica Strong trucks that I find along the Newtown to Loubiere route. These trucks are driven like they are moto bikes. Sometimes I encounter 4 or 5 of these trucks in sequence like they appear to be racing. It is so scary! Please Dominica Strong drivers, be cautious on the road. Any collision with these trucks will surely cause death and I pray that no family has to go through this. I don’t want to die like this. If anyone has the contact number for Dominica Strong, please post it if you can so that I can make a personal call to appeal to them to drive more cautiously.
Oh no. My prayers to the family and friends of the deceased. I pray for the physical, mental and emotional healing of the people involved in this accident and their families.
But what she doing on the wrong side of the road They don’t teach people how to drive properly man? It’s a corner stay on the left side of the road. Where was she going for her to 3nd up on the trucks side?
I was asking myself the same thing when i saw the photos she is on the wrong side of the road
You might be surprised how easy it is for something to go wrong that would have the vehicle move from one side of the road to the other. It’s not usually as logical as it may look. Looking at the wet surface of the road along with a notable amount of oil/diesel like substance on the already wet surface, it’s very possible that the driver lost control of the vehicle after it may have slid on the “oily” and wet surface. I’ve had it happen to me. With the amount of heavy equipment and vehicles on the road these days, a lot of spillage is occurring making already dangerous wet road conditions worst.
I may be wrong but it is my suspicion.
you do realise that the oil you see on the road is from the truck that is involved in the accident right? the oil is flowing down the hill from the truck
magway ca, I am referring to picture 2 of 3, the oil on the road is well above the accident. The truck and the HR-V are wrecked bellow that, suggesting the point that the HR-V lost control might have been up around in the area of the oil and moved to the other side of the road from there.
u doh notice that the hrv is driving UP THE HILL and the oil is below the HRV the oil u see flowed down from the accident scene to where u can see it that oil was not there before the accident its directly leaking from the truck and the HRV maybe you should listen to me i was there at the scene and that oil u see is from the 2 vehicles involved in the accident not from any other source . if the hrv was driving down the hill you would be right but rethink ur calculation and come again you kno oil flows down a slop not up it and the oil u se is from the 2 vehicles in the accident not from any other source
My deepest sympathies to the family of Ms Stoute. I pray the other passengers recover from their injuries.
So without a MARIGOT HOSPITAL,the injured had to be taken to Roseau??? That’s why the Skerrit gang of MISLEADERS shall soon be voted out of office, and put into political oblivion..You can’t have heartless, inconscionable, wicked and devilish souls doing such high level mischief to a people …
