“Not Haiti again,” were the words of Catholic Priest Father Franklyn Cuffy following Tuesday’s devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake.
Cuffy, a member of a number of humanitarian organizations in Dominica, said a decision was taken following the earthquake to donate proceeds of some upcoming events to victims in Haiti.
“We have our peace concert on January 22, 2009 and we are hoping that they can make a contribution to Haiti. We are hoping to have a special fundraiser on March 5, 2009 at our Community House in Belfast and all the monies collected will go to Haiti. For the last 200 years there has been civil unrest in that part of the world. In 2008 they had four hurricanes. It’s very painful when these things happen. It could happen to us in Dominica,” he said.
Cuffy said this is a time for the world to come together to assist the devastated country.
