Haitian women living in Dominica have been offered free counseling from the Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW).
DNCW President Josephine Dublin Prince says the council realizes the importance of supporting the Haitian community, particularly the women, throughout this ordeal.
“We are concerned about the plight of the Haitian people and we are standing in solidarity with them. As a women’s organization, we are concerned about the women and their children,” she explained.
“We have decided that as a management committee that we are encouraging members to give to the cause through various mediums. We have decided to offer our counseling services, but it would have to be through appointments because we realize that there have been a lot of requests for very important tangible things. But, we are concerned about those Haitians living here, particularly the women who have lost children and loved ones in Haiti and those that are suffering from within,” she said.
According to the DNCW official, a team of counselors have been assigned to assist with therapy.
“They need to speak to someone, so that they can take them through their suffering. If they need to cry out then we are there and we are offering them a shoulder to cry on,” Prince added.
