The family of 26-year-old Neil Karam is finalizing preparations for his funeral which is scheduled for tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
Neil’s older brother Father Nigel Karam told Dominica News Online that a private vigil will take place at 6:30 tonight at the family’s residence.
He recalled Neil’s qualities and described him as a “fun loving guy”.
“He loved life and he loved people and he was into technology and IT. Basically he was a very good decent human being; he would talk to anybody and make them feel worthy,” Fr. Karam said.
Many family members from Guadeloupe, Antigua and the United States are expected to attend the funeral, according to the deceased’s uncle, Johnny ‘DJ Jokam’ Karam.
Johnny said words cannot describe the great person his nephew was.
“He was jovial; always cracking jokes, very pleasant, very polite one thing, not because he is my nephew I’m saying so. He was very intelligent especially in the repairing of cell phones, computers; he was a computer whiz that’s for sure. He loved fast cars,” he stated.
Neil was employed as a senior information technologist at Clear Harbour Call Centre.
Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Claude Weekes reported that Neil was a passenger on a Toyota Celica car being driven by Clinton Titre when he died in the early hours of December 30, 2009 morning.
“At the time of the accident the car was being driven in a southerly direction on the Goodwill Public Road, within close proximity of the Public Works Department. According to traffic investigators, the car is believed to have struck one of the light poles, reducing it to a total wreck,” the police PRO explained.
Johnny Karam said Neil was assisting a carpenter with repairs on their residence when he was called by Titre to accompany him for a test drive.
“What actually happened, he was already at his home at about 11:30 p.m. He had just come from work and doing some repairs to his father’s steps of the house, getting the house ready for Christmas with one of the carpenters when we were told that his friend Clinton came to come and ask him to test drive his new car. That was the story we got,” he explained.
Following Karam’s death, his Clear Harbour colleagues aired a radio tribute for him as well.
The funeral will take place at the Roseau Roman Catholic Cathedral.

R.I.P Neil, you will be missed!!!!! Muah!!
Sincere Condolences to those who mourn.
Neil was a sweet child, one who was easy to keep a friend
and always put a smile to ones face. I still have to ask myself
why it had to happen this way? To his family and close friends,
may your hearts regain the strenght that it requires, because
this is not easy to bare with. my sympathy goes out to his immediate
family and god bless your hearts. To Neil, may your soul rest
in peace for you’re in a better place where you will be looked over. And to
the young drivers out there: “it’s not the speed that your feet can apply, that
makes you a driver, is how accurate you are and how you can keep your life
from being wrecked!!” “Drive wisely”
PEACE & LOVE!!!
The family is going to need all the strength they can for tomorrow. God be with you all. I am praying for you all. Hold strong. I know no words can heal your pain or make you feel better. No time can heal wounds when you lose someone so close and so tragic, so sudden. God alone knows your pain. The emptiness you may feel inside, especially his mother and father. God bless you and watch over you all. To the rest of the karam family, I know you too are feeling the loss of your brother, cousin, nephew, grandson, all i can say is keep close to one another and be there for one another through this. May God bless you all, and keep you safe in his loving care.
Rest in peace Neil Karam, and be an angel to your family.
i remember you during our early school days-always so joyful. i’m grateful that you lived.
Rest In Peace Neil.. Sad, Very Sad Indeed…..
PEACE!!!
Rest in peace Neil. To the families and friends draw your strength from God. He promise never to leave us nor forsake us. It’s hard having to lose a loved one at such a tender age, but in everything you must give him thanks even at this difficult period. Keep your eyes on JESUS. Call on his name he’ll bring comfort to your hearts.
