Haitians in Dominica prepare for travel to homeland

Haitian businessman Petit-Louis Acceus

A Haitian businessman residing in Dominica is making arrangements to rally a contingent of Haitians to travel to their homeland in the wake of a major earthquake.

“Up to now I not yet get any of my family in Haiti,” Owner of Kings Garments Petit-Louis Acceus told Dominica News Online.

Haitians in Dominica have been trying to reach their families and friends in Haiti following a 7.3 magnitude earthquake, which was centered about 14 miles west of the Port-au-Prince capital, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Acceus, who also holds Dominican citizenship, confirmed that since the earthquake there has been a communication problem.

However, one of his Haitian employees has already learnt of the death of family members. Acceus and his other employees who have their families in Haiti are very concerned since they have not received word from their families since the earthquake.

“I trying to organize myself with some people from Dominica. I going to have a meeting to discuss what we have to do. I am a [Dominican] citizen so I can travel … it’s better I go up in Haiti … if I get a [group] with me to see how it is already, to see how we can assist them … I think that would be a good idea also … we have priests in Dominica, we have pastors I talk to them already.

“We have a Haiti association in Dominica, but they’re not very organized …I’m not looking for my business, only I’m looking for my people because we have a lot of family in Haiti, we have a lot of problems… we try to come together today to have a meeting to take a decision to see how we can assist Haiti,” Acceus explained.

He recalled a very destructive hurricane in Haiti which claimed the lives of many residents.

“Now is God only that can do something for Haiti in that matter because we have a lot of problems … not long a hurricane pass in Haiti and a lot of people die … all the office of the President break, the hospital break, a lot of big building break already. I am from Haiti so I do my investigations… I know how big those buildings be so imagine … we have heard a lot of people die already,” he lamented.

Tuesday’s earthquake was followed by two strong aftershocks with magnitudes of 5.9 and 5.5, and residents said that the aftershocks were continuing at eight to 10 minute intervals.

“This is actually the largest earthquake we have seen in the last 200 years in this region. There has not been an magnitude six earthquake since the 1970s,” said geophysicist Julie Dutton attached to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Director of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Representation Office in Haiti, Earl Huntley, said Wednesday he has not been able to make contact with employees following the massive earthquake that rocked the Caribbean country on Tuesday. Haiti has a population of some nine million people.

    To Child of God:

I just want to say thanks to you for making the apology.

It really is not in any of our interests to be fighting each other unnecessarily.

I look forward to all the positive contributions you will be making to DNO in the future.

To all the staff at DNO,

It is very disturbing to see you suffering such abuse.

Your editorial rules are valid and helpful in maintaining the good quality of this site. If there were no rules and people were just allowed to publish anything, the site would be overwhelmed by crass comments and hateful intentions, which in turn would drive away reasoned and objective discussion. I don’t think one person should be allowed to degrade the good reputation of this site.

I hear people blaming the youth frequently for all sorts of things. Well, what message would we sending to the young and impressionable persons who visit this site, if comments like that were the order of the day?

‘Child of God’s’ writing express’ negativity, hate, violence and vindictiveness. He/she also does not appear to understand the meaning of the word ‘edit’. What kind of God has followers like that?

Please,’Child of God’ if you are reading this, find some goodness in your heart to write an apology to DNO for your behavior. We should all be making an effort to get on with each other.

Please DNO, don’t allow yourselves to be intimidated by such bullying tactics. Your work is extremely valuable to Dominica.

    Dear Admin:
Thank you very much for the hard work that you do, especially in bringing us news of the devastation in Haiti.

It is also good to know that not all ‘children of God” behave and speak in the manner that “Child of God,Saint Paul Mission,New York” did. And praying that a curse falls on someone doesn’t necessarily mean it will. The God I know does not work in this manner.

The tongue (in this case the PC) truly is a deadly weapon; with it we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.
My brothers, this should not be!

FROM admin: I saw your “jack___” response cursing us and accusing us of not approving your comment. Mister you should be aware by now that we have other things to do other than approving comments. It is obvious that if you sent a comment and it is not approved as yet, it means it is in the works to be approved. Even the site tells you that. After reading your senseless comment, we checked all the comments waiting to be approved and found the one you sent. Sir, I hope your curse returns to you and bite you in the butt. I don’t care who says this is unprofessional but I personally take no threat lightly.

Readers for the record, see the comment below that the person sent. We can send you his name and IP address and location on request! (oh and we did approve your comment).

To whoever that not editing what I write,I pray to God that a curse is going to fall on you ,you jackass.I know you will get my point, whenever anything happen to you, just know I am the One that Pray for that curse. You don’t like the Name God,You’re going to call on his Name very soon.I’m going to praying every day for a curse to follow you all the days of you life, until you and DNO put whatever I write with the name GOD.this is a personal message to you.your jackass,I know I wrote it already. You get my point.
    To God be the glory.
