Help on the way for Loubiere fire victims

With some 18 lives affected by a fire in Loubiere on Monday efforts are already underway to assist those in dire need.

Some of those affected have lost everything they own, except the clothes on their backs and UWP candidate for the Roseau South constituency, Joshua Francis, told DNO he is going to do everything in his power to assist.

“Some people here have lost practically everything,” Francis, who was on the scene of the blaze, said.

The fire, whose origin is still under investigation, began around 4:24 pm, completely destroying a wooden building, while others nearby, including a Day Care, suffered serious damages.

The house which was completely destroyed was home to a man, his girlfriend and four children.

They were the hardest hit.

The man was rushed to hospital in shock, Francis told DNO. His condition is unknown at this time.

“When he arrived here, he realized everything was destroyed and it sent him in shock,” he said.

Francis pointed out that the family is going need a lot of help.

“This family is going to need significant assistance,” he said. “The young children are going to need clothes to go to school. The parents are not sure how they going to send their children to school tomorrow because their clothes were damaged, food was destroyed…”

Francis is now making an appeal to all Dominicans to assist the family in whatever way they can.

“Whether it is the provision of clothes, money, technical support and above all prayers and emotional support,” he said.

He said in total some 18 people have been affected by the blaze.

“Some more significantly than others,” he noted saying the children are the most affected.

“They don’t have food, they don’t have clothes,” he remarked. “Praise God we have loving and caring people in Loubiere, so they will have somewhere to sleep tonight. But they are going to need assistance and that is why I am making a special appeal for assistance for them.”

He said he will be facilitating a fund raising drive to assist all those affected.

“So we can restore their lives to normalcy,” Francis said.

Meanwhile MP for the area, Ambrose George, extended sympathy to those affected by the fire.

“I want to extend sympathies to all those who suffered loss following the fire in Loubiere this afternoon,” he wrote on his Facebook page late Monday. “As your parl rep I stand committed to ensuring that you are not alone. While I am overseas, I will immediately visit upon my return home.”

Like Skerrit, came in too young as PM, he killed the country, we in more poverty and he is was NOT a mature person, and still is not. Lennox is more prepared, qualified, honest and competent than Skerrit, with a good track record. Skerrit report card is riddled with LA`s…..Lack`s accountability….C`s corruption, B`s,..bobol….
Please leave Joshua where he is to first get in and then learn and in years to come he will decide.
There is no competition between Lennox and Joshua, both are honest, dedicated, trustworthy gentlemen in a very honest and sincere party, UWP, Team DOMINICA.
The change is to get Skerrit out and replace with a more trustworthy experienced, qualified gentleman, in the person of Lennox Linton.

Who initiated the taking of these pictures and what was really the purpose? Was it necessary that a political contender be part of those pictures. I would assume pictures would be taken to show the damage and the victims so that people would know who the victims are but why is a political contender posing in front of the damage and with the victims. Politicians must learn not to use people tragedies to make political mileage. Common sense people…What does it look like to you?

Have you asked why Dominicans are so dam poor? Have you asked why Skerrit has instilled the begging mentality into about 99.999% of the population?
Did you ask Skerrit to present his passport to the court?

For the genuine individuals who have been asking the question, where is Ambrose George Parliamentary Representative for Roseau South? Mr. George is presently out of state on a private family matter. He will be back soon nd then we will see the difference between action and talk. Mr. Francis like any other person from Loubiere was on the scene and felt for the victims. Like any body else he wishes to assist and has taken action to assist. Nothing’s wrong with that. Mr. George will take and indeed has begun to take action even in his absence. Any aspiring politician who in a situation such as this will not express concern doe snot worth his salt. The differences between Mr. George and Mr. Francis in this situation is that Mr. George is an influential member of Government who canassistin ways better than Mr. Francis. Mr. Francis on the other hand has no influence in his party heirachy, but is seen only as a potential future candidate government to the UWP (insider truths). Like every good and aspiring politician, he can only express concern by identifying with the people, take part in a photo opps and hope that the public will heed calls for assistance to the fire victims. The public will assist not because is Mr. Francis who asked for help, but that is what the Dominican public is like – they will help.

Good thing Mr. Francis is disciplined enough to respect leadership and wont go to see any foreign diplomat in a covert manner.

Interesting that from all the people in Loubiere only one man is concerned for the people who unfortunately lost their home and belongs and it happens to be UWP representative vying for political office. While it may seem honorable I see it more as exploitation of an opportunity to promote a political agenda as is evident of a photo-up with some of the victims. This is unscrupulous on so many fronts! This could either be intentional politicking on part of the report for DNO or the UWP rep himself. The story should reflect the truth, that is many in the community came to the aid of those who were victims of the firer. There was no political favouritism here people did not care whether they were Laborites of UWP supports it was people doing what people should do in times like these. Hope these people get the help they particularly from those who are doing so genuine reasons!

I am baffled by the views expressed above. I wonder if the views expressed would have been the same if it were the PM, or a member of cabinet who was on the scene. As one who has declared his candidacy in the upcoming general, the intent of the candidate is to be of service to his constituency. It is unavoidable that the candidate would not be recognized in any crowd. In fact it would be expected that any news media that appears on the scene would solicit his views at the moment. In my view that’s how politicians are suppose to behave responsibly. In the article it is stated that the parl rep who is out of State has promised to visit the family on his return, and has has also promise his assistance. I would like to believe that if the parl rep was in the country he would have immediately gone to the scene to sympathize, and reaasure his constituents that they are not in this alone. Would you have an issue with this?acebook?

@AsultED I don’t think that after writing your crap on this medium you still had the brazeness to tell DNO how their news item should have been written. After all your filth was allowed to go through SO WHAT ARE YOU REALLY SAYING?.
I should say that you are so politically blind that you don’t even feel the pain of the ordinary man as JOSHUA FRANCIS DOES.

If it were the other way around what would you have said??
Anyway… If you are trying to draw reference from that to make a point with no valid motive you are indeed lost and unfortunately SMART & STUPID at the same time! However now that you have brought politics into the equation… It is clear that you are a LABORITE!!!

Their is a difference between politicking to buy people and helping people by ones nature. Joshua Francis has always been with people even before he intended to go up for public office. He was not selected by the UWP but by constituents who knew him as the ever present person of the community. In fact after he announced his intention to run on a UWP ticket, Skerrit was quick to refer to him as the attorney that could not get a job but was always looking to bail people that stole rum for free. Can you remember that? A member of my family broke the law many years ago and while other attorneys were quick to quote us their high fee to bail him, Joshua Francis, who did not know him or any of us, did it for free for us although we are not from his constituency and running for power was far from his mind. In fact it’s been so long that I might have passed him without making him out. Blessings to you Joshua and I am thankful that these families have someone like you close to them. My prayers are with them.

Face it for you to run to the Bishop to say lets sacrifice the 500k and give to the needy you telling the man he will pay for his tongue. you all are so brain washed. the good book says give whatsoever you have to the poor and you will be rewarded; go tell your Bishop instead of taking a second collection from those that already doh have give some of the money to those who are in need. sacrifice is key christ said give up all you have and follow me; christ teaching does not have to be in a 8 MILLION DOLLAR CATHEDRAL- HE PREACHED ON THE ROADSIDE – ALONG CORRIDORS AND ON STREET CORNERS; No allyou want a 8mil center of worship; The God that I know will be more pleased with us giving what we have to assist the needty than building cathedrals and palaces so you better watch your tongue.

Yah right! If it was another political party, all you would say is buy they buying votes….

As sad as this situation is which is something none of us would like to experience and should wish no one, it goes to show, if it was the other way around with the DLP MP, that statement would also be said. They will say election is near and he is looking for votes. I have read it, with disgust, many times on this Website.
Now that it is the other way around, you are not pleased. It is a typical example that what goes around comes around in time.
Think of all the uncomplimentary statements which DLP non- supporters make about the PM and members. The recent one was only a few days ago when he congratulated the elected A/gua PM. Whatever he states, the non-supporters are quick to make rash statements and judgments. It is now time to cease it that the Party you support will not get it thrown back at them and you, about your statements directed at the PM.
When it comes to assisting those who have suffered a loss of property, everything they owned in a fire at that, no one should make a derogatory statement at those who come forth and wish to assist. They are unkind words which Children of God should never make. They should not even cross your minds. They should know better.
We are all brothers and sisters in Our Lord Jesus Christ. It appears that some of you have forgotten it or simply ignore it. God will hold you accountable for your adverse words.
Stand up for the truth but ensure it is the truth and watch what you state. You are to give only encouragement and not discouragement. Learn it if you do not know it or were never taught about it.
We are all human beings and we know not any day, minute or second what will happen to us, our family, friends and our property. If we remain alive and well it is through the mercy of God and not by our exertion.
Therefore, be fair. When either DLP or UWP members come to the aid of those in need, all of you, cease your foolish words which serve no useful purpose. Show your compassion to those who have lost property and also show your gratitude to those who come to their aid. Those who reside in D/ca, you are closest to them. Help them if you are able to do so.

Face it…..that is because the DLP have a history of deceitfulness, buying votes…….playing cheap politics……. using the poor and vulnerability for selfish political means……we do not trust them…they have a very rotten and bad record.

We need change and decent politics .

Mr. Francis GOD be with you ! why? becuase you coulld easily have used God to say to the people that God is the one that made the fire happen so you could be there to proclaim help for the people in need; bet some would have said so if they were on site since they take instructions from above; boy I tell you! continue to be humble Mr Francis because I did not hear or see anything n your statement that said as the incoming parl. rep. you were requesting help etc you sounded humane – unlike the others who have already started to say and do differently opportunity to divide

I endorse your sentiments but don’t forget that his efforts to help the poor has not gone unnoticed by skerritt, to the extent that it was said that he could only represent people who steal a bottle of rum. What that said to me was that skerritt’s talk about helping the poor was/is not honest.

      • June 17, 2014

If the Dlp did it, it would look like an election gimmick because it’s out of their league, they are not that compassionate. Man just tell it like it is, anything labour do or give they say people owe them and they say if u doh give them they will …. you, U remember Austrie own words? It’s the labour party philosophy they have shown us who they are and we believe them.

My heart goes out to the people who lost everything, The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, He is the great provider, trust in Him.

Mr. Francis isn’t only good at assisting “certain” men in court. I am sure within the next few days, you will see the caliber of the man. We expect Ambrose to try to out shine Mr. Francis, but that will not help him return as Parliamentary Representative of the Newtown Constituency.

This is not necessary. Did I not just read that he is out of the country? Did you not? Who help, help. It is not a competition which you want to make it out to be. It is one member of humanity helping others on behalf of the entire D/can community.
People as you always take a positive and turn it into a negative. That is your trait and sadly so, for you.

I am sad this happen but I know they will be ok in the long run but please people in time of distress like these please don’t pose for pics with anyone when I saw that I know that could not be me cause I would be to distraught to pose with any political candidate, now Josh I know you think your were scoring points but you taking in front and you cant help the people and DNO backing you saying we are going to help them use the party funds to help them and don’t say you all don’t have cause you all were all over the world, and my last point where you blundered was when you said people will put them up Josh you should have said you will take them home with you at least they will have a roof over their heads there is social department for that let them do their work and kids involve.

@real possie Is your hibernation period over, or were you in a coma?. There were some really great comments on DNO, during your absence. Your venemous and slimy , pungent and putrid comment however is not surprising. Your entire cesspool of poo poo, filth, garbage, puke does not even have ONE LINE where you are empathizing with the victim. SHAME ON YOU. DO YOU REPRESENT THE DLP? I would not be surprised!
Are you concerned of where they sleep tonight like me? I join hands with JOSHUA FRANCIS, in comforting these unfortunate Dominicans.
