Jeep slams bus off Castle Comfort road

A public transport bus (HE-175) was slammed off the road in Castle Comfort just before noon today as an elderly driver of Suzuki Vitara jeep (PM-364) lost control of his vehicle.

The incident occurred outside the Countrystyle Bread shop on the main access road of Castle Comfort.

According to eyewitness reports, the driver of the jeep, who is supposedly in his late 50s or early 60s, was exiting the parking lot of the establishment, having just purchased bread, when he collided with the bus, which was heading in the direction of Roseau on the main road. Dominica News Online has not been able to ascertain the identity of the driver of the jeep.

He reportedly stepped on the gas instead of the brake as he approached the intersection of the parking lot and the roadway. The bus had no passengers.

No serious injuries were reported with the exception of the minor scratch sustained by the bus driver who was identified as Robert ‘Easy’ Francis of Wall House.

Eyewitness say the old man was visibly shaken, having broken his glasses, and was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital for observation.

The jeep driver has accepted responsibility for the accident.

I bettin with anyone de driver of de bus had to have been gettin ready to take off airborne as he must have been flying, so he just could not avoid the jeep coming onto the main road. If the bus was driving like ahuan being then he would have been able to avoid the jeep coming onto the main road from the parking lot. any how i would have been the jeep driver not me would have accepted i wrong. Laleh koko is a airstrip for dem bus drivers.

@anonymous: It was the jeep driver’s fault; didn’t you read that he accepted full responsibility?

Anyway, I hope they are both doing ok, and will suffer no long term effects from this.

An accident at Salisbury last night was the third smash up on the same stretch of road that has happened in 2 and half weeks. A large dumper was flipped onto it’s side last night and the jeep was well mash up. Drivers beware.

People have to be careful with so many crazy drivers on the road. You have to drive for you and the other driver. Well no one was hurt seriously so I hope the elderly man think first before he mash the gas pedal.
