LIAT sends condolences to Haiti, makes aircraft available to CEDMA
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, January 15, 2010 –The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of LIAT (1974) LTD have received with deep regret the news of the loss of life, devastation, and human suffering caused by Tuesday’s magnitude 7.0 Earthquake in Haiti.
We at LIAT continue to experience strong emotion and deep sorrow after this terrible disaster which has affected our neighboring Caribbean country causing tens of thousands of victims and heavy material damage in its wake.
Our sadness is heightened by the continuing report of missing Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) management personnel in Haiti, individuals with whom the company works on a daily basis and who have always been supportive of the company’s best interests.
The LIAT Board of Directors has agreed to make available use of an aircraft to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) to support the regional relief effort for Haiti. A number of LIAT’s staff including pilots and engineers have already offered to provide their services for this activity.
In these particularly painful circumstances the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of LIAT (1974) LTD would like to extend to President René Préval, families of the victims and to all the Haitian people, our sincere condolence, compassion and sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are also with our colleagues and their families at ECCAA at this time.
