Ministry of Tourism saddened by loss of life in Antrim accident

Scene of the accident

At 1:30 pm on the 9th of November, 2016, there was a vehicular accident involving a sedan and a passenger bus, in the Antrim area.

We are saddened by the loss of life of one of our British visitors and express our deepest sympathies to her husband, the family, and friends.

Another 11 people were injured in the incident, 3 locals and 9 visitors. Our concerns have been with them and all is being done to ensure they are treated with the best care, to assist with a speedy recovery.

The Fire/Ambulance/Police and the Hospital department moved quickly to ensure the safety of the passengers and drivers of the respective vehicles.

The Hospital initiated their mass casualty protocols to receive and care for the injured.

In line with a well-established Crisis Action plan, the Ministry of Tourism has undertaken necessary measures to provide clear and concise information to the injured, their families, the Cruise line, the respective embassy, and the respective stakeholders.

The Government, the Cruise Line and other key agencies have all been briefed on the situation.

Again we deeply regret this incident and will continue to assist the victims and the families in any way that we can in light of this tragic matter.

I was out by the emerald Pool just 5 10 mins before this happened and it has been an awful shock
to all of us on board Azura you dont expect people you are cruising with to go out and visit the island and the nice people and end up getting killed the bus drivers in Dominica are careful and I believe have good road sense it is the car driver here clearly on the wrong side of the road what a terrible tragedy my heart goes out to all the families who have had to be flown out as the remaining victims are in hospital critical so we will just have to see how the next few days are to follow.

Please Dominican ministry do something about the roads this was terrible for all and it was heavy rain at this time of the accident put speed restrictions in place and better your roads for all who travel

one concerned British Woman who was there ………………………. RIP with love

Sadden by the death . Condolence to the family. I returned from Dominica on the 4th of November. Whilst on a Journey to Scot Head I had to ask the bus driver to slow down . The Government has to try to fix the roads especially after last year, s hurricane

Deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. That road is a winding one. It is motorable but it certainly not right to speed on it . There should be a prosecution for the driver at fault.

You should never call anyone evil especially if they did no harm to you. Who is perfect? Not even you. Everyone has a wicked streak especially when they get angry; some are worst even when they are not angry. It could be you are more imperfect than those you call evil.
Those of you who call people evil and other derogatory names will one day pay for your words.
I expect you are a Christian. Our Lord said, “Do not judge that you may not be judged two-fold” and “On the day of Judgment every idle word that man shall speak, he shall render an account thereof.” It also means wicked words and calling people evil and for no reason. Keep that in mind.

I believe that if our drivers are exercising caution on the roads then some of these senseless accidents may be avoided .

Pure incompetence on the part of the ministry. Robbie and Piper should be fired forthwith for incompetence. Better they give Daryl Titre the job Robbie is doing instead of he being \”Senior Street Cleaner at large\”. He likes to talk so I am sure we would have gotten a statement sooner for what its worth.

It took Carlisle Jno. Baptiste (Zachy) to beg these guys to make a statement on behalf of the people. What a shame on Dominica. But the same people will come asking for votes again even if they know they don\’t worth a penny. God is good for one day Dominica will rise again.

    Always Assertive!

I sympathize with the families of all those involved in this fatal accident but it is my opinion that in God’s time he will help us to understand the reasons for what we are going through in Dominica.
In the mean time, I consider this accident to be another dot to be connected. Interesting to hear that the deceased and all involved are British citizens.
For months the opposition leaders and other members of society have been complaining about the deplorable conditions of our roads among other infrastructure…..
I believe that while the British Government is investigating this tragic accident they will be able to find out more about our dear Commonwealth Secretary and this case is going to tie into her latest investigation and they will be able to kill many birds with one stone including getting the answer to the question ” where are we spending the passport monies?” We have a lot to answer to!

Mr Minister, I think that your statement is a day late and a dollar short.

Instead of being a little sympathetic, this is what you typed? I bet you’ve heard this saying before “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

    • Tell the Truth
      November 10, 2016

President Donald Trump is singing a different tune now. Therefore, tone down your rhetoric. You ensure you live a godly life, help and pray for others.
Do you know that God did not promise us a bed of roses? It is ignorant to think that because people pray nothing will happen to them and to their country. What happens at such times, He will give them the strength to cope. If they do not faith, hope and trust in God they have nothing. They will also exercise much patience.
Our Lord said: “In this world you will have troubles. . . .” No matter how much people pray it will not prevent them from the maladies of the world. Keep this in mind.
Should the inevitable occur to you, do you have the faith of all to withstand whatever befalls you?
Know that where you reside is not safe. Nowhere in the world is safe. Fortunately for those whom nothing happened to. However, you never know. You are not exempt.

What a stupid way to blame Government for everything, if you have a problem in bed is the Government too. Dominicans does have the weirdest and most foolish assumption of things. Thank GOD for you your life everyday. Death is no respecter of persons. The reason why things happen in your country because you have a BAD TONGUE. Some of all you not simple is me that all them Soukouyan and Lougarou around.

        November 12, 2016

        Dear Caribbean National,
In response to a death on our public roads, who else would you hold accountable if the facilities are poor? God?
I wouldn’t hold the Government accountable for what happens in my bed unless it is a hospital bed – but that is yet to come.
There is a government appointed to look after the people’s welfare and services. If this is not happening properly then they are accountable.
-They are responsible for the lack of development of Dominica
-They are responsible for poor leadership as per their begging bowl
-They are responsible for false promises (Airport, hospital, etc)
-They are responsible for bad commercial practices (Panama Papers, passports)
-They are responsible for poor planning

These responsibilities are not for God or the electorate but for those elected (and even that may be fraudulent). Unless we wake up and face these realities then we perish with them.

The rest of the Caribbean is gradually moving forward while we move…

Even from afar this person can pray for Dominica. God is everywhere and He hears those prayers. Christians know He will answer them in his time.
He wants us to have faith, hope, trust, patience, persevere in prayer and doing good works in Jesus Name. One day we will reap what we sow.
