UPDATE: Sub-machine gun, 15 rounds of ammo seized in Loubiere incident

The scene of the incident

The police have confirmed that a sub-machine gun with 13 rounds of ammunition was seized in an operation in Loubriere on Wednesday afternoon.

During the operation a white Escudo, registered TJ330 with two male occupants aboard, attempted to escape the police but instead struck a pedestrian, a police vehicle and a utility pole before coming to a stop.

The pedestrian has been identified as Caryl Jno. Baptiste Peter of Pointe Michel residing at Virgin Lane.

The firearm was found during a search of the vehicle.

Jno Baptiste Peter and the occupants of the Escudo were transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where they were treated. The pedestrian was released and one occupant of the Escudo was  released into police custody while the other was admitted with injuries.

The white Escudo was extensively damaged while the police vehicle received minor damages.

The police said investigations are continuing.

Please Dominicans! can u all tell me what are we fighting for?. People do not like the police, but everything that is going wrong they will say, “call the police” We are really going down the drain. Our people cannot follow America. We are not developed, and have a handful of people. Lets cooperate, and “can we all get along”? Let the police do their jobs. If they are corrupt, be sure their sins will find them out, because they have children and the Bible say “What u sew that is what u will reap. We all just have to do the right thing “Always”. We are right now the smallest population in the Caribbean. Love, Don’t hate. We have children and grand children coming up. What example are we showing them, Love Always.

Simply blessed, you are not blest at all; just simple. Those who are blest and who use such a godly word, are always pleasant/nice to others. You lack this godly virtue and are in dire need of them.
It takes one to know one. You have right to comment and I have a right to comment.  If you did not access this Website, you would not know that I comment on it. Right!  How fair are you? Look to yourself.
It is none of your business that I comment on this Website which does not belong to you. May I say to you, mind your own business; that you are out of place and do not know your place? What I do with my God-given precious time is none of your business.
For your further information, some of you make some silly and senseless comments. You must be corrected in the hope that, if you are willing to learn you will put on your thinking cap and learn something intelligent.
Some of you do not put the blame where it belongs. It is as if you do not have any common sense. You blame the police and not the criminals. You generalize and are always bringing down your Police Force. What type of person/Dominican are you?
Dominica in this era is experiencing a rash of murders/criminals, drug dealers and pushers which are destructive to DA’s society and nationals. It is no easy time for the police and for nationals who live in fear. You are blind and deaf to this. Do not use the word blessed. It is reserved for the truly blessed.  Learn something godly.
Keep in mind the words of Our Lord Jesus Christ or have you forgotten them, “Love one another.” So much for you being a Christian and a practicing one. You are in dire need of God’s blessing, graces and enlightenment.

let us stop being myopic about the events leading to the arrest of these gentlemen. The questions we should ask are:
    1) Why were they running from the cops?
    2) Why did they have a sub machine gun?
    3) What did they intend to do with the gun?
    4) What activities are related to having such a lethal weapon in Dominica.

I thank God that the police got that gun off the streets. I pray for a speedy recovery of the pedestrian. I think that some of us bloggers are attempting to find any excuse to blame the cops. The fact is that you, your family, friends, neighbours and the tourist can feel safer knowing that Dominica finest are doing their job.

    Do I hear an amen?

you must remember that with all your “finest’ talk you must remember that 30 sub machine guns disappeared from the police armory. what can of ‘finest’ will facilitate criminals with that level of grotesque firepower???
Police officers are not doing anyone a favour when they do their duty. They are actually paid to do so. On the other hand they have no right to give comfort to the criminalising of society.

You are the one with tunnel vision. You refuse to see the big picture. The reason why we are not making progress as compared to other caribbean countries. The country is fully aware that the police themselves are the ones selling guns to criminals. The machine guns that are now on the streets came from the Dominica armory. The police cannot dispute the facts.

It is fair to say that the police is just running into the mess that the corrupt police create. What the police should and must do is to get to the bottom of the corruption basin. I wont hold my breath because there is just too much corruption from the government ministers down to the police, lawyers and the judicial system.

We have to decide how much we want to pay for the war on crime. The drugs flowing up north in this part of the Caribbean is to much $ worth of trade to stop. The price will get higher.

What is truly sad about this is we know these guys from time immortal like Mwanga. The system just have these guys going in and out and waiting to see who next they messing up and hope is not our family. I remember the last time they were chasing the guy from the “Lane of the Church” shooting behind him all on bayfront with a riffle (saw with my own eyes) on a Friday night with no lights and no license plates. Police pick them up. Then there was the time last year they shot at “Shakes” for not serving them before all the persons that were there waiting in line in front of them to be served.

I say all this to say all rope have end and the police have to execute there duties to protect civilians. It has now come to the point where whatever the police can do (by whatever means), they should do to protect us from these guys. Plain and simple…who vex loss.

Where is the voice of the attorney general, the priest father Thomas, Peter Augustine.
The opposition spoke about foot on the ground and apologist interprete this as inciting violence. Now we have all kind of guns belonging to the government on the street and guns thabelon

@lizavier4jesus; apparently you don’t know any African history or you are not interested in knowing about your ancestral knowledge. Are you ashamed? It seems like you have become comfortable with religion just like many others and are not willing to use your brain. I said before that we have always been a spiritual people and that can’t be taken away. Spirituality and religion are different. Religion is man made and was forced on our forefathers. Thus this was passed down from generation to generation.
There is a book called “The Historical Origin of Christianity,” by Walter Williams and another one called “Christianity, Slavery and Labour,” by Chapman Cohen.
History tells us what has happened to our ancestors on the continent. Some of our West Indian authors, such as Dr. Eric Williams from Trinidad wrote “Capitalism and Slavery”, Dr. Walter Rodney from Guyana wrote “How Europe underdeveloped Africa,” Ivan Van Sertima, also from Guyana wrote “They Came Before Columbus,” meaning that Africans traveled the world before the Europeans because the Europeans did not understand longitude and latitude. That’s why they thought that the earth was flat. There are many more authors who have written our history that we may never have heard of. Some of them are Dr.Yosef ben Yochannan, author of “Africa, Mother of Western Civilisation,” Cheikh Anta Diop, George G.M. James, author of “Stolen Legacy and many more.
“Let’s not be ignorant any longer by just accepting what we have been told. Our forefathers had a history and civilisation that was second to none before Africa was invaded by the Europeans.
Our forefathers were deceived by rum, guns and the bible. Families were reaped apart, captured and brought to the West and were called slaves. They were given European names, were forbidden to speak their native tongues and adopted The European languages which we try to master more than them.
Are we ashamed of our history because of all the negative things that we have been told about Africa? Why are we ashamed to identify ourselves with Africa. Someone said if there were people of different ethnic groups in a room and you asked them about their ancestry, they all would respond accordingly except the African who would say, I am a christian, muslim, hebrew, etc.,
Africa was the mother of civilisation. That’s where the Greeks, Romans and other nations went for knowledge.
Africa is in this demise today because of Europeans invading the continent and causing division among the people. Don’t you realise that wherever these people went they took things by force? What happened to the Native American Indians? There is so much to know besides burying our heads in just one book which was given to our forefathers for the control of their/our minds. Babies are not born with a religion. They are introduced to religion of which they know nothing just as we were. Are we not to find out about our roots? We have our heads looking to the sky while The Europeans are in Africa reaping the gold and the diamonds and every valuable substance that can be found on the continent. The game is power and economics. It has been this way for a long time.
We are in this condition as a people because we have lost our way and religion is not that way. There are far too many and things are worse than ever before.

      @out of South City

I believe that I mentioned to you that I am not ashamed of who I am, and so, I will not dwell in the past, and my desire is to move on in Life, depending on what God has prepared for me.

I now live in a country of more than thirty million people with a culture like what is called the “Salad Bowl” meaning all kinds of cultures; here, we are trained to live in harmony, for the sake of social development in us. I do not have the time to dwell in the past like you seem to be doing.

If you claimed that black people were so grand–with skills, professions, and prestige, in the past, why should you believe that I am ashamed of that pass. For today, I am even more developed socially, than my “prestigious” past or yesteryears–good heavens!

History, what ever it might be is in the pass–it has happened already and cannot be readjusted or corrected, it is foolish to dwell in the past, one cannot move onwards or upwards with that attitude of their mind.

Also, for years now, I need no one to tell me about my Life, for Holy Spirit is doing that job perfectly, for me.

If He is not speaking to you, it is because you have chosen to listen, belive, and accept the stories of the “stone ages” when you never existed. And so, stick to what you want to believe and accept, let me to stick to mine.

Now if you feel that you need to enlighten other people based on the wisdom and philosophy of other human beings like yourself–just go ahead and do so, according to your means.

I do not need your so-called enlightenment, and so, I suggest that you leave my “posting” name out of your comments. Thank you in advance.

If you let the hoodlums get away you will be in big trouble. Parents turn your bad boys in. You know who they are. The weapons are probably coming in on all the vessels and aircrafts. October 4, 2012

What do you know about the Law? Why are you blaming the police who is doing his duty? It appears that you are on the side of the criminals. If the perpetrator(s) refuse to stop and continue to drive, the police will set up road blocks to obstruct their path. They could be police cruisers. If the police have time they will get out of their cruiser(s). They could ram the vehicle, meaning, get close to it from all sides so that the perpetrator(s) will have no choice but to stop. Sometimes they get out of the vehicle and commence running and the police follow suite to catch them.
It is obvious that you are not a police supporter. This is why there are many crimes in Dominica. You are not assisting law enforcement in Dominica. You are crying down your own police force. Are you not aware that their job is a dangerous one in these times? What type of Dominican national are you?

The WHITE SUZUKI ESCUDO did not knock down that woman on purpose…it was only after the police slammed their van into the jeep it went on to hit the pole and the woman who was standin on the side of the road…Next time they executing their plan they shud ask the pedestrians to get out of the way

    • Justice and Truth
      October 4, 2012

      @ Eye Witness

You are not fair to the police. The criminal driver was fleeing from the police after having been asked to stop. This is an offence. In so doing, he hit the woman. It was not stated that he willfully hit her but because he was fleeing from the police. He is not to be exonerated. Why did he not stop when the police told him to stop?
You stated that the woman was standing on the side of the road. She was obviously aware of what was occurring and was viewing the scene out of curiosity. She saw the criminal driving and towards her, no doubt at a fast pace and she did not have the common sense to get out of the way. She is not a smart person.
The police cannot always alert pedestrians in advance. Criminals do not choose a specific time to disobey the Law. If pedestrians observe what is occurring, for their safety they must use their judgment and immediately get out of the area and far away from the scene as possible so that they do not get injured or killed. She was wrong to stand up on the sidewalk at such a time. Do not blame the police. If she had quickly walked away from where she was standing she probably would not have been knocked down by the criminal’s vehicle. Place the blame where it belongs.
Let the Law/Court decide who was wrong. One thing I will inform you the primary person who was wrong is the criminal who failed to obey. He caused the woman to be injured. If he had stopped, she would not have been injured. Then, again, she noticed the goings-on and I reiterate that she should be responsible enough to get out of the way and run for her life. This is what sensible people who care for their health and welfare would have done.

Mathematics is the abstract study of topics encompassing quantity, structure, space, change etc. Note the ‘s’ in topics. Thus it is not a singular word so the shortened form should be plural as well. maths. Thank God for Internet so some of you dunce caps can try to appear smart. When you all had the chance to show intelligence in school you all would sit like some empty vessels in a corner. You went in to school like a sheep and came out like a goat and now want to correct every one of stuff you have no knowledge of.

Dno is correctly usin9g the word.. There is JEEP and jeep, two different terms the first being a brand name and the other being a generic term which has even been used by the military to describe aircraft and other unproven vehicles. JEEP is one of the many brand names which have become generic including zipper among others so please stop being critical and focus on the real issue. You people are talking crazy. What you talking about lawlessness.

This is not the first time people have been arrested with sub machine guns in Dominica or any other major crime. as way back as in the 70’s I can remember people can’t go to thier gardens.

As a matter of fact, Dominica is actually one of the safest countries during this world recession. I believe that we now have DNO to bring us the news as it occurs, hence we should not confuse ourselves and cloud our minds with uneducated statements.

Stop crying down your country. Lets put politics aside and look for ways to assist her through this trying times.

I cannot understand u. Even if is had machine guns way back in the 1970s it does not change the fact that there are machine guns at every street corner now.The reason for that is because the economy is very very bad!hence, the gov’t needs to be blamed!

For a moment when I commenced reading this article I thought that I was in Toronto or in another Canadian province. :) I could not believe that this occurred in Dominica. This is real drama.
Well, these days with gun-toting people and illegal drugs, anything could happen. Those criminals and their activities are that of people who reside in those big countries. They are keeping the police extremely busy. I recall those days when the police work was easier and safer and no doubt less stressful. Dominicans we must also pray for the police. They tend to be forgotten in prayer. Be fair and respectful to them. May God protect them.

While i do not support criminal behavior, the way dno reports the news is extremely questionable and it looks like they are trying to sway the public opinion a certain way. The truth is that another police vehicle was parked lying in wait for the speeding Jeep and that vehicle proceeded to ram the Jeep which subsequently resulted in the accident. If anyone is to be blamed for the accident and injuries then it is the police because of the dangerous and reckless way they triedto stop the Jeep. Dno please report the events as they happen and not in a way to shape public opinion.

You appear to be a lawless person and are on the side of the criminal. You have no concern and respect for them and for their responsibilities. This is what having computer access does to some people. It appears that not everyone should own a computer and have access to same.
You have exceeded your bounds. For what you have stated you should be prohibited from this Website. I do not view it as freedom of speech. I view it as direct criticism and disregard for those who are performing their duties. You should know your place and stay out of this. No one asked you for information.
You are not blaming that criminal for refusing to stop when he was told to stop. He knew what he had in his vehicle and why he thought he could have escaped the police, fool that he is. The police did what they had to do under the circumstances.

How far have we been removed as a people! When our forefathers were on the continent before the conqueres arrived they didn’t act so savagely toward each other. We need to find out where the guns originated because according to the history that I have read our forefathers were a civilised people, in tune with nature and the universe. That’s why they could build the pyramids in alignment with the universe. They were not a barbarious people as European history has been written. They were great astronomers, astrologers, scientists, mathematicians, the first physicians, and everthing great the mind can imagine. Civilisation started with us, African people, and not the other way around, as we’ve been taught.
That’s why I have been saying that we have taken on the slave master’s (mind) mannerism by killing, pillaging and causing bloodshed on each other.
Our minds need to be renewed with truth, which is our African history. We are a spiritual and peaceful people by nature but we have lost our way. We have been following the ways of those who brought our ancestors here in the so-called new world.
Ever since we were separated from mother Africa, we lost our names, languages, spirituality, and most of all our sanity. We have been programmed to treat each other with hostility because that’s how our fore-parents were treated from the time they were captured, transported and worked on the plantations. We truly need to be emancipated from that mentality. We need to find our love, dignity, harmony, togetherness, unity and respect once more and treat each other the same way. We have truly come a long way and we need to get back to who we were. That’s where the research comes in. It is time to start the journey my people.
    Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • October 4, 2012

      @out of south city

I cannot help but notice this things you are have written here, such as this one:

“They were great astronomers, astrologers, scientist, mathematicians, the first physicians, and everything great that the mind can imagine. Civilization started with us, African people, and not the other way around, as we have been taught”

Are you for real? Do you really expect an intelligent young black person, in 2012, to simply believe and accept what you said above, without questions as to why we, black people, are not the highest class of society today?

How could we black people, the “civilized societies” of yesteryears, being such learned, powerful, and advantaged people, according to your claim above; yet we allowed what you described as “barbarous people” to enter our lives and our “prestigious” living patterns–what you described as civilized–and to force their influence on us, so that today, we are among the weakest and most disadvantaged people of the world? I mean that is the only way it could have happened, isn’t it–but how could that be?

Do you know that in Canada–where I now live– their are thousands and thousands of people from their African countries, who still cannot speak and write English nor French which are the official languages of Canada–they have no official language of their own, they simply speak their “mother tongue” which is not understood by outsiders, they, themselves cannot even write that language–I am speaking from I know personally–I have lived in Canada for 38 years this year.

Like people from other countries, those African people are all here, running away from the poverty, civil war, and other hardship of their home countries. They lie to the Canadian government, telling them that are running from political persecution in their countries.

Most of them do not even know the day on which they were born, because of the ignorance of their parents, and the lack of advancement in their country at their time of birth–Civilization, with Astronomers, Astrologers, and Mathematicians you say! So what happened to the skills or profession of such people?

Well this is the year 2012; this problem is in existence right now. The Government of Canada, in other for them to deal with those people, they simply guess their age and they give them a birth date, which is January 1st of whatever the year of birth they chose for those people.

Most of those people are allowed to go back to school–at the expense of the Canadian Government–to learn the basics–even to learn to read and write. Where was that civilization, which you mentioned above in “mother Africa” when those people were growing up there, how could they have exchanged a civilized lifestyle for poverty, war, mental, and physical weakness and disadvantages?

Well are those people not of “mother Africa?” Who and what is forcing them to separate from their so-called “mother” and to travel to other places to find “strange fathers” whom they lie to in order to get refuge and survival?

Well Canada for sure, is no longer buying the lies of those people, and those of the past who has been discovered of that lie, is in big, big, trouble, if they came from mother Africa, with the prestige and advancement which you described why are being sent back to their “so-called mother” because of their bad habit of lies and dishonesty?

Boss You honestly think anyone gonna read that sub-article you post there?  You commenting for you alone to read man?

    • October 4, 2012

“We are a spiritual and peaceful people by nature, but we have lost our ways”–writes commentor “Out of the South”.

Well who is our guide in the Spirit? Is He not the God, whom people like you, have rejected His Word,–the message of Life. But you are hopelessly, seeking for answers based on your past–from your “mother Africa”, which and who is the acceptance of those who existed during the days of what I will call “the stone ages”.

What do you understand to be spiritual and peaceful by nature? I say nothing at all! Otherwise you would be thriving in that state and to be satisfied with Life, encouraging others to seek fo that same kind of satisfaction.

Nonetheless, the Prophet Isaiah spoke the same sentiment like yours above, when he said: “All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned, everyone to our own ways”

This statement represent the person in you, who claimed to have “believed like me” and now you are trying to find Life, from reading books that tell stories of the “Stone ages” What kind of enlightenment do you receive from that?

You cannot speak about being spiritual and to leave God out of it. Had it not been for His mercy and compassion of Love, things would be much worse than it is now–no one would survive for more than a few hours–be they black, white, red, yellow, or blue. Now believe it or not!

And so the blaming game does not work anymore, for as soon as we come to know that we have a mind, and that its ground is the Battlefield of Life in us, the sooner we should decide to have victory. This victory can only come through faith–the kind of faith that works through Love–and this Love is from the God of Spirit and Truth. God’s nature of Love is of spiritual strength, wisdom, understanding, courage, and knowledge of Him–again that is where our victory come from.

It is time for us, black people, to get rid of that blaming game in our minds and to take responsibility for our failure, as much as we claim responsibility for our success.

Today I read that “Justin Trudeau” the son of past Prime Minster “Pierre Trudeau” has decided to run for the “Liberal Leadership”, because of his love for Canada–his father past away a few years ago.

We are to be the model for the generation ahead of us, especially in our home country, but that is the problem. We do not have love in us, because we reject the God of Love, He holds His guidance from us; and so we are always looking for something or someone to blame–this game will not work anymore!

Really!!! Maybe you should read about the mass genocide that is taking place in some African countries!! What about the constant rape of African women & children? Is it to be blamed on the masters, in as much as there wasn’t the type of slavery as found in North America & the Caribbean? Please come to terms that the system is changing & as such, DA is fast becoming part of that ugly change.

Well, then again in DA the maths is:

    land + rover + defender = jeep

Ask what happened to those youths who commit crimes/murders and who go around with guns of every sort and where did they go wrong. They were once innocent children/adults. Godlessness and increased godlessness is the cause of this.
I have previously stated that many different religions have infiltrated Dominica, their leaders saying that they are going to convert and save people that one would think by now there would be total conversions and no criminals and crimes especially of this nature.
Fervently pray for those criminals, doing this through worship, prayer, abstinence from sin, especially mortal/grievous sin, fasting, penance and sacrifice. This is the only way to appease God that in time He will effect a change in Dominica and convert the lawless. It cannot be done otherwise. Talking, asking questions or assuming will not work. This is the manner in which I feel there will be a change. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” It is something to keep in mind and to remind and inform others about. St. Paul said: “Teach and remind people of these things.”

      @ youth

Sorry young one. As the saying, “I do not buy that”, he is not the only one and was not the first and will not be the last. This is irrationally thinking and words. Take this out of your young mind.
Your little mind is too young and immature to grasp the seriousness of this crime and what could have happened if the man used the gun.
Your statement does not mean that excuses must be made for them and they must be condoned. They must live a law-abiding life. They are dangerous and are a menace to society and place fear in fellow-Dominicans. They must be caught and dealt with appropriately by the Law of the land.
You are young. Let this be a lesson to you. Study diligently, be obedient and disciplined so that you will graduate and go on to higher learning and one day obtain a good, legal and stable paying job. It is your life. You have many more years to go yet. The future is in your hands. Make good use of it for time flies.
God’s blessing, graces and peace be to you. I wish you well for the future.

i agree, as they were in d area for a bit of time before, the lady was waiting for her bus, thats where all workers in this area await the public buses………..all they had to do was ask her to move from that particular area as they are conducting an investigation…..shame on the popo this time for this accident.

You are another one accusing the police. You are one who does not utilize your common sense and good judgment. Probably you do not possess any. Was the woman walking on the street or on the side of the street or sidewalk? You do not know that. You are too free with your words and no doubt with your tongue. It is a crime to accuse others of what they did not do and are not guilty of. You should be charged. Smarten up! Wait to hear the police side.
I think the woman was negligent. Some people are not alert when they are walking on the street. Especially in these times they must be aware of what is occurring around them and always be on the alert. I hope she did not have one of those technologies in her ear which prevented her from hearing what was going on near her.
If she heard the police and siren and saw them, she should get out of the way. Surely, she was not blind and deaf not to know what was then occurring so close to her.
If I were her I would quickly get out of the way. I am not stupid and negligent that if I hear police voices and siren including an ambulance or fire truck siren since these are loud that I would keep walking blindly and deaf as if I owned the street or sidewalk, the latter even though I have right of way. There are times that when they are responding to an emergency, they may have to squeeze the vehicle near or on the sidewalk due to the traffic. I treasure my safety and my life and my first reaction would be to get out of the way. Priority is given to those vehicles in the case of an emergency and this one was an emergency. They are fortunate that the man did not fire the sub machine gun and injure and kill someone or some people. Some people need to be educated accordingly.

Why did the person have to run from the police all of you people look like your kids are in drugs and you are getting from it.Yes Dominica do not have road to chase then but it have road for them to run from the police thanks. POLICE HOLD THEM DOWN GOOD WORK.

Remember some weeks ago that the police found a cache of ammunition in a home and arrested three people, two men and a woman? They did not find a gun. I thought that there is a gun somewhere which may have been given to someone to hide. Who knows? This sub machine gun could be related to that case. I am putting two and two together and merely speculating.

Dominicans are acting too senseless these days. That sort of crime (cocaine, guns tryint to outrun police) has a very short lifespan. Not even the evil of slavery could last in Dominica because of the mountainous terrain; the Island physically is not a place that can sustain crime. With it mountains and Rivers is just not a place this kind of evil can thrive… there is no place to hide and even if you find a place you cannot hide for long, if they don’t see you they will smell you. Once you know and your friend knows what you know, everybody so can’t do it for long. Even the government is up for scrutiny as they should be ‘BADNESS OUTTA STYLE’ get an education, start a legal business or plant fig’ UDOHREADYET

Do not be surprised. These things happen in progressive countries. Police pursuing criminals and then gun shots hit pedestrians; some may die and others are injured. In the end, the Law/government takes care of the victims, if alive and the injured or the families, if victims die at their hands after the completion of the Court case. This is why countries need law-abiding citizens and crimes should cease and be eradicated. In addition, the Law should deal harshly with such criminals who cause this trouble. Never blame the police who are performing their jobs. It is not easy for them in this era.

The charges piling up with just the driving aspect alone.
