Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has travelled to Petite Savanne for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in that community where it is reported that a number of persons are missing.
The Prime Minister revealed that on August 27, the coast guard unit was trying to access the area by sea since the area was inaccessible by vehicle up to that point.
Skerrit said every resident of Petite Savanne needs to be accounted for.
He revealed that Dr. Kenneth Darroux is in Petite Savanne not only as the Parliamentary Representative for the area but also to provide medical assistance as well.
Meanwhile PM Skerrit said that he has received several calls from other countries and agencies in the region with pledges of support for Dominica.
He thanked the Government of Trinidad and Tobago which has promised assistance and has made two helicopters available to help with search and rescue operations. The Venezuelan Government has also made two helicopters available.
Skerrit added that search and rescue efforts started by the French are continuing today.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority will do an assessment of the Douglas Charles Airport with a view to getting it up and running again.

Why is mostly negative people that does comment on DNO? It really making me sad because we don’t need this at this time. Seriously!
I think that the Prime Minister is way over his head. The Country to turn to is America. We have the ways and means to do the job. Do anyone remember 36 years ago? America came to our rescue as soon as possible. Food, water, clothing, medical supplies. As a matter of fact, everything under the sun ,except our love ones were given to us. Now this time , far worse has happened and he’s praising Venezuela for it’s two (2) helicopters. Really? Can our Countrymen eat, drink, sleep, and wear those helicopters? My fellow Dominicans. Venezuela is in no condition to help us. Venezuela is broke and the help that we need, only America can do so. Those copters are just for photo opts. That’s all for him. At the end of the day , you all will be the ones suffering ,wandering where is the food, shelter, clothing, and medical supplies going to get to you. At the end of the day , he goes to his palace and you are left hungry. He sold his Country to the devil . Open your eyes.
Where are these helicopters? There seems to be only 1 in commission to help with the rescue on Petite Savanne, Dominica….. No news of my family on Petite Savanne.
I know he takes a beating many times. But I must give a thumbs up to the Prime Minister for the photos that he tweeted out to CNN hence the world got to know what went on in DA. Usually these small countries are never mentioned like they just don’t exist. On CNN the news anchor made special mention of it to the weather man, that the photos were sent out by the PM of Dominica. I was able to view it not only on CNN but on BBC,France 24, and a few other channels. I’m no politician,if it was done by Mr. Linton I would have said the same thing. I just believe in giving one his jacket when he deserves it. That was very thoughtful of you sir, great job,Thanks
Thanks you to PM Kamla and the trinidad government, and the pilots, for returning prime minster skerrit safe to dominica
“He thanked the government of Trinidad … and Venezuela for the helicopters.
But the picture shows a french helicopter “Securite civile” probably from Guada or Martnique.
Not one little thank to France !
So it is !
Posing for photos now ?????????
Dominica’s corrupt government, with approval of its childish people, squanders money on a presidential palace and sports stadium. But won’t spend on infrastructure, hospital, or schools.
The Dominica Government is embodied in one man. He takes all the glory, all the praise, he is everywhere at the same time. Not seeing or hearing of the other Ministers of Government. Very self serving.
What is happening? 30 hours after the disaster no word on the number of casualties at Petite Savanne? Does the Dominican public have a right to information? Everyone knows that people died in Petite Savanne and no one dares open their mouth to say a word before Skerrit gives them permission! OMG
People Dead and in distress and Darroux and his people smiling and laughing like they on some sight seeing. This shows clearly how heartless these people are.
