UPDATE: Two injured in traffic collision at Picard

Severely damaged vehicle involved in motor vehicle accident at Picard

Two people have been injured in a traffic collision which occurred at about 7:00 o’clock this evening close to the Anichi Hotel at Picard, Portsmouth.

An eyewitness who was on the scene at the time of the incident, told Dominica News Online (DNO) that the accident occurred when a Mitsubishi SUV which was travelling in a northerly direction collided with a dump truck which had pulled up on the side of the road as it was experiencing mechanical problems. According to the eyewitness, the Mitsubishi also hit a Honda HRV which was travelling southwards in the opposite direction.

The DNO source reported that the driver of the Mitsubishi SUV and a passenger on the HRV were injured and were transported to the Portsmouth Hospital for medical attention. He said the driver of HRV escaped injury.

We will continue our efforts to get an official report from the police.

Totally agree. Street lighting is terrible. Traffic lights non existent and the driving is wild. Dominica is beautiful but it needs to come in line with the 21st Century.

What sort of lights are you referring to?
Don’t you know that Dominica is the nature island of the universe, therefore the Roosevelt Skerrit administration, detest modern technology such as traffic signals light.
We heard that $1.2 billion dollars are missing, yet; Dominica does not have an Int. Airport.
Roosevelt told people in Marigot, years ago, it would cost a billion to build.

I’m happy all survived. Motorists have to be vigilant on the road. Government vehicles, like the garbage trucks, should be much better maintained. There is a lot of accidents waiting to happen due to poor maintenance of vehicles on the road especially those heavy vehicles belonging to the State. This is unacceptable. Seriously, why is everything under this government’s control is so poorly managed and maintained? Government’s vehicles and buildings, roads, bridges, the CBI, the Civil Service, every public asset and institution. It’s a burning shame. This government’s primary and only focus is to devise unscrupulous plans on winning elections but not to succeed for the benefit of the vast working poor and the unemployed. They haven’t been successful at anything but enriching themselves.

      I agree.

But alas, we have no means of properly testing private road vehicles let alone heavy goods vehicles. The present testing the lights, horn and hand-brake is not enough. This is something that the Public Works Garage could have been equipped to do.

Roger, I lived in Europe at one time; England, and Germany, to be precise.
I am now living in North America, citizen of the United States.
I enjoy the privilege of driving across the continental U. S., into Canada, and into Mexico too.
However, I don’t know anybody who takes their cars and trucks for inspection, unless they obtained a fix it citation.
Other that, the state tells you when to get a smog test.
If want to drive rubbish, and kill yourselfe, that’s your funeral.
        Hahahahaha.

You can not blame it on pot-holes now you divert to something else. Why don.t you blame the CRAZY drivers who are always in a hurry to attend their own funeral. Take a good look at the pic above. There should be no reason for the SUV to have collided with a packed truck on the side of the road and end up hitting another upcoming vehicle if speeding was not involved. Ibo MALAPROP France stop your BS by blaming the government for every and any negative thing that happens in the country. What the government has to do with that accident?Common, get a life and do something productive with it. You are becoming a nonsense.
