Specific responsibilities for each Parliamentarian

PM Skerrit meets with parliamentarians

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that each elected Parliamentarian, including the Opposition, has specific responsibilities in the effort to restore the island after Tropical Storm Erika.

“As the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, I gave them a go ahead to engage whatever resources they have available to them to assist and facilitate the clearing of roads and drains,” he said.

PM Skerrit added, “They have been doing that and in all fairness I believe everybody has been on the field.”

Skerrit said he has been in communication with some of the Parliamentarians for updates and to find out what additional support is required.

The Prime Minister revealed that he has been in touch with the MP for Roseau South, Attorney-at-Law Joshua Francis who is out of state. Skerrit who has assumed responsibility for Francis’ Constituency in his absence said he has updated the MP on the visits made to the Constituency and the actions taken.

Meanwhile, he said a decision was also taken for the Leader of the Opposition Lennox Linton to be part of the membership of National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO). As such, Linton will attend NEPO meetings and make suggestions on how the operations of the NEPO can be enhanced.

This is a good start. However, please PM use your forward vision for the rebuilding and healing of DA. DO NOT make the same errors as before. Please take my advise (and there are many silent voices apart from mine). Please use some expertise from within DA as well as those overseas. As PM we don’t expect you to know everything yourself. Use those who do know. Use inhouse engineers and builders etc. Develop proper standards for buildings (where and how to build safely) and roads etc. Stop illegal or unsafe practices. Have fined for those who throw garbage in rivers, seas and roads – but this must be enforced. In advance of those who are planning to dislike this post, please post your solutions at the same time. Remember, this is just a wake up call, and if we don’t take heed, the snooze button will remain on. We must move forward together using our inhouse expertise in as many areas as possible, including psychological help for those who have been traumatised. Prayers going out.

Does this man control the Opposition leaders also? Why did he said that? Cant they help with out his go ahead? Make me wonder and think. It takes disaster to happen to understand whats taking place in a another man’s country

Thank God for storms such as Erika! Skerrit is living proof that some people only learn the hard way! Only now he sees the merit in engaging the opposition constructively.

You are biased, a one-sided person and unfair.
What would you have stated if he did not include them? I guess your comments would be worst; all Hell would break lose.

I wish now more than ever in this difficult time that a man like Linton was PM because of his great communication, organisational and logistical skills.

You do not choose a PM based on this. You should know it takes more than that. There are many people who possess those skills and who are not PM or do not want to be PM. They can serve well in other capacities.
