Trinidad PM weeps for 8-year-old, pledges to deal harshly with criminals

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad — All three newspapers in Trinidad and Tobago carried the banner headline “Kamla weeps for Daniel” as the country’s prime minister was deeply saddened over the murder of eight-year-old Daniel Guerra, whose body was found floating in a river two days after he was reported missing.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar and two other ministers went to the boy’s home and offered their condolences and pledged that the government will do everything possible to find the killer and to crack down on violent crimes in the country.

The prime minister and the vocal minister of works, Jack Warner, said that gruesome murders in the country have amplified the call to reintroduce hanging in the country.

During the past month there has been an upsurge in violent crime, including murders, in the twin island republic.

The opposition People’s National Movement is not in favour of the death penalty. However, the two major parties are discussing whether or not hanging should be reintroduced in the country.

Once upon a time, so the bible says, the caribbean region was a beautiful and quiet area with friendly, caring and giving people. Today the caribbean has dug itself into an abyss of shame, violence, and disgust. St. Lucia which was once recognized as the Helen of the West and the Cinderella of the Caribbean has turned into the mecca of murder of the Caribbean. There are four things we can surely attribute the “Fall of the Caribbean” to, and they are: (1) the advent of American television into our homes with no censorship that prohibits air-programmes that do not benefit us at all in a positive way – no one listens to our network anymore, CBC in Barbados, for caribbean programmes that stimulate and uplift our minds, (2) the ease with which people can travel today – long ago you were hobbled by many forms to fill out before you were given the OK to travel for only a certain period of time, the undesirables bring back dirty habits from foreign countries which the locals emulate and adopt, nobody pays any mind to those things anymore, (3) american and english tourists swooping down on our beaches nude and half nude, nobody gives a damn, they are all into it themselves, the powers to be are all for the green dollars and the queen’s pounds, (4) our airwaves today are blarring with dirty, disgusting rap sounds that make no sense, the powers to be do not put any taboo on those sounds anymore, minds are not uplifted anymore, people have no more morals and respect anymore, nobody listens to Rod Stewart, Elton John, and so on, anymore, we do not have DJs like Ted Dailey, Tim Durand, and so on anymore – hence we fall into all sorts of crimes. It is time that the powers-to-be of today rewind the clock back and chart a comprehensive plan that will bring stability, growth, and progress to our lovely caribbean.

We shall not assist any country if it does not benefit Trinidad….This woman is wrong!!!

That is not how the God’s world operates. Even America does not go strictly that way. You help somebody today, someone else will help you tomorrow. There is too much revering of ignorance and selfihness nowadays.

I think we need two Prime Ministers. One to blather everytime Dominicans behave badly and one to do the work of a Prime Minister. Forget about the police, we only regard them opportunistically. It is the PM who has to do the work – all of it.

The Trinidad and Jamaica situation is longggggg standing. Good people have to imprison themselves in their own houses, and it is not getting better. The rest of the Caribeean is catching up including Dominica. So run PM get your clone to comment on every outragious misdeed Dominicans decide to do.

Go all out Mrs. PM. Find that thug immediately and walk him or them to the gallows at 6.30am and suspend them at 7.00 o’clock in the morning, sharp. No mercy, please. It is high time that we take those thugs and hoodlums in the caribbean back to the gallows once again. To hell with those so-called human rights organizations. They too need to be hanged as well. Let’s talk about it.

We should re introduce hanging all over the caribbean to many violent crimes happening within this region.

    February 23, 2011

We need to clamp down on this in the caribbean and work together as different countries. Because the habit of doing a crime in one country and living in another has to be taken away. That option must be eradicated. It can only work if governments work together. The islands are small and you cannot hide. But we need unity. And it’s not just death that is punishment. Hard labour too. We need to bring it back where these people give back for all they have taken. Have them build roads and schools and bridges. Give them the hard work. It will give police something to do at the same time. But let them work! Rather than feed on my money.

see what i mean about a leader that have her heart into her work,,,, a child been missing for almost a week now in d/ca and not one speech has been given by our p.m,,,, the special police task force they putting in would be used for such purposes i believe huh,,,, b4 using the state resources to protect one man why not use the same force to break down suspected homes,,,, go in n out of every village and investigate,,,, dominica is very small and that child can be found,,,, the sad thing is 65% of dominicans don’t even know that a child is missing,,, if many in the diaspora were to call home n ask their family if the know of such news the answer would be ‘no’……… mr skerrit we want to know how serious are u taking crime in dominica,,,, i can’t understand in lil dominica we have such crimes happening,,,, we not yet have int’l airport,,,, not yet have mariner,,,, not yet have 5 star hotel chains n casinoes,,,,,, and yet see where we are,,,,, so its obvious the criminals take our justice system for a joke,,,,, that’s why it’s effective as a leader to let ur voice be heard,,,, and i don’t care if the child went on her own,,,, at that point in time anyone harboring the child is a kidnapper and should be dealt with the strongest arm of the law if they don’t willingly deliver the child back home,,,,
