Two people died in a motor vehicle collision over the weekend.
“The collision occurred on the Edward Oliver Leblanc highway where it merges with Charles avenue in the vicinity of the building housing the Dominica Banana Marketing Corporation (DBMC) about 9:30pm on Saturday, 10th of august 2019,” police inspector Pellham Jno. Baptiste said in a report.
He continued, “The collision involved motor vehicle registration number PO952, owned and being driven at the time 38- year old Delano Dane Mcintyre of Fond Canie and motorcycle registration number PE589 owned by Kevin James and at the time was ridden by 30 year old Stephan Jean-Jacques of Tarish pit with 30 year old Nadia Nicolas of Tarish Pit as the pillion rider.”
According to Jno Baptiste, at the time of the collision, motorcycle registration number PE589 was travelling northwards on the Edward Oliver Leblanc Highway while motor vehicle registration number PO952 was turning into the Edward Oliver Leblanc Highway from Charles Avenue.
The riders of the motorcycle sustained injuries and were transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of Princess Margret Hospital (PMH) where they were medically examined and were officially pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Investigations are ongoing.
Dominica News Online (DNO) joins the Dominica Police Force in expressing condolences to family and friends of both deceased.
Is anyone going to tell carina to SHUT UP?? I will. SHUT UP CARINA!!!
Doesn’t Carrina N ring a bell?? That’s her sister.
This young fella, the McIntyre this is not the first time he in a reckless accident. Normally he has injured himself only, this time two lives were lost.
My deepest condolences to the relatives and close friends of the deceased. Road safety is taken too lightly in Dominica as with most other important issues. Examples: sample safety on construction sites; proper diet; criminality, etcetera. There is a lack of proper road signage, road markings, roundabouts and enforcement of traffic laws. Of course speeding and alcohol contributes to the carnage on the road. The irregular maintenance of vehicles should also be of great concern. There are so many things that need to be done or corrected in the country that just thinking about it gives any concerned patriot a monumental headache. We must demand much better from our elected officials. Our people must be much more caring, empathetic and disciplined.
My condolences to the family
I have stated over and over again that Roseau is in need of many many traffic lights. The insanity needs to end. There are to many fatal traffic accidents.
Traffic lights domt stop ACCIDENTS, they happen all over the world even with traffic lights. People especially Dominicans needs to be more careful on the road , i visited Dominica last may and i said to my friend or thats why Dominica has so many accidents. The recklessness i saw was baffling.
Everytime we have an accident in this country involving a motorbike the blame is always placed on the driver of the vehicle. This trend will only cause these types of accidents to continue happening because the real issue of the bikes is not dealt with. I’m sure many persons can give an experience of almost being hit by a bike but yet still when the accident happens because the bike is smaller it is never the issue.
I remember driving through the bath estate area and my vehicle was almost hit by those guys on the bike and you know what, they wanted to beat me up and I was at no fault. The police needs to make a clean up of those unliscened and uninsured bikes to start off with then tougten up on those traffic laws and charge those guys causing danger to themselves and others on those bikes.
Always saying that too but I suspect police afraid of them boys on scooters.
True! True! Dem man doe using dem head at all!!. I remember I was with a police officer get my licence and d police tell me to turn left to go up from laygon to go up bu d ministry area and I put my signal just about to turn and a fella pass me on a bike on my left side just before I turn. Crazy dem crazy in dem head
This is one accident and two deaths too many in an area where Traffic lights would have helped to prevent, or at least reduce, the possibility of accidents.
Other critical areas where traffic lights are needed are at Lindo Park intersection with Federation Drive (Lindo Mart) and at Bath Estate bridge next to Alliance Franciase.
We waiting for someone to be killed there first. And what is even more alarming is the fact that the ambulance which picks these injured people up is a cemetery in itself.
Imagine the young man who was stabbed in Mero recently, was taken to the St Joe medical facility. That facility don’t even have oxygen to administer to an injured person. What a shame.
Trust me Dominicans have no respect for bikes.i ride one so I kno.in these same intersections drivers would pull out on the highway while I’m coming.one guy told me he has my medicine just becuz I overtake him.
I bet he didn’t see the bike because the bike was behind of a vehicle out of view. Almost happened to me too .
PM that place need a traffic light
First, my condolences to the families.
As it stands, this is a dangerous junction. However, there is ample room for a large roundabout. A second roundabout could also be placed at the junction across from the entrance to Public Works. These measures would ease traffic flow and contribute to road safety. I accept the fact that we would have to educate drivers on the correct use of a roundabout.
We have many examples of incorrectly engineered roundabouts placed where they are not needed, but no examples of correctly engineered roundabouts placed where they are needed.
Still on the topic of road safety. Bus drivers that stop immediately before a pedestrian crossing and encourage passengers to cross in front of the vehicle, is another example of an accident waiting to happen.
Two words, Traffic Lights. Most bus drivers are illiterate.
Matt was too hasty in prejudging this unfortunate accident on Q95 this morning. Let the police experts aportion blame Matt. I was not there and can not even give my opinion. Was the rider of the motorbike licenced and insured and likewise the driver of the vehicle. Were they all sober and not the influence of alcohol or weed. Many question except one thing certain. Two people dead. That is a very dangerous junction a roundabout there is long overdue.
The most important question is whether the McIntyre guy was under the influence, since he was the one who hit them. ……………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………..
ADMIN: Thank you for the comments that attempted to address this.
It was oversight on our part to allow that comment in full and have since removed the portions that amount to rumour and speculation that were stated as fact.
We should all allow the investigation to run its course in order to determine the facts.
How did you came about that information? Do u work for the licensing department.. are you a judge? You cannot come to that conclusion wit hour evidence. . What you can say is that he may not have license or may have Been impaired..
However who to blame? If the polive has ample evidence then a charge of causing death by dangerous driving will be dropped on the driver.. for now let the investigation continue.
So saying most likely means that I came to a conclusion?
Carrina, your comment is like you were there at the time of the accident. Why can’t you people refrain from those deliberate lies you all keep spewing? Even if this is the mantra of UWP, please look before you leap. You all are too quick to condemn people without the relevant facts.
people like you, when you dont know nothing please dont say nothing. you quick to slay the young lady and label it political.
Carrina N…. people like you need to think before you speak. Mr . Mcintyre was not under the influence…. he also has a license, he also did not hit the bike…. do you know the bike actually hit him and another vehicle…. no one is calling the name of the other vehicle…but hey blame it on the minister’s son….do u know mr mcintyre is the one who called the ambulance… and sweety before u speak any more ruBbish mr mcintyre is also in the picture above…. STOP SPREAD PROPAGANDA
Since I was told to go by what is being posted, you are the one talking rubbish and spreading propaganda because the article didnt say the bike hit the car and it didnt mention a third car. So you are insinuating that the this site is not creditable. And I am not your sweety
Still waiting to see!
Wondering what is the problem this time.
Carina
Were you there? or you also engaging in propaganda.
How do you know if he was impaired? or how
do you know if he have a licence or not? Do you work for that department?.
You all Dominicans are really sick just always flapping you mouths when something happens and making it sound real without having all the information. Where were you at 9:30 pm? I can bet you did not witness the accident and you are just engaging in propaganda. Shame on you
Stop acting like a journalist and advice to you maybe you should not add your picture.
That is not smart
I have nothing to hide. And what made you think I was acting like a journalist and no is a journalist
Carina
What is your fascination with this particular story? why are you even insinuating? why your picture? why respond to each comment? why why why? I don’t get it girl. The only thing that comes to mind is you are either thirsty, looking for attention or playing a cheap political game because it is the son of the minister. Stop exploiting the story. You are not helping the family, you are not helping the police and based on all the comments people are not amused by your post, but then again for some any attention (positive or negative) is good attention. Go figure. Anyway Get a life and keep moving
To the person named “truth”on here. I am not looking for people to be amused with me but you sure seem to be. I mean you took the time to write me a paragraph right? This is my life. And I am extremely thisty for the truth.
So the people on the bike could not have been high on their weed or intoxicated with alcohol.. Were you at the scene? The guy did not hit and run. He is the one who even called the ambulance.
And the bike couldn’t be wrong??
By right if a vehicle is already advancing into a shoulder the on coming vehicle needs to slow down but no those bikes they just sweep their way through the little space acting like Superman. When they die now it’s always the driver of the vehicle.
But you know what it’s not my account to give because I wasn’t there
So if it wasnt your account and you dont know, take your own advice you giving me and not say anything to begin with.
THE THIRST IS REAL
Then remove the whole comment. Not piece
Another sad case of motorcycle deaths. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased. Would it be helpful in the interest of safety to enforce wearing of helmets? This would at the very least reduce the severity of injuries if not positively affecting the survivability outcome. Rate positive if you agree!
Why are there so many accidents in Dominica. Please fix the roads, teach traffic safety and implement more traffic laws. R.I.P to the young man and Lady. Prayers to their families.
it’s not the roads, it’s the PEOPLE!!
I agree, when there are fatal motor accidents its because of bad choices, bad decisions made by people.
Thank you..
The amount of nonsense those fellas on those bikes does do and no one talks about it when their is an accident is sad. Just last week a fella on a bike almost pick up my mother when she was crossing the street although the driver of the car indicated by hand signals that someone was crossing. Nobody talks about those things in this place and it’s sad.
Stop that nonsense. Where you live are there not the same types of accidents. People are reckless the world over.
I had the pleasure of visiting Dominican as a tourist for the sixth time over the last 20 yrs although I did Rent-A-Car I could experience that the driving in general on this island is dangerous not just because of the roads but because of the drivers. Many are always in a hurry driving way too fast.
Many thanks for this police-verified report, DNO, and thanks for blurring the images of the deceased. I have long advocated against the publication of images showing graphic details of accident victims. But can we take this a bit further in our thinking? Instead of a picture of a crowd of people gaping at the mutilated corpses of two people who have just lost their lives in an unfortunate accident, could you have presented instead a graphic showing the course and point of impact of the vehicles? Could the graphic, for instance, be animated to further enhance its effectiveness? This, I believe, would serve the needs of the public much better by pointing out what may have been the cause of the accident so we could be so forewarned, while the loved ones of the deceased (or injured) are permitted to deal with their loss privately. My two cents.
If you would notice, the article does not say much about the actual accident. We don’t know if the bike was heading north towards the intersection and ran into the vehicle as it was going west (towards the sea) and turning north in the same direction as the bike… neither do we know if the car upon turning hit the bike (which may have been in front of them) from the back. Therefore as good as your suggestion may sound, DNO cannot do that. Perhaps the police is still trying to figure that out.
When you look at that intersection, the road is flat, there are sidewalks on all sides, there is a median wide enough for a vehicle to park in the middle with space on each side, the area is well lit, there are no trees, buildings obstructing drivers’views… there is no obvious reasons for accidents to occur there.. people say its cursed. I don’t know.
How about possibly driver not paying close attention, distraction, unsafe speed, judgement or driver impairment…all these are possible contributors which would not make such accidents mysterious if we have the full details.
at every accident, Dominicans want to be all over the paramedics. Never want to have an established perimeter so the emergency people can do their work without having to tell people excuse me. Give the people room! In other places they section that off. you cannot come nowhere close to the scene. but here, as usual no standards.
It’s not just in Dominiva though. The proper question to be asked is where is the police who should be controlling the flow of traffic and setting up that said perimeter. The paramedics can only ask for the space to work. The police should be on location protecting the paramedics, persons involved such accidents and the general public. Setting up their tape so that the public doesn’t contaminate anything to do with their pending investigation.
Reading this completely broke my heart. My condolences to the families.
Would it have ruined his day to wait a few seconds instead of cutting Into the highway. Now 2 people are dead smh. Time for traffic lights in Dominica.
but the question is also would it have ruined their day if they had just waited for him to finish turning unto the highway before they tried to go across. Now they are dead. We do not know the details but we are always so quick to share our wealth of 2 cents. Whether or not this is his fault that is something he has to live with for the rest of his life the same way his family has to live with it. We tend to believe everyone is heartless like most and being the cause of someone’s death does not affect a person’s life but it does. So before we play God and judge put yourself in a persons position for one minute.
Since you putting your “two” cents, would it have hurt the driver to use proper judgement and allow the bike with the right of way pass before he turned into the highway? And in the case of being wrong what is wrong with living with it the rest of your life? At least you have life. 2 people dont. Thank God and make better judgement moving forward. Simple as that.
The same thing could be said for the driver
Condolances,to the families.SAD HOW OUR YOUNG PEOPLE CONTINUE TO LOSE THEIR LIVES,WE NEED BETTER TRAFFIC LAWS,AGAIN NO HELMETS WERE BEING WORN AND PROPER ATTIRE.
