It’s difficult to ascertain what happened in this situation, however whenever a vehicle rolls over, the likelihood of death is much greater versus a vehicle that remains upright. I’m curious to learn if there were any guard rails that would have prevented him from slamming into that mango tree? I don’t think we understand the impact of force during that accident. If he was traveling at 40 miles an hour and his vehicle weighs 2500 pounds, the amount of force at impact is: 2500 pounds multiplied by the speed of the vehicle. It’s the same reason why a 20 pound bird can destroy a jet engine traveling at 500 miles per hour. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Saying “sorry” and R.I.P” will never be enough but that’s all that we can do when all is said and done.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our brother Zara Shaw.
And I’m looking at the photos on dno and it looks like the guy in purple at the scene of the accident is wearing a plastic bag on his hands instead of gloves? Is that how bad it is now in DA.?
Come On, we can do better.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be the fault of the driver.

I think the authorities need to take a hard long look at those “recon” and used vehicles they are letting into the country.

And no, I am not a car dealer or anything like that. As somebody rightly mentioned, the vehicle in question does not even look that banged up.

Then again, the young man was probably not wearing his seatbelt. Who knows?

      August 21, 2017

First and foremost let me just sympathize with the family of the young man. Hope God give them strength in their time of grief
Risperdalchild not only do you sound like an expert in car making, but you sound like you were there when the accident occurred. You are assuming that the gentleman did not have a seat belt on. Why do not you just wait for the facts to be released instead of playing detective.
A vehicle cannot move unless someone drives it. While it is true that some vehicles are faster than others a driver should know his vehicle and drive accordingly.
Too many young men are dying by death of vehicles. It is time that people start respecting their lives and drive withing the speed limit. Everyone is saying the devil is on the rise, but that is not correct. Stupidity, carelessness for self and the safety of others are on the rise, and inexperience drivers who are making life very unsafe in this. It is not the Devil and it is not Roosevelt Skerrit and his government.

      August 21, 2017

Even if a vehicle has a defect or is not well maintained and it caused an accident, the severity of the accident weighs heavily on the speed at which the person was driving. Up a hill or on flat, to crash so hard to even cause death, tell me if is the vehicle you blaming. Excuses will only get more people dead and not solve the problem.

I agree with you, there are so many recalls from the manufacturers. I do hope Dominica in always included. I know we have terrible roads and lots of speeding but one has to consider if all these accidents are not faulty vehicles being sold to us. There should be some investigation into this issue.

I’m sorry to hear about another loss of life. The location where this happened has some very deceptively dangerous bends, which should not be negotiated at speed.

That is all well and good, but drivers need to be more careful when they are behind the wheel. I do not understand the hurry. Dominica is not a large country and nobody respects time, so why the rush?

    • Dominican
      August 21, 2017

Definitely the laws. Do we have a traffic police or don’t we? What happened to all these motorbikes the Chinese gave us some years ago? Has anybody ever been prosecuted for speeding or driving under the influence, do our police even have breathalizers? Do they stop and fine people for not wearing their seat belts or using their phones while driving? Do they check new- & old drivers’ eyesight? Dominica is free so we must pay the price but honestlt that traffic police is a joke.

Every weekend this things are happening, lots of drinking, crack smoking , and everything else ,our young males are being kill by the dozens our male population is dwindling at a high rate of speed ,, this thing got to stop , we need public service announcement on T.V. and radio to educate the people about drinking and driving, the police need to establish check points and do sobriety checks to stop the carnage and blood bath this got to stop, the bars need to be held accountable, if you know some one is drunk and have to drive don’t sell to him or her, we need the mothers here to form [MADD] like in Amerikka it is call mothers against drunk driving ,for those of you who don’t know google it, I cant explain it on DNO, it to long to explain, but it has save a lot of life’s in the U. S.

      August 21, 2017

Stop the hyperbole. Our young men are not dying by the dozens. At that rate there would have been a noticeable imbalance on the gender ratio.

Drivers need to exercise caution when they are behind the wheel and every occupant of the vehicles need to be securely fasten with their safety belts. If they do these two simple things, the fatality rate would plummet.

When we have people drinking and driving and driving like total idiots, that is the result of these poor decisions on their part.

      This is not rocket science.

Why are there so many vehicular accidents in which so many of them resulting in fatalities?. Is it the conditions of the roads or human errors? The relevant authorities need to investigate and identify the specific reasons for the cause(s) of these accidents, and where possible, take remedial actions to mitigate the loss of lives. Sincerest condolences to the entire family of the deceased in your hour of bereavement.

If you drive in Dominica and you see the way the young people race up and down the road you will understand why we have so many death by accidents. You will hear our people blame govt, domlec, dowasco and everything else except their children who party hard all weekend, do not sleep and drive like crazy. They overtake six vehicles at a time nonstop, They racing to go everywhere but they are still never on time. How many women you hear crashing? Both men and women drive on the same road but men are the ones crashing why? The govt? the lamp post? the concrete? They love women and hate men? The jumbies prefer to take men?

did he die because of the crash..or did he crash because he died… because people have walked away from far worse crashes. The vehicle does not look damaged enough that one would assume death as a result.
