An 11:30am update by the authorities here suggests that it is highly unlike that suspicious activity witnessed over the sea off Salibia on Monday night was an airplane crash as some eyewitnesses have suggested.
Head of the Dominica Airport and Sea Port Authority (DASPA), Benoit Bardouille, told Dominica News Online that searches in the pinpointed area had yielded no debris.
Bardouille said what was even more telling, was that no loss of official air activity had been reported by the people involved in air traffic control operations at airports in Dominica and the neighboring islands.
Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector John Carbon said searches overnight had yielded nothing.
Bardouille had reported earlier on Tuesday that all aircraft which were scheduled to land or take off at Melville Hall Airport had been accounted for, and that French authorities in the neighboring islands were also reporting that their planes were all accounted for.
There however remain persistent suggestions that the “ball of fire” seen by some eyewitnesses on Monday evening was a plane crashing into the sea.
Dominica News Online was informed on Monday evening by an eyewitness that the incident actually involved a waterspout. A waterspout is a rotating column of water and spray formed by a whirlwind occurring over the sea or other body of water.
The eyewitness said based on his observation the incident was not a plane crash as he did not see any fireball as reported by other eyewitnesses.
DNO is still following this story and will publish additional information when it becomes available.

But I can definitely say I saw a ball of fire in the Portsmouth area at about 8:15 it lasted for couple seconds, I was about to make a wish when I realized tgat was not a falling star. I grabbed on to the arms of the person that was sitting with me on the porch, and remained speechless, until he asked me what’s the matter, I told him he won’t believe me, and that he will think I was seeing things, but he did believe me because he said he could see the expression on my face changed instantly and I was staring blank at something. I wonder if anybody else in the Portsmouth area saw that. It disapperad rather quickly though.

just so you guys know, i was just informed by sum1 that a white object possibly part of a plane was seen by a few persons floating along the shores of Castle Bruce today. And that the helicopter taking part in the so called search last nite HAD NO SEARCH LIGHTS or well it was not visible from land, only saw the flashing (beacon ) lights on the helicopter….i really hope that this is not true

We are too quick to discredit our people. There are two different eyewitness accounts… the people who saw a ball of fire are obviously not the same ones who saw the waterspout. The people who saw the fireball from the carib territory are not stupid, they would know a waterspout if they saw one; they look alot like tornadoes, which everybody has seen pictures of on TV. These are two very different events. What the people in the Carib territory saw was seen by other people all around the world. There was a meteor shower last night and you can see similar reports from around the world by searching online. Google is free people!!! Good Morning Dominica, Well based on my review of the video this look like a small Tornado and the reflection of lightning on the water and clouds which caused this red reflection. One can also see the whirling wind funnel- shaped cloud and clearly hear the people on the video asking if it touch down and it can take you. Another thing don’t the Aviation Authorities in Dominica track all planes in our airspace.

This to me, would be a better explanation why some people saw fire and why Anderson saw this “waterspout”, or maybe there was intense lightning which sparked fire and then caused the waterspout. None of the assumptions are ridiculous unless we have proof of what really happened, (although the souckouyant story is far-fetched). I find it incredibly impossible to believe that the people up at Melville Hall would be completely oblivious to a plane that was either supposed to land at THEIR airport, or even just a passing by plane!
