The police are reporting that they are carrying out investigations into Thursday’s death of 40-year-old Joey Casimir of Vieille Case.
Reports are that Casimir, who has been living in Canefield, fell off a dump truck which was on its way to a construction site in Cockrane.
The incident occurred at 7:30 am.
The police say Casimir sustained multiple injuries in the fall and was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The truck was being driven by Kurt Prentice of Canefield.
A post mortem is expected to be performed and a coroner’s inquest will be convened, the police said.
Shocked.
Mrs Joseph and Family. I am so sad to hear about Joey’s Death. I know that God with give you and the rest of your family the strenght you need in your time of grief.
R.I.P Joey. God must have needed another Angel by his side.
sad to read some of the comments mad about the death of my brother…tut tut tut….but yet still the world continue to spins…and the love that you left will comfort the hearts that was touched by your departure…not something i expected but have to accept it for what it is….i can’t bring you back but your love as a lil brother will stitch the shredded pieces of my heart knowing that i won’t see you again bro….look over us your love ones and take care bro…your an angel now
This is soo….. hard .To Teacher Charlotte and the rest of the family, May the good Lord bring comfort to your grieving souls, and To my good friend Helen, God,s guidance.
when are we ever going to learn, that humans are not cargo or trash to be dumped in the back of trucks, dumpers, piuckups, ?? when will we ever learn. no Insurance is going to pay patat, de person dat said if he has insurance. such nonsense. we must stop going in the back of trucks pickups etc ,. we are humnas not cargo not trash. infact it should be illegal to allow any humans in the back of vehicles such as pickus, trucks, dumpers etc.
Calibishie;
Who told you Joey was sleeping on the truck?
Everyone has different theories of what happened. The only person that could tell the TRUTH is gone.
The driver himself may only be assuming what happened.
The family is in mourning, they do not need any type of negativity at this time. Let the family mourn the loss of their beloved, and let all assumptions stay where they belong.
RIP Joey. You will surely be missed in River Estate (inside by Marinor). You are gone but will never be forgotten. Was looking forward to you fixing my home boy.
Dont no much about him since we have grown up but i am glad to have shared my childhood days with Joey playing trafic and police racing with sek around v.c and so much other games. such memories will always be in my heart of you bro may you RIP to the family God is in the mist of everything trust in him.

I now find strength to read the news and all the comments..to those expressing condolences thank you all on behalf of the family.joey’s death has opened an opportunity for deep introspection as he lived a life of giving his last and staying without, sharing and loving unconditionally family and stranger alike much like Jesus did.only God can get us past this.
Mrs.Joseph,my deepest condolences to you and the rest of your family. I know what it is to lose a young and vibrant loved one. It’s really tough but somehow God gives us the strength to carry on.From what I heard, JOEY was quite a gentle man, was always smiling, helpful and maintained a positive attitude. May his great memories live on within your hearts forever and may you find comfort to move on. Be strong. RIP Joey!!!!!!

BE STRONG NURSE,
This is a great loss for us in V/case
Joey and I live just a stone throw away. Went to the same primary school and high school. Played together on the same sports teams
PSS under 19 cricket and Itassi youngsters football club we hitch hiked together like 2 days out of the week in our time at PSS we went swimming at the same bay ( otou) man we just had reckless abandon fun and good time. Now I was hoping to see him when I come back home and his gone ; man that hurts my heart even when I became a police officer this guy gave me his full respect while I gave him his. Every time I came home he would shout “Snakey what the vibes man” I hadn’t seen him for the last 14 years and now I’ll have to wait when we meet in heaven cause I remembered when he gave his life to Christ. Teacher Charlotte you’ve been a stalwart in my life and my prayers go out to you and the kids I pray that the children of Itassie will rally in support all around
you I’m pleading with all former Itassi youngsters teammates who r back home to go show your support. One love snakey
who is snakey
Sad sad sad..Great sports man and greater person. Enjoyed playing sport with you during our PSS days. R.I.P. my friend.
RIP joey…may God strengthen your family in this time of grief…..
@ well….may joey soul rest in peace but u c how bad u b…i am a driver as well…so if u ask mke for a ride or ur family…wat u saying ???? doh give u ride????? well i will stop give ppl ride cuz when u give dem is problem u putting urself in
Me, no one is advocate you stop your sense of caring and generosity. In fact, we are saying to improve it, but take the necessary caution – such as insisting that your patrons ride safely, that they buckle up their seat belts, that they adhere to the rules of safe driving and trafficking.
Is this too much to ask?
“Real Possie” you clearly have no decorum and obviously you seriously need help for you to come on a public forum and ask such a question. The only thing I can say is – God be with you. RIP Joey.
oh i new rasta, when rasta will come around he will make everybody laugh or put a smile on their face,he use to call my friend baby so loud when he aproching and the whole neighbour hood will know that he is around, and then she will shout my love, ohhhh and he will smile and say to her you made my night, he was a good person. may he rest in peace, my heart goes out to his family and friends.
Boy i cant believe my padna gone!!! Good sports man, we played alot of Cricket for PSS together.. May your soul rest in place Rasta!!!!
Joey, Joey Joey…. Last time that we saw each other you made me laugh soooo much, as you always did. I thank God for having allowed me to have been blessed with a cousin who loved the way that you did. You are special to me. May the angels guide you home. We will miss you.

@ Kurt Penrice i do hope your insurance in order cause I know how you drive as though the road is yours. a couple weeks ago my brother fell off a truck same way hurting his hand and breaking a rib. Why because the truck driver went around the bend by the Springfield too fast.
everyone speeds at one time or another. but since i suspect you saying these things with very little information to back it up the guy who died did not fall off cause of reckless driving he actually fainted while on the truck and could no longer hold on (as he became unconscious) and fell off breaking his neck due to the fall.
Rasta dont die but Rasta man work live on R.I.P Joey InI a celebrate his life and not death ,your brother , brethren and family in Bioche and Dublanc.Positive memories.
God gave everyone a soul. The body dies. If their souls are in Heaven, they live on happily forever. If in Hell, their souls are actually dead with intense suffering forever. It all depends how we live in God and God alone.
Their works may live on but what type of works? Are they good or bad?
We reside in an era which down through the ages some people have adopted all sorts of beliefs and gods except the One and Only True God who created them. This is due to the false prophets of our time.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Many will come in My Name …so as to deceive the elect.” They place themselves as God. Many have followed those false prophets.
It is widely known that Rastas have rejected God and worship a man, Haille Salasie as God. Ganga and the likes are their god as well. They call it their religion and practice and also call it herbs.
Salasie is no God and not to be compared with God; never at par with our God. God created him. He could never be greater than God. He is not a deity. He is another one I wonder where his soul is in eternity. Those who died surely know where his soul is. I bet that God gave them a view of him to show them their error and the path which they will take with them for all eternity.
Mrs Joseph
I’m sorry for such great loss, I pray that God will continue to strengthen you and your family in this time of grief. hold unto the mighty habds of God, he will definitely keep you strong.
past student(penville).
Deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of this young man. A real sad tragedy, I don’t want to walk in the shoes of the driver right now.
Island living can be carefree living, we take so much for granted even when we know the risks, we throw caution to the wind. I hope his passing will be a wake up call for all of us to be more careful
So how come it have people clicking dislike under comments where people give condolences to the family?
Boy that place have some real sick people we. No wonder….no wonder…and no wonder…
They either stupid, they not pointing the arrow to click properly, or they just plain sick for true!!
Thank you Met Yo.. I just don’t get it with some of these ppl.
Why are these guys sleeping on these vehicles? Don’t they know that this is a dangerous practice?! Sad indeed.
Known you since I was a little girl you will truly be missed xx
From the Lord we came and to the Lord we shall return…!!!
@ anon.
We hope for all of us. We know where we came from. Do we all know where we will end up for all eternity? Let us not deceive ourselves and others. It depends on our lifestyle if we will end up with the Lord forever. Pray for this and for others.
It really sickens me when people who have no idea what they are talking about leave dumb comments. What the heck does transportation laws, seat belts, helmet, hard times in a country, have to do with the death of this man. Before you all leave idiot comments get the facts. Or even better, keep your trap shut. (Best u say sympathy to loved ones and fsmily) and end it there. Stop being inconsiderate a-holes at a time like this, and find another way to enlighten us of you all stupidity. The people know themselves.
who the hell you think you are to tell people what they should write, this is democracy, you need to keep your crap attitude legit, laws and seat belts plus helmets is albout public safety when comes road users, this lawlesness and vehicular loss of life needs to come to a halt, you think coming on here on DNO and shoot of your trap can scare people, people like you need to get slap off.

Charlotte, I feel for you right now. I have an idea of what you are going through. I’m still feeling the pain of my loss, Terry; however, comfort comes in many different ways. Have FAITH, God is always with you, though it may not seem so. Have HOPE God’s love surrounds you much more than you know. Have PEACE, God has a special plan just for you. Have JOY, for always, come what may, God will help to see you hrough. Footnote, Terry always said “mom, everything is going to be alright.” Comfort yourself with the joyous memories of Joey, your special moments together, and most of all his love for you.
Charlotte my deepest condlences to you and rest

when this photo was shown months ago,i saw comments in response in full favor of that behavour,it has finally dawned,so sorry to say dominicans are the most stupid thinking people in the caribbean, lawmakers in dominica need to pass laws, that motorcycle should wear a helmet, when operating on the streets of dominica, and put an end to all this backwards behavour.
are you serious ?
Where are you from bro? The stupidity reflects in your comments. Check yourself.
wher d hell does helmet and bike comes onw hen he fell from a truck? @forreal you are such an idot!
smart did you read the last sentence.
dat’s y i don’t give ride at the back of my pickup

Was he hichting a ride , or was he working with the truck driver, to a construction site?.
I know transportation is hard in dominica, but in most developing countries it is illegal to ride on , or in the back of an open truck.
This is a sad incident and my condolences go to the friends and family of the deceased.
However, I am surprised that not more injuries and fatalities arise from riding in the open back of vehicles – particularly children riding in the back of pick-ups. Unfortunately, the frequency of public transport leaves many with no option. Those riding in the open back of vehicles are not covered by the driver’s insurance.
What’s your point? Transportation is not harder in Dominica than anywhere else, worldwide.
Bondiere oiye…buh where you be living nuh? Yes, transportation so hard, they still using cabouwey and bouwick to get around. stupesssssssssssssss
I agree. I recall seeing a Photo of the Day which was posted on DNO (was it last year?) that some people where riding in the back of a pick-up truck. It looked unsafe. What if it got into an accident? They could have either been injured or could have died.
It does not matter where I live. Transportation is not harder in Dominica than anywhere else worldwide. Where do you live? “cabouwey and bouwick” If I did not have my very own transportation I would be standing at the bus stop waiting for public transportation. Before I had my own that’s what I did, rain or shine, for many years. You are “stupes.”
Mr. Burnett, there’s nothing called “DRIVER’S INSURANCE.” Every vehicle should carry PIP (personal injury protection) insurance, so whenever there is an accident of any kind the victim(s) would be covered. I agree with some of your comment; however, I disagree with you on that one. “Those riding in the open back of vehicles are not covered by the driver’s insurance”. If that’s the case, the drivers should not allow “passengers, those riding in the open back of vehicles, because they are not covered by the driver’s insurance, to ride in their vehicles, or they should only have the driver’s seat in their vehicles. What and/or who is covered anyway? My insurance covers comp and collision,PIP,and uninsured motorists. Don’t you think these should be under consideration by the insurance companies so passengers would be protected, and not just vehicle and its drivers?
He was working with the team.
Unfortunate and really sad. Really sad. Gone on to a better place, I hope. And so young.
One wonders if his death was untimely – if there is such a thing.
Still, it need be said that some things can be avoided. This may have been one of them. I remember the days when the police maintained a kind of monitoring of the traffic, and when they perused the highways (if we could call them that) with great vigilance. Such incidents did not happen then.
Hope the family can find comfort and peace. And I pray that we up our awareness that the dark hand of Lucifer is gaining momentum and stealing our youth.
Truth Seeker, death can not be avoided. We think that we can avoid it but that is not true. I believe those involved in accidents such as this and survived it was not their moment. When death occurs it is that moment.
I don’t agree. Stupid decisions can lead to catastrophic results. In this case, it was unwise to sleep on a dump truck while it is moving-especially on Dominica roads.I feel sad for the brother.
The Bible says in Psalms that our years are seventy or eighty. Anything before that is dying before your time. It also says time and unforeseen occurences befall us all, so we can get into an accident at any time and our life be prematurely cut short. That is the nature of this imperfect life we inherited from our first parents Adam and Eve. This is so sad… my sympathies go out to Joey’s family and friends.
RIP. Joey!! Condolences to Teacher Charlotte, his siblings, and the rest of his family. He was born the same year as my son,1973 and attended PSS. together. Today is a sad day for me. But he will be remembered fondly by my family.
??Then he would be 39 not 40. so sad
@ Belle plz don’t take this the wrong way just want to know is this the joey when he was small he had a wetting problem? there was a joey there i just stayed there for a short time alawys wondered what became of him could u tell me if thats him thanks.
If he had a wetting problem or not, why make it an issure? All of us once had wetting problems which is why pampers and depends are available. Nobody wants to know whether or not he had a wetting problem ok. He is dead and can’t defend himself, so just let him be and let him rest in peace. Next time , maybe you should let us know of your problem(s). I don’t like people who are too quick to bring out any faults in others. we are all human beings….none of us is perfect
I know some of u wld take it out of text the guy was my buddy in kindergarten but i left and never went back there just a week ago i talked about the guy m belle said they knew him young thats the only way i wld know for sure if thats him thats y i say don’t take it the wrong way.
My goodness ‘Real Possie”, have a heart my friend. It cannot be so important for you to find out who this person is that you should mention such a thing on a public forum, having ‘APOLOGISED’ to the family member. My my!!! This is just unbelievable how heartless and foolish some of us can be. You need to respect the family which is grieving and have respect for the young man who has sadly lost his life. You must also realise that you are representing the population of your country on a worldwide media forum when you write on the net and you are misrepresenting their intelligence when you write such disrespectful rubbish on the net brotherman. Think before you speak!!!
I agree with you 100% Dominican. Why was this small detail so important to you real possie? He is not even around anymore and it is so important for you to know who he is that you would write something so insensitive. These are the comments DNO needs to not publish.
@Really (IGNORAT) Possie…. You are a sick person. YOu need help. I personally hope you NEVER loose any member for you family..
REALLY? real possie?. I see you have some kind of personal vendetta against the dead from the time of kindergarten and not even with him passing will take it away. Poor guy maybe went through hell being among people like you. Of all things eh, that’s all you can remember about him? You are just as heartless and wicked. At least have some sympathy. No need apologizing…the damage has already been done
The seat belt law need to be taken more seriously in DA, because if both drivers and passengers were taking it serious, the driver would not have the guy sleeping on top of the moving vehicle, this would not have happened, this is something that could have been prevented
May his souls RIP
who said joey was sleeping on the truck? But DNO the picture doesnt relate to the article. you guys didnt say that joey was sleepin on the truck and the picture sayin about sleepin on truck. goush man!
ADMIN: The picture is a generic graphic we normally use with stories. The caption never said it was the man involved in the accident. It only said “sights like this (what is seen in the picture) is common in Dominica. Read carefully please.
he was not sleeping on the truck he justt turned for a moment to wave at a friend
did u read the news? he was not the one sleeping at the back of the truck, that was an example.
Oh This is very sad and unfortunate. It is so dangerous but at the same time nice of the truck driver to even stop to give a ride. It is so tight to get a bus sometimes. Something Dominica really needs better transportation for the people who do not have their own vehicle. Sorry for both of them R.I.P.
The driver did not give him a ride. He was a member of his construction team.
Oh dear! Sad indeed. May his soul rest in peace. I trust that we all learn from this incident that is is unsafe to sit on top/at the back of those trucks. While accidents will happen, those which can be avoided should be avoided.
stupid
I have been devastated since learning about this earlier today. Can’t stop crying at all. Sweet Rest to my former PSS class-mate. Much peace and strength to his mom and the rest of family.
So sad. R.I.P Joey
R.I.P TIDDLE, VIEILLE WILL SURELY MISS YOU, WE WILL FOREVER CHERISH THE FOOTPRINTS THAT YOU HAVE LEFT BEHIND, TEACHER CHARLOTTE, WAWAL, VALDA, VERNON AND VERNEL BE STRONG. TAKE COMFORT IN THE MANY LIVES JOEY TOUCHED. R.I.P F.J.T CASIMIR

So sad, rest in peace my former school mate.
R.I.P Joey. we will miss you in Bioche…
So so sad……people safety, safety. We take a lot of chances riding behind open vehicles.
Young man, this must be extremely hard for the family. Be strong, no matter what God is still in control.
