A construction worker from Vieille Case is dead following an accident in Picard, Portsmouth on Thursday afternoon.
He has been identified as Hails Honore, 52.
According to the police, Honore was the foreman on a project, near Ross University, and was on a roof of a four-storey building with his son hoisting material via a pulley when he lost his footing.
He fell 42 feet.
Honore was treated on the scene by medics from the nearby Ross University and was transported to the hospital in Portsmouth.
He died at the hospital.
A coroners inquest and post mortem will be performed.
Rip hails
Very Sad indeed. My condolences to his friends and family.
I hope his death is not in vain and it sparks the authorities to enforce security measures in construction.
In this day and age, I am still saddened when I see the lack of safe practices in our construction industry. While the US is not a perfect country, they have 29CFR-1910 and 29CFR-1926 that deals with workplace safety. We have so many professionals in the diaspora who can help us look into regulating our industry yet we don’t take advantage of their expertise because they are Dominicans. Everytime some gets seriously hurt or killed we revisit the sad and sympathy notes but soon forget to implement lessons learned. What is it going to take for us to realize that SAFETY FIRST may just require legislation and enforcement?
I implore the government to create some industrial safety and environmental agency modeled after the US Occupation Safety & Health Administration. There should have been a serious investigation into the accident (not by police because they don’t have a clue in industrial safety practices). We have a bunch of professionals in that area living in the US state of Texas in particular. People like Maximea Vigilante, Peter Challenger, Mossy Drigo and others who do this on a daily basis including accident/ incident investigations. There is this other one who goes all over the world teaching industry courses and I am certain these guys have a lot to offer in reshaping safety in our beautiful Dominica.
Please Dominica let us take the lead and protect our workers. When I see the quality of scaffolds used when building houses in Dca I cringe. Just about 1 year ago we had one collapse with a father and son from Salisbury almost costing them their life.
May the soul of Mr. Honore RIP and his family be comforted in their time grief.
Assertive, NOT Agressive!

true. i saw them myself too and was not sure what they were wearing till my husband told me the ropes were to secure them just in case they fell. true. i totally agree with you.
Make use of a dictionary
And some still die. Ropes do not prevent death.
My deepest condolences to the Honore family and the people of Ti Ravine. Why do the thoughts keep coming that the Vieille Case men are paying with their lives. Sacrifices and the families are accepting financial aid to bury their loved ones.Time will tell.
That’s not the time to say negative things, if you don’t have anything good to say be quiet.
You are such an idiot of making such comment at this tragic moment.
Boi
I worked with him and to tell you the truth it’s a sad moment, not only for me but construction workers island wide.
This guy fell from the very top of a four story building which is probably over 50 feet.
Contractors most start to put safety measures in place for their workers, unless someone is not dead nothing will not be done.
RIP Hailz. Gone but not forgotten.
