Activities in observance of African Liberation Day underway

The Africa Planning Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, has planned a list of activities for this year’s celebration of Africa week.

Celebrations began on Monday May 20th, 2019 and will end on Saturday May 25th, 2019 which is recognized as International Africa Day.

In an interview with DNO, the Chairman of the Dominica Reparations Committee, Dr. Damian Dublin said the focus of Africa week is to raise awareness on African history.

“The focus this week really, is to get people to increase their knowledge and awareness on Africa and realize as descendants of enslaved Africans, we have to find out more about our heritage. We also want to focus on the fact that Africa was a mighty civilization,” he said.

“We started with series of media programs on all radio stations and this will continue all through the week,” Dr. Dublin continued. “This Thursday, at the old market place on the 23rd of May at 7:00pm, we should be having a history night where Mr. Franklyn Georges, a well-known Pan Africanist, will be presenting on “Unifying the Black Race”. At that same event, we will be showcasing some videos of relevance to the African cause and create awareness of Africa and its achievement.”

He said Friday May 24, will be ‘Africa Dress Day’. What we are hoping is that every Dominican will dress in some African wear, going to work, to school and just all around to create that awareness and also that self-consciousness to be part of the whole movement. In the evening of the 24th of May we are having an African dress fashion show at the Harlem Plaza starting at 8:00pm. In that… we are collaborating with the All Saints University and our local people to put out some fashion. There will also be some cultural performances.”

Other events taking place on Friday include the Under 15 African Liberation Youth Cup from 10am-2pm at Newtown Savannah and a drumming session at Four Corners by the old Muslim Store at 6 am.

On Saturday May 25th, there will be a street parade starting at the Barracoon building at Bayfront from 3:00pm with various stops at significant places including the Trade Union building in Lagoon, the Old Market Plaza, the monument next to the people’s park and at the Harlem Plaza where solidarity messages and cultural performances will be showcased.

Dublin is encouraging all Dominican citizens to support and participate in this celebration.

So Skerrit has to be involved in African Liberation. When ever some people want to criticize an event Skerrit must be mentioned. It seems these people need to be mentally liberated from their negativity.
As for African Liberation Day celebration this movement is no longer relevant. If anyone is interested in the history of Africa there are a lot of books on this. The net is full of information and reference points. The good Doctor is just seeking headline attention. The hairstyle and dress at those celebrations look like the mental conditioning of halowin. I would really like to learn which country or tribe dress code is to look like dirty rags.

African liberation day teaches nothing to the descendants of the Trans Atlantic slave trade.
Africa is a continent with many nations of whom, some were complicit in slavery.
For so long these so called educated “Black leaders” with their doctorates from white institutions have been banging that same drum with the same old sound bites in search of relevance while knowing themselves that nothing will be achieved.

Damian, that is a total waste of time!
In the interim you will one day discover the fact that Africans are not interested  West Indians of African decent!
Black people in the Caribbean, and the Americas, and even Europe, as long as they are not born on the continent of Africa, are considered children of Slaves!
I was told that to my face in England!
And if you want to talk about the history of salves, and the four hundred years of brutality, don’t blame the white man who was part of it as you all do; blame it on our ancestors who willingly sold our forefathers into slavery!
This clinch fists thing is nonsense, think of the Dominica welfare, our economy, economic power we need to develop, that is more essential!
    Africans don’t love you!

Most of the activities sound so superficial.Wonder how Dr Dublin’s ancestors will judge him.

You need to start liberation of your mind before talking to people. You not even free. You continue to use slavery tactics to enslave the people of Dominica. What is really your position or function on the Commission?

Dublin talking about liberation but supports the nonsense going taking place in Dominica, give me a break. Liberate DOMINICA first before Africa.

Oh yes he is one of the ones who speak with forked tongue.
He has an undying support for skeritt and his nonsense, the same skeritt who laughs at the opposition because they support our African brothers of the Western Sahara who have been fight arab oppression, fighting for their freedom and getting bashed by skeritt for a few dollars. I wonder how dublin balances that with skeritt.
