On Tuesday, Dominica Agricultural Producers and Exporters Limited (DAPEX) sent its first ever air shipment of cargo to Barbados. In the past two years DAPEX has been focusing its efforts on Barbados and the regional market.
In recent times, LIAT officials confirmed that air cargo services being provided for Dominica were not being fully utilized.
Errol Emmanuel, general manager of DAPEX, says he is pleased DAPEX was able to export cargo occupying the full capacity of the plane and for the first time ginger was part of the export portfolio.
“The capacity of the plane is about 7,000 lbs and we exported the full capacity of the aircraft, that is, 7 000 pounds with three different products: bananas, plantains and ginger,” he said.
DAPEX is also seeking to export goods other than bananas and Emmanuel is urging all farmers to participate in the economic growth of the country.
“And we do want to encourage other farmers. There are a number of other crops that we are seeking to export: spices, nutmegs, papayas and a range of other crops. Therefore, we just want to find out exactly what the production level is and to also seek to have collaboration with the government so that we can get the required production to supply those very important markets. The region holds promise in agriculture and we should continue to do all we can to secure these very valuable regional markets for Dominica and agriculture in Dominica,” he said.
According to Emmanuel, DAPEX is seeking to become the leading agricultural exporter of fresh produce in Dominica.
“We have had the experience of fresh produce exports to the United Kingdom. We now want to bring that experience to bear on the other crops that are grown in Dominica with the similar type of production, scheduling and planning that is required to inform the market of what volumes/quantities that you have and the question of quality packaging. We have that experience and so DAPEX is positioning itself to becoming the major fresh produce exporter for Dominica and thereby giving the farmers the confidence that they can grow other crops on a commercial level,” he said.
Respect to Dapex for its hard work in securing Dominica the Nature Island, fresh product to Barbodos and the region. To Mr.Emanuel jah bless this man and his very hard working staff and the farmers of Dominica for their commitment to Agriculture. Just remember presentation is equally important as taste!
Respect Agriculture.. we need it here and they need US overseas… let us do good let us continue these types of efforts. feed the hungry and needy with golden dominican nourishment. Big Big up to the DAPEX staff, they have been through enough, they are persistant and resiliant. Bless Mr. Emanuel and His staff and all farmers and the entire agriculture industry.
this is good business; since the country is already having a defecit in trade this could be a way that we increase our import levels and hoping we find ways or alternative sources so we dont have to import as many goods. Keep up the good works and put the Almighty in everything with him he can do exceeding and above all that we can ask or think.
It is only wat we can think we can ask and he is able to do more than the capacity of the human brain so keep believing and keep exporting!!!
Good Vybez! Keep it up and we could see an improvement in the Agriculture Industry! Dont forget your target is regional…dont forget Antigua and the rest of the Caribbean Islands,
Very good LIAT. Very good! Think of the other island as well, like us in Montserrat and St. Bart
I thought plantain was scarce? Good going DAPEX. It’s about time we export more than we import.
this is what i want to see happening,,,, regardless what blackmore n them say,,,, agriculture is the industry we must never leave by the wayside,,,, agriculture should be developed hand in hand with tourism,,,, we should be investing in production plant for agricultural produce,,,, i really hope that farmers will increase in the production of organic food,,,, i am calling on all students at the state college to let u all know if u all don’t,,,, that the inorganic seeds that they give us are not good,,,, these has dangerous health defects in the long-term,,,, we should concern with growing healthy food than making a quick buck which kills our target market,,,, all farmers should get back to organic farming,,,,,,,
i agree with you mouth of the south these so called idiots we have running our country have no idea what is going on.the world has a shortage of food and we have the perfect soil to export our produce.they need to be educated, but they are more interested in making the dirty deals with the chinese and venezuelans.
