Representatives of Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica Hotel association promoted visits to Dominica at the Carrefour Destreland Mall in Guadeloupe on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd June, 2012.

The mall exhibition was geared at encouraging more visitors from Guadeloupe to travel to Dominica during the summer vacation, according to Daphne Vidal of the Discover Dominica Authority.

“We are expecting that our visits to Dominica from Guadeloupe will increase, because people who want to go on vacation may not be sure where to go and what to do, so we are here to show them some of what we have to offer in Dominica, such as our Kalinago heritage and territory, our waterfalls and other discovery tours around Dominica,” Vidal stated.

She also said, “for the past year, more than 25 percent of our visitors to Dominica come from Guadeloupe, so we consider Guadeloupe a very important market, this is why we have to do all in our effort to maintain the market.”

A Fort Young Hotel representative also highlighted the importance of the promotional effort undertaken.

“We know that the French are very much interested in getting away for the weekends so I think Dominica, especially the Fort Young Hotel is the ideal spot for them, therefore we have put together a special package especially for the summer vacation for them, and I know they will get excited about it.” She said.

Daryl Aaron represented the Rosalie Bay Resort in Guadeloupe.

“The whole concept of Rosalie Bay Resort is to offer the experience of a healthy lifestyle, which is in cooperated into the quality accommodation enjoyed by all our guests, be they locals or international visitors.   The opportunity to enjoy all that Dominica has to offer in a completely relaxing atmosphere, coupled with this healthy lifestyle, we hope will lead to having a few more Ma Pampo’s,” she said, referring a Dominican woman who was 128 years old at the time of her death.

Aaron also pointed out that the Hotel which is the only one on the island under the new Green Globe Scheme and certified as a Green Globe Resort, recently won the accommodation of the year award in Dominica for 201/2012 as well as certificate of Excellence 2012 from Trip Advisor.

Also represented at the promotion were, Sunset Bay Club, Anchorage Hotel,  Seaworld Guest House and La Flamboyante Hotel.

a serious pool must be done about the reason guadeloupeens dont come more often in the nature Island. It’ll maybe show out the exorbitant prices for acomodation (compare to the other islands of the caribean as Saint Domingue), the unsuitable schedules of sea transports, the exorbitant prices of air transport and the bad quality of the welcoming on Dominica ferry port where immigration officers frigth people more than they make them feel confortable when they arrive for the first time in Dca. We are alaways afraid of being thrown to prison if the disembarkation form is not properly filled. More kindness and benévolence for tourist is needded at that fisrt contact with DOMINICA; For my part I am travelling for years to Dca and I know that for true DCA is a very warm and welcoming country and this difficulties can not stop people coming to Dominica. When Frenchies come to DCA it’s to appreciate local foods and not to eat macaroni and cheese or potatoes or drumstick…so the saturday OLE FOOD of Fort Young is a must and that is this kind of event to develop. We enjoy Melvina’s, we enjoy Kiman’s /fishpot, we enjoy SCREWS, TIA, TI COIN GLO CHO, and the atmosphere of a busy day in town. Please, Guest House and Private appartment or hotels could do an effort to keep their rates at the level of life in DOMINICA, over all when they pay salaries at this level (800 EC an average salary).
