Gov’t to embark on agricultural census

The ground work has been completed for the first phase of an Agricultural Census for Dominica. This comes after Government, acting on the advice of International Consultant on Agriculture Census, David Marshall, decided that the country’s census on Agriculture would be done in a phased approach.

Marshall is an International Consultant on Agricultural Census and Statistics with over 32 years’ experience in doing similar work in several parts of the region and the world.

Marshall was in Dominica for more than three weeks from February 24 to March 18 2014 to work with relevant stakeholders, among them, the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance, and in particular, the Central Statistical Office, to advance plans for the census.

During the three-week stint a successful pre-test of the Agriculture census was conducted in four areas of the country to prepare for planning and conducting the census.

The work done during the three-week consultation gives all participants involved a clearer indication of the path forward for the Agriculture census. And as a result, several adjustments have been made to the overall approach based on the recommendation of the Consultant; including a reduced questionnaire.

The specific objective of the Agricultural Census is to enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture to provide timely, accurate and useful information and services that stakeholders need to make informed decisions.

The Agricultural Census is funded by the Programme for the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) from the General Budget of the European Union.

AGROSUEDE BACKYARD GARDENING: I do hope in some way, Backyard Gardening will be include within this census. It plays an significant part of the Agricultural sector, especially if it’s young people doing the backyard Gardening. This will give the Ministry an idea of how involved the youth in within this sector.

Can someone in the Dominica government define the term Agricultural Census to me because I have no understand of that term, nevertheless,I know the meaning of the word “census” which simply imply a count of the population, a property evaluation conducted first in Rome in ancient time.

It is a periodic governmental enumeration of the population; census, has everything to do with population count, I do not know how a government manage to associate that with agriculture, are paying someone to go and count the number of farms in existence in Dominica?

Could this be another scheme providing employment for another foreigner, from the employer, or some employee of the government who is going to inherit a kickback from the proceeds? If what we read defy’s normal commonsense, we have to become spectacle, and draw our own conclusion.

In this case, I suggest there is no need for the counting and evaluation of any dead banana plantation, or a vegetable garden in our country, all of that to me are bogus agendas from which persons of interest benefits from; most likely under the table, and from the brown paper bag!

I have never heard of an Agricultural Census in all my born day!

Well Lang Mama did her/his own assessment and forensic investigation on the state of agriculture in Dominica .The bullet that was used to decapitate miss agriculture in Dominica was specifically designed by special interest people who simply wanted to push their own selfish agenda to include importation of basic agricultural products that we never had to import prior to the VAT (VAGABOND AND THIEVES) administration. Once agriculture was shot and wounded what did we see KFC, PIZZA this and That, Jamaican Patties, Sub way, imported fruit juices etc. guess what obesity is becoming rampant and people are becoming sick while those special interest people are laughing.
Who loaded the gun and fired the shot ?An avyege young boy whose sole intension was to become wealthy doh matter who or what he tramples on. So with the dollar a year ministrial portofollio facilitators and the chant that agriculture is a has been industry shoot him shoot him, good , loving ,faithful agriculture was deliberately shot so that poverty and dependency would prevail.
Now these MF. Hypocrites are putting out crocodile tears and pretending like they care about agriculture who have been suffering with embedded bullet for 15 year.
