Plans are in place for a National Policy on Youth in Agriculture for Dominica, Director of Agriculture Ricky Brumant has said.

Brumant was addressing the official launching ceremony of the Young Farmers Group in Penville on Saturday.

According to him, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) is assisting the island with that policy.

Brumant also highlighted a number of challenges a number of young farmers face with the issue of access to credit, access to land and access to continued jobs, to name a few.

“These had been the areas that we had been trying to concentrate on with support from IICA because of those challenges that these young people are faced, we have discussed with IICA to bring to the table the discussion on National Policy for Youth in Agriculture,” Brumant stated. “They highlighted that as a challenge as well, they believed that their voices were not heard and their voices were not felt, and so we have started with IICA to look towards developing a National Youth Policy in Agriculture.”

Furthermore Brumant noted that the Ministry of Agriculture is pursuing very strategic crops and livestock interventions that the Penville Young Farmers Group can participate in.

“We have bananas and plantains for sure, coffee, cocoa, we have pork and poultry aligned with the National Abattoir in the Layou area and so the group, collectively or individually, can access the benefits from these interventions,” he explained.

Ricky boy be careful you and Skerrit don’t get fooled by these farmers and go and take our tax payers money to help fund their little thing project you know. These days young farmers are only interested in fast money and getting government money to grow their little thing is their farms might not be a good idea. remember that little thing is usually associated with unlicensed fire arm and ammunition ok. By the way, we do not want these young farmers to take the proceeds of their farm to build more villas, especially in this area since bobbles already told us he owns one in Savan Pie, which is just a stone throw away from penville.

So after all those years of DLP Gov’t in office, is only now one is hearing of discussions on a National Policy on youth in agriculture?

Impossible. Wasn’t there any policy in use before? Voila !! It is so true that Skerritt’s DLP Gov’t doesn’t care two hoots about food Security, agriculture, youth employment. Their main emphasis is selling passports. Foreign offices, local offices, individuals, companies set up to sell our passports. Millions are being collected. A few making millions. Secret deals taking place. Dominicans in the dark

Agriculture is on the back-burner for those “in power.” The standard of living of the rural folks has declined immensely. Poverty is growing, especially in the rural communities.

The country has not done much to control Black Sigatoka, but DLP gov’t brought in 20,000 banana plants that are not resistant to that dreadful Black Sigatoka, and expect good results, top production. Madness.
    The boats are coming?

Mr. thinking is all young men in Dominica that stupid like those supposed young farmer fools from Penville that pull up in picture grinning their teeth with Skeritt? Every time somebody say it doe have work people like to tell them to go plant fig. It looking we’ll have a whole nation of one profession farmers. But what is all them pictures with RED backgrounds about na? The politics doesn’t stop? They always feeling the need to represent? I starting to get fed up with them colorful pictures there. Everything a laborite involved in needs to have their colors affiliated with it? An uncompleted Moroccan hotel that looking like a giant fowl cage have a RED roof that making me want to vomit. A phantom Chinese hospital on paper already have a RED roof. If his Skeritt pull up to grin for the camera he making sure he at least have a RED tie on him. I don’t know why he doesn’t just dye the whole country in RED. Develop your own local currency too and call it the RED dollar. Nonsense!!!

They need to get farmers who actually make money on farms run agriculture in Dominica. I would like to ask Ricky how much income he has made in agriculture in his youthfulness.

Ricky stop being a singing stooge. Every time you all open your mouths is plans, policies, things in pipeline, evaluations that never seem to materialize. This government fails to understand that plans and policies are just written words- if they even write them- that does us no good if not properly implemented.

STOP the nonsense and tell us how you are going to implement and all communities that will immediately benefit. Where does the feeder roads come in sir? We already have all that in places like Salisbury but can’t bring them to market due to poor farm access roads. The same National Abattoirs can only produce half-cleaned and very TENDER Chicken ala Johnson Drigo your agriculture minister. In other words the ring doh good. What plans do you have for waste management at the same Abattoir before you start producing Very TENDER pigs for consumption?

All man doh serious yet garson.
    Always Assertive!
