The All Saints University School of Medicine (ASUSM) can now boast that it is the only accredited Medical University on Island.
On Saturday June 1st during the universities 37th White Coat ceremony, Professor Dr. Basil Fadipe commented that the school is now accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine (ACCM).
“This stands as good news to our school because this is a journey we have embarked upon over 12 years but now that we have come to realize that finally our school has received accreditation,” Dr. Fadipe stated.
He added, “It means so much to our school in the sense that, the progress of our school will now become rapid; our students will become better for it and those who would have wanted to apply to our school to study but because of the non accreditation status are hesitant, now can confidently apply to All Saints. The accreditation has come at a good time and faculty, students and staff are very happy that the ACCM has accredited us.”
When asked about the fact that the departure of Ross University means that the university is the only accredited medical school on island he remarked. “ We are happy at the fact that now we can say that ASUSM is the ONLY accredited university in Dominica..the support of government and people of Dominica as well as students and staff has made this journey a positive one”
He urged prospective students from across the world to apply to ASUSM Dominica and revealed that the school has plans to grow and train doctors and contribute to healthcare in the Caribbean.
Dr Fadipe said that the university is expecting the Dominica Medical Board to bestow accreditation status to them in the near future.
Good grief! I’d leave the doctor’s office.
Congrats to All Saints University School of Medicine. Many Canadian and American students will apply. Congratulations!
Dominica have a Medical Board?
Congratulations to you Dr Fadipe and other members of your team .It’s a great feat
It’s interesting that they went with ACCM and not with CAAM-HP (the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions that was set up by Caricom for this purpose).
In my opinion that’s the best option . Do you know that someone with a degree from a any of the UWI coming to America, and presenting their degree in hope of finding a job is simply laughed at!
In America such degrees are not recognized; hence such persons have to sometimes go to certain place such as Kapland and get prepped to take certain exam; if they pass then they still have to take the FSE before anybody can even legally talk to them about employment, both in the medical and legal profession.
Not: to be accredited by a Caribbean Association, is the same as having no accreditation at all!
“The Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), Ireland has accredited Doctor of Medicine…”
Anybody with commonsense in the more developed world would consider a student graduating from a school accredited by an institution in Ireland than something in the Caribbean.
Mind you Steve, in the 40″s and 1950’s all black doctors in the Caribbean trained in Ireland.
Both ACCM and CAAM-HP have equal recognition internationally and from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
Maybe they should have asked New World University(https://newworld.ac/) about the process for obtaining accreditation
Congrats to the ASUSM.
If the Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine (ACCM) https://www.accredmed.org/ is the Accrediting Body for Dominica, why is the Dominica Medical Board expected to bestow accreditation status to All Saints University School of Medicine (ASUSM) in the near future? Asking for a friend.
For All Saints to be operational in Dominica it is required to have approval from the Dominica Medical Board. All Saints has received ACCM accreditation because the Dominica Medical board provided it with the guidance, technical support ,and supervision to make that possible.
I wonder what guidance and technical support they could possibly provide?! Have a look at the board members!! Are we clear now?
