An Open Letter to My Friends in the Dominica Civil Service

Gabriel Christian

I make this call to those in the public and police service who have have called me to support our democracy . They are afraid to speak out for fear of victimization. Others have parroted the same old arguments  about “this passport scandal” is “beff” and “Our diplomats were good before we found out they were bad” or “this is UWP or party politics propaganda and innuendo”. I have penned this letter appealing to our people at the 11th hour.

My Dear Friends in the Police Service and Public Service – Act Now to Save the Homeland!

I greet all of you, some whom I taught at the Dominica Grammar School, in the spirit of national service and patriotic duty.

Many of you have called in the past few days to support the call for a Commission of Inquiry. Those calls have now been transformed into calls for the resignation of the Government after the arrest of Dominica’s ambassador and diplomat Monfared this week.

– The lame excuse that due diligence was done or his passport cancelled some time in the past cannot be believed in light of the repeated instances of rogues, mobsters and criminal being arrested with Dominica’s precious diplomatic passports. Our country is now the laughing stock of the Caricom community and among the diplomatic corps in Washington DC where I do business daily and have worked hard to promote the best of Dominica for almost a lifetime.

For those of you who still  doubt that Dominica is now in the most major governmental crisis in confidence since 1979,  I have one question for you: Do you agree that Roosevelt Skerrit would be compelled to resign if he were President of the US, Prime Minister of the England or Prime Minister of Canada after having been repeatedly found appointing rogues, mobsters, criminals as diplomats and ambassadors?

I await your answer dear friends.

My view?

It is because of the lowering of standards and irresponsibility of our people our Government does what it wants, when it wants, how it wants and persons who are ignorant, by choice or dint of circumstance refuse to call a spade a spade. This Government is not accountable, transparent or democratic in how it rules. It has abandoned rule of law.

This is not about UWP, Labour, Freedom or silly politics.  I have no interest in party politics. We must all put Dominica first.

This is not about “beff, rumor, innuendo, idle chatter or negativity. The mobsters appointed as diplomats are not matters of opinion, or “alternate facts” but the truth.

This is a matter that affects the integrity, character and duty to responsibility of every Caribbean nation, member of the Organization of American States or United Nations. Nations cannot and must never be allowed to use diplomatic positions as cover for mob and other criminal activity such as money laundering.

You know that I have promoted the best of Dominica always and relentlessly. And this government has wounded reasonable thinking  Dominicans and broken the hearts of every dignified, self respecting and intelligent Dominican who has eyes to see, ears to hear, and a brain that is not clouded by blind allegiance to Roosevelt Skerrit.

I once supported Roosevelt Skerrit until I discovered him to be a compulsive and shameless liar who was selling the country to his mobster friends while with a smile fooling the masses.

This is about law and order, and whether we can make any progress as a people under a lawless and corrupt regime which has exposed itself to the whole world by its lawless conduct and it’s association to mobsters. CBS 60 Minutes is not involved in Dominica party politics, negativity or “beff.” They followed a story and reported it. And every day more bandits appointed by the Government of Dominica are revealed. Yesterday it was the Iranian bandit who stole 2.9 billion from his country as our ambassador to God knows where. Who shall it be tomorrow

Please my dear friends open your eyes and save our country from this rot. Do it for yourself, do it for your family, do it for our better future. Don’t say later  you did not know. Other nations will not have sympathy for us if this is how we are running our affairs or allow for our affairs to be run. We shall suffer for being accomplices to crime. Many a nation has fallen where their people were silent to their duty.

The current leadership running Dominica now would be unacceptable in any civilised and democratic country. And that is why the government must  resign and be replaced by a transitional government made up of honest men and women to investigate these matters, prosecute the criminals and prepare for new elections. Anything short of that is to continue to sell out our beloved homeland to which many of us have dedicated our entire lives for its betterment. Have we no shame anymore Dominicans?

Police officers and public servants of Dominica, do not complicit in the downfall of your country. Be patriotic and act to save your country now!

I trust you open your eyes and stand fast to honest duty in the cause of the land we love.

God bless you always.

To beat the Dominical Labour Party you have to show the people that you have the financial Resources to maintain the Government Housing loans board 5% affordable loans for civil servants, the CBI program ,that their salaries will be paid on time, social programs will continue etc…. Dominicans don’t care about all the allegations of lawlessness and lack of transparency and integrity in public office. Majority of Dominicans only care about the government’s ability to attract investment and access to money. What is the Opposition’s plan to generate revenue? Are they associated with any multi million dollar organizations or wealthy individuals willing to spend money in Dominica? Does the opposition have strong relations with any of the leaders of the world’s super powers? THEY DOH HAVE MONEY AND DOMINICANS OBSERVED THAT. Their previous campaign also showed signs of being poorly financed. Give those supporters back their $1200 all you collect from them in lagoon. Come better dan…

Gabriel, why are you on a crusade to cause an uprising in the Land? Your outbursts are juvenile. Our beloved leader was democratically elected and so he will remain at the helm until the people decide otherwise by the ballot. Many of us are free mentally, we do not live our lives in fear of the so called developed Countries. We are an Independent Nation, and so we the people are in charge of our own affairs, not your country of residence. You will not dictate to us who govern our Land, we have given the PM the mandate, and yes, we will protect our democracy, that is, to see to it that the PM remains at the helm until another election result states otherwise. Please tread carefully! You are fighting a losing battle! We stand in solidarity with our PM

I maintain my unwavering support for the PM.

I admire your loyalty to Dr. Skerrit, but unless you are on the bung side of his wealth, it is wasted.

Dr. Skerrit has undoubtedly and beyond any reasonable doubt severely damaged Dominica both in terms of its income as well as its standing as a country.

He has one door open to him now and it is marked ‘exit’.

He cannot survive this in office.

I couldnt agree with you more. The majority of those left here in dominica use ridicule and ignorance to support the lack or morale and class and dignity shown my many here today, and that is even before polits comes into play. They are quick to defend wrong by trying to throw shade/maypwe on you yourself, like you are noone to speak. Noone is perfect, however injustice must be called out, regardless or party or affiliation.

I have one word for Gabu, (TRUMP) When the Donald get bored with persecuting Muslims in USA he will turn his attention to the Blacks. For his own sake I hope Gabu still have his Dominican passport in hand to try and make it back to the Homeland that he and Linton trying their best to destroy.

Stop looking at the individual who is alerting you of the issue existing in your country and focus on the issues affecting your fellowmen in your country.. Take of the blinders and focus on the issues that are being brought to light.

      1. Are these real issues in my country?
      2. Is my island home at risk as they claim?
      3. What can we/I do?
      4. Are my people suffering based on these issues that are being brought to light?
      5. Again, what can we/I do?
      6. Is My Prime Minister/head of state focused on the People of Dominica?
      7. Are the Ministers in Government focused on the needs of the people of Dominica
      8. Are the majority of the eligible voting populace aware and understand what they are voting for and the ramifications of their vote of certain individuals into office?
      9. Have you seen the change that you envisioned since voting?
      10. AGAIN. WHAT CAN I/WE DO?

I am not sure what Gabo is on about for all of us who grew up around the guy always knew him as some looking for a cause. So the companies the Government have hired have made a couple mistakes in some of the people that have purchased passports. America appointed a man with around 3000 law suites against him to become President. Ask for more rigorous checks to be done on people applying for these passports. You sit on your perch in the US and ask locals to rise against there Government. It\’s like the bully asks me to steal a sweet from the shop. Why don\’t you quit what you are doing in the US and come to Dominica and start this protest so we can think about following.

God moves in a mysterious way
    His wonders to perform:
He plants His footsteps in the sea,
    And rides upon the storm.

    Deep in unfathomable mines
    Of never-failing skill,
He treasures up His bright designs,
    And works His sovereign will.

    Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
    In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
    But trust Him for His grace;
    Behind a frowning providence
    He hides a smiling face.

    His purposes will ripen fast,
    Unfolding every hour:
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,
    And scan His work in vain;
    God is His own Interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

Everything is in the hands of GOD, Dominicans he is seeing your tears and hearing your cries for help, GOD IS HIS OWN INTERPRETER AND HE WILL REVEAL ALL.

You have nerve eh boy. Why didn’t UWP step down when they sold so many passports to so many crooks during their time in government? Why do we as Dominicans have to get visas to go to Canada now? When you can honestly answer those question maybe then we can start considering taking UWP serious. Until then go to hell.

I will never understand how Dominicans who live in the Diaspora criticize the Government. Be the change you want to see. Creating a life, building another man’s country instead of your own. You want a change in government, devote your time and your life to the people, educate them, protect them, build them up. Many of us are not that selfless.. we just sit there and hope the people in the kitchen feeling the heat will do what we want to see for Dominica. Be the change you want to see.

    January 28, 2017

Mr. Christian, are you advocating for a coup? I believe that we went down that route in the 1980’s with dire consequences. To appeal directly to the security services of this country to remove a duly elected government shows a lack of good judgement on your part sir. In some corners of the world this may be construed as treason.

You may look with much concern at the issues surrounding the CBI program, and rightly so. A call for transparency – I support. However, we all need to respect the democratic institutions of this country. Sir, please respect your birthplace. Advocate instead using the electoral process to effect the change you wish to see.

Maybe sir, just maybe, we may be honored to see you leave the comfort and the draw of the United States and present yourself as an alternative to the current leadership on order (both government and opposition) in our country.

    Thank you.

Mr. Christian I personally think its good challenge you impose on the Dominica Civil Service to bring out to light of any wrong doing by this government. There are other leaks stating that Monfared lived in Dominica from Jan to Sept 2016 while the man hunt was on to bring him to justice and Dominica refused to corporate with Iran on his where about. So I am for the challenge. What is more interesting is that you are calling on the government of Dominica to resign because they are selling the Dominica passport to Mobsters and convicted criminals. My question is, if Monfared has a Dominica passport and he went back to Iran and got involved in a$400m money/oil scandal, why should the Dominica Government resign? Sir do all respect. You are an American citizen? I am asking tis question because I have not read anywhere you as American citizen called for George Bush to resign for falsifying information and lying to the American people for invading IRAC for WMD killing over half a million.

      January 28, 2017

Let me continue. Mr. Christian I still have not read where you called on the Bush Administration to resign because its Vice President Dick Cheney who was the master mind behind the IRAC invasion destroying the country’s oil infrastructure and replacing it with CHEVRON/ EXXON/ SHELL and TEXACO run BY Halliburton. Credit to you for speaking out on the unjust shooting of Blacks in America recently. But why didn’t you called on President Obama to resign when he reopened diplomatic relations with a Criminal named Fidel Castro? You are an American Lawyer Right?. If you want to help Dominica Find a LEGIT CASE. (YOUR WORDS:::: I once supported Skerrit until I discovered him to be a compulsive and shameless liar). well I think its than that Mr Christian. This isn’t a perfect world and we are all imperfect, to chastise an entire government because an X diplomat was accused (not convicted) of wrong doing… seems like you want to repaint the entire house just to fill a hole after you removed a picture frame that doesn’t belong there.

WE THE DECENT LAW ABIDING PEOPLE OF DOMINICA CANNOT AT THE SAME TIME CONDONE STATEMENTS AND ACTIONS WHICH SEEK TO COMPROMISE NATIONAL SECURITY BY THIS Government and others associated with their devious means and schemes. IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT we, the people of Dominica WISH TO CALL ON ALL DOMINICANS TO DISASSOCIATE THEMSELVES from this minister and the corrupt Skerrit Labour government WITH ALL STATEMENT OR ACTIONS WHICH MAY APPEAR TO PUT STATE SECURITY AT RISK. ,,…and likely to affect the democratic rights of all Dominicans to rightly question and condemn any illegal acts of passports etc.
OVER THE PAST YEARS, THIS GOVERNMENT HAS WORKED VERY HARD TO ENSURE THAT LAW AND
ORDER has been violated, abused, INSULTED and twisted ON OUR Beautiful DOMINICA.

Here’s an idea, Supremo. This is not going to blow away. Invite opposition voices into you cabinet. Have mature discussion on the way forward. That might blunt threats of public disorder. Having Blackmore threaten protestors does not help the situation.

The diplomatic passport mess is what started this crisis. You’ve 17 years of good time so history is not on your side. Humble yourself a little because it’s not looking good for you right now. Display of force is a terrible idea. Play it cool and it might we can resolve this matter in win-win…for all of us

You know when I was a kid in Dominica an illiterate made a comment to me “smooth waters runs deep.” in reality that is not simply a metaphor; it is reality.

Whereas one have to be careful in order to protect their jobs, what happens on election day there is no excuse; the alternative to rid one self from fear and the terror of Skerrit is to vent the frustration in the poling booth, and vote against Skerrit, the are not doing that.

More than 80% the population is unemployed, the kick and rise hell about it, they talk about it, but as soon as election comes and free rum and food start to share, they cant wait to vote Skerrit, so these people are responsible for their own dilemma!

In light of the current debate and Gabriel’s assertion in the above quotation, he must identify which country has treated him or any other citizen with less courtesy than a citizen of any other nation. Our apply and do get US visas. We can still travel to the European Union 9SChengen) countries visa free. We still have visa free access to Cuba, China, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador etc. Again, it is assumptions, false accusations, allegations and mischief making and yes, “alternative facts”. The mobsters appointed as diplomats are not matters of opinion, or “alternate facts” but the truth.”…… another lie Gabu, it is all about beff and rumours. So far you all have failed to produce absolutely no evidence that Skeritt and his cabal received money for Diplomatic passports, so you all are now using the mobster story.

On who’s behalf are you calling on the civil service to act? Who will lead the country after the government is forced out? Will you lead this country from Maryland as an absentee Lord? What are you going to do with the labor supporters who are in the majority, are you going to jail them at the cabrits? Get real bro!! If Dominica is a laughing stock is because of people like you, who continue to dwell on the negative.

It is heartening to know that you support the Skerrit Government and now you have seen the light and you are ready like Athie Martin and others to correct the wrong. The past is the past and II support you now. You will realize where people have been made to remain ignorant and poor it will be difficult and your influence now will be very important. Blocking those from the Diaspora. You have our backing and we are ready for the fight.

All aboard Gabo, all aboard! That inept, corrupt, incompetent cabal has to go and its action time. Enough is enough! Bala, Jacko, Rosie and Pierro must be looking down on us with tears in their eyes and very heavy hearts. DLP has failed us, the region and world by extension.

Like you sir, I was a stalwart DLP supporter in the days of Pierro, Roosie and the early days of Skerrit. Oh how it hurts! Fortunately it did not take me too long to see what was happening and I am proud to say I pulled away. Shame, shame, shame on the DLP. DLP has to GO!

Assertive and prepared to be aggressive for the love of country!

    Gabriel,

I suppose its easy to brush aside the fact of the due diligence performed in 2014 and report from Bishops dated July 2014, and the fact of the cancelled passport. But when exactly did you discover Skerrit was a shameless liar? Before or after

    1. You asked for exclusivity for geothermal exploration?

    2. You asked, applied and or got concessions fore the construction of green houses, the assembling of radios and televisions?

3 You described him as ” Brother” in 2016 when you asked for concessions for your chocolate enterprise?

    4. You asked him to confer diplomatic status and passports on your friends and clients between 2004 and 2011?

    Please tell us exactly when.

    Regards

Well said Gabriel, well said. Those who support Skerrit and his schemes appears to be expecting things from him as Prime Minister, but they have however compromised their decency and goodness to go this low and still attempt to justify in 2017 to us the people of Dominica to follow the corrupt, devious practices of Skerrit for a few pieces of silver. Integrity no longer means anything, so from building hotels to false promises in agriculture and pit latrine as assets to support bad government and deviancy in politics What a shame that our government is corrupt, big time. Prove me wrong. \But before you that recall the Bin Bobol and fertilizer Bobol which they also denied ever happened with an infamous senior counsel everyday on radio saying the process wet well, whereas it was a very clever thievery scheme plotted on the poor resources abs people of Dominica.

Wish I had the writing skills that you are endowed with..I am sure that it came by dint of hard work..Well my first step after the arrest of Monfaredwas to peak to a brother of mine,a
officer of the CDPF for 34years…The conversation was about his duty to serve Dominica,as opposed to his duty to facilitate an evil, wicked dangerous gang of people who are destroying Dominica.. We spoke for about one hour, and I am certain that he understood me..I did this because some DLP idealogues misconstrue protest, demonstrations, etc with VIOLENCE.Some police officers do the same, some by ignorance, some because they are purchased by the wicked gang posing as a government.MY WHISTLE is ready,my cardboard box and marker is ready for my placrd..I am prepared to demonstrate against this evil DLP GANG,to show them that I love my counrtry.
