Anette-Thomas Sanford talking to the media after the final count on Tuesday

Annette Thomas Sanford who lost the Kalinago Chief election by three votes has promised to work with the incoming Chief for the development of the Kalinago Territory.

“I want to congratulate the incoming Chief. I think we all did a great job and I am prepared to work with him in whatever capacity to develop the Kalinago Territory,” she stated.

Thomas-Sanford said the journey has been very exciting; she has learned a lot, interacted with the people and learned to connect with them.

“I want to congratulate all the candidates who have taken part in this Chief elections and I must say we have put our all into it and we have really given our best,” she said.

Thomas- Sanford thanked her campaign team for what she described as a fantastic campaign, a clean campaign which she thinks has motivated and inspired a lot of people to realize that there is a lot more they can do in the Kalinago Territory, if they work together. She also thanked her family for standing next to her and for being her “solid rock.”

“Most of all I want to thank all those who came out to vote, I think you placed your confidence in me and you believe that I could have taken the Kalinago Territory forward and so thank you so much everyone and I look forward in working with you,” Thomas-Sanford said.

According to the election results, Thomas-Sanford received 406 votes. However she points out that were it not for her 9 rejected ballots, she would have amassed a total of 415 votes while Lorenzo Sandford would have gotten a total of 412 votes if 3 of his ballots had not been rejected.

“I think the intention of the people was to have me as Kalinago Chief. If the ballots were not rejected I would have  won,” Thomas-Sanford maintains.

About the ballots being rejected. Before every election there should be an education campaign on tv, newspapers, social media, to demonstrate how to use the ballot. I am sure those who spoilt the ballots were not aware they were doing it wrong. To whom it may concern, take note.

I have no dog in this fight do I sit on the fence. There was no corruption before, during nor after the elections. Unity of purpose should be your drive, motto and focus. Working together you can accomplish all that you yearn for. The elections have past, look to beatify the future of your people.

Anette, I am very proud of your stance. You did your best but in an election, there must be a winner. Your willingness to support him is commendable, it shows your good character. After all, the important thing to to provide the best leadership for your people. Two of you can achieve more, together. You are a natural leader. Don’t be afraid to lead beyond the Kalinago territory, you are Kalinago and you are Dominican. I want to see you in Dominica’s government sometime soon.

Mrs. Sanford you should have just said thank you and be on your way, I would have thought more of you.

Your last word left a bitter taste in my mouth. Don’t be a sore loser.

I agree. Best she had said “if the voters had marked their ballots properly”
